12/31 AFDs today, despite there being red and white wine on offer at a nice lunch today. I resisted and had lime n soda - an easy choice as I was driving.
Shaggy, a wait and see approach is what I've advocated; mum seems to think she'll go ahead. The consultant said he'd invite her (us) back in a month's time to give a decision, and I know I can delay that short-term just by phoning when the appointment arrives and saying "sorry can't make it", then once thereafter with same reason. My plan is to email my brothers. My eldest brother would then bluntly talk to mum. He's had a skin graft, so will be able to give first hand views. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
AFD today so 9/27. Feeling good.0

Well done on the biscuit scoffing, Dizzy.
Gien, I would really struggle to do half the amount of stuff I can do now with my lovely spare time and early nights! Good thing too, because OH and I are planning on going to Porto for a week to meet a friend's new baby, and part of that trip will include wine tastings and port tastings - for OH. A couple of years that would have been me, slurping up as much as I could get my hands on, too. I will admit to being a bit tempted by the idea of 'just on holiday' before commonsense kicked in.
13/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
Really struggling tonight as DH has opened the sloe gin my friend gave us. I nearly caved. Very nearly...but I had four chocolate digestive biscuits instead, and that seemed to work  Diet? What diet?
12/31 please Shaggy x
Dizzy Imp, I love sloe gin so I feel your pain! But well done you for resisting :T:T:T0 -
I'm eating lunch today with a friend but she doesn't drink, which should make life a whole lot easier.0

Hi all
Sorry for the non-contributiin, I've been off dealing with a few things.
I've done ok on the AFD front. The protracted news has now become sad news so I have a funeral to go to. I don't have anything black, so I'm hoping dark grey will be ok? I won't be able to get to the shops beforehand and can't tell online if things will fit.
Unrelated to the above, I've also found out something to do with my upbringing and how badly it's affected my mental health. It makes for unpleasant reading really, and having a mother who would appear to have a type of personality disorder that fits a typical pattern explains why I can't deal with her.
She treats me as if I have no opinions or likes (unless she can claim them as her own), never asks how I am, never visited me when I've been in hospital but phoned me all the time my dad was in and then dropped me like a stone when he was a bit better. She's the only source of family news to make the point she's the centre of everything and the rest of us are divided from eachother. Still, I don't live anywhere near her so don't have to see her, and I'm dealing with it through temporaray counselling although I need long term something or other. It also explains why I turned to drink at such a young age.
I did drink a couple of times with all this going on, but in between those odd occasions I've had AFDs.
So I'm on 8/18 AFD please shaggy
gien, thanks for your reply post, I'm glad you're looking forward to coming back to the uk. Hope the preparations are going ok over there. Yes I'm moving as well, though not sure where. They're redeveloping our close here so my house will be no more. There are things in place to make sure we can all move but I'm not sure what yet.0 -
Good to hear from you piggles. I always worry when people go AWOL in case they're off the wagon and don't want to say but you seem to be doing fine. You've a lot to deal with obviously but you're getting through. Well done:).
AFD planned for today.
5 AFDs please Shaggy.0 -
Afternoon :hello:
1 more AFD for yesterday.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
