Back firmly on the wagon, that's the trouble with alcohol it makes me angry and resentful and I then feel so guilty. but I now have 12 A/F days this month so I am determined no more booze this month.0

I had one night with a drink on Tuesday. Strange one actually, out with friends for dinner, no drinks as I was driving. Bought wine and had some when we got home. Not too sure why, think I was half feeling I was missing out, and half wondering what it would be like/how I would react. This is the longest I've been without alcohol for years.
Anyway, that was just one night, back on the wagon with none last night, so 11/30 for me thanks Shaggy.0 -

not only drank but started a row with OH about how unfair it was I had had cancer. I feel truly truly awful today.
Goodness that's easy to do. (((Hugs))) for you.
(((Hugs))) for you too, Piggles. Grey is fine for a funeral, or purple. People don't dress in black as much any more unless it's a family that is very formal. Some years ago when an elderly friend died the family very specifically asked that no one wore black.
Oooooh, Smiley, crisps. That's given me the munchies.
14/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -

I used to do that. Spend the evening AF for whatever reason and then come home and play catch up.:o Now I just make straight for the kitchen and put the kettle on. It saves me having the Shall I?/Shan't I? conversation with myself.0 -
10/25 AFDs for today0

Piggles, I am sorry to hear about the way your mum behaves. She sounds a bit toxic really. there's been a lot of research showing how profoundly our experiences whilst young impact all sorts of adult behaviour and mental health, but at least you are able to make use of counselling to help you deal with those issues.Piggles, your mother sounds like a narcissist - everything has to revolve around them. They are very destructive to others' wellbeing. You are right to remove yourself from the situation.
Thanks bothYes I think she is a narcissist. Times when I've needed some support there's none there and I get manipulated. I always wondered why she appeared to be talking to me like I was someone completely different. She never actually got to know me. It was really confusing as a kid and a lot of offspring are in their mid 40s when they realise what was going on. I'm very pleased I know now and it all makes sense. I'll not get involved with her now and need to look after myself.

Thanks Honey BearI had an update that we can wear more or less what we like so you're right. That's good, although I've bought the jumper but can still use it because I like it.
I had another AFD last night because I don't want to drink every other day and like to have at least 2 days in between any alcohol now. That's a good improvement. Tonight I'm not sure though, today was on edge to do with the move. I can start packing though, and write my lists of things to do. But right now I want to sit and watch some telly and not think too much about things.
9/18 AFD please shaggy0 -
13/31 for me today. Off for the weekend tomorrow evening and I am going to do my best to remain AF. It will be a very social weekend with quite a few friends but maybe some of them are also not drinking.Trying to keep in budget.

I can't remember when I last looked at this thread, it must be years because I haven't had any AF days to report in all that time. I'd resigned myself to the fact that I would live with being miserable, have daily sore heads, feel tired and washed out and unable to sleep properly for the rest of my life.
However, unexpectedly on 31st December I announced to friends (and partner) that I was going to do Dry January (of course I was drunk when I said it !!!) but I really thought if I announce it publicly then I would have to stick to it, how naïve !!! It wasn't long before I knew, with all the half empty bottles lying around from Christmas & New Year, that it was going to be too much of a temptation so I continued drinking even though I felt hellish.
On the evening of Sunday 10th January I realised that there was no more excuses. Nothing left to drink in the house, do I go out for more to start again or DO SOMETHING WITH MY LIFE!!!!
It's been really hard work but I've not had a drink since then. The temptation has been enormous every night around 6.30pm but I'm managing to stay dry. Watching the Channel 5 documentary last night really got me worried and I could certainly relate to the lady who admitted that her drinking was sometimes more important than her child's happiness.
Anyway, I'll not go on any longer, just wanted to say I'm so glad you guys are still here and, Shaggy, I am DELIGHTED to report 5 AF days so far !!!!0 -
14/31 AFDs tonight.
Maggie, welcome back to this thread, which is a huge support. I watched the C5 documentary too, scary stuff, but so brave of the participants. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0
