Well halfway through Dry January and, to be honest, I have found it not as difficult as I thought it would be. It was like when I, finally, decided that I was going to stop smoking and that I would not have any more then I stopped. I have decided not to drink at all in January so, all I have to do, is not drink any. Simple logic, for me anyway, don't smoke, don't put one in you mouth, don't drink, don't put one to your mouth
The problem I have is that I don't seem to have a pause button and if I decide I am having a drink then I will have 1,2, up to 12 cans a day/night and this will be every day I am off. As I work 6 on, 4 off then the 3/4 days off then I will drink most days. I used to limit it before the day I was back to work as I could get selected for Random drink/drugs test and lose my job !. I have been Lucky so far to be honest and I realise I have to cut down my alcohol intake
Doing Dry January has made me see that you do not have to drink to enjoy the day off and, I have found, that I am doing more than I have ever done in the past with my day and feeling better for it. This weekend will be a bit of a test as
1. I am off until Tuesday
2. Have the house to myself
3 Footie on TV tomorrow Liverpool v Man Utd
4. Don't have to use my car
Normally I would have started drinking by now and would carry on until bedtime but I have brought myself some Vimto (other brands are available for purchase) and fully intend to stay sober.
My plan will be after January to drastically cut down my intake and will target both AF and low intake days.
Dry January is not going to make me sober for ever but it has definately made me see that my intake was too high and I will reduce it to very sensible levels in the future0 -
Good thinking yellowmonkey:T. So we'll be seeing lots of you in February and the rest of the year.0
