hi all - don't know if there will be a 2016 thread on this, but if so, may I join? ... It's just all too easy to overdo it, not just at this time of year, but in general.

I was pretty much aiming to do a full six months alcohol-free next year anyway but also need to moderate what I do drink better.

So sorry Dizzy, nothing can prepare us for the pain of a loved-one's death. Hugs xx
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

And I had no alcohol at all :) I've slept ok but wake early with a busy brain so am tired. My dreams have been weird and horrible, and I've woken in cold sweats in the middle of the night. Maybe that's normal for giving up, and when I had three days without and then a bit to drink it was a false dawn.

It was really difficult and I really really wanted a drink christmas eve, and the day before, but my plan was to go a week without which I haven't done since I was about 14.

I don't know about the dream thing Piggles because I can't remember, but I'd imagine anyone making big changes in their lives, or having been given an unexpected diagnosis would be quite likely to have weird dreams. Well done for resisting on Christmas Eve; did you make your AF week?

Welcome CathyBird! The thread's a continuous one; anyone can join in when they get the urge to cut down or give up. Are you joining in during December by setting a target of Alcohol Free Days or Alcohol Low Days?

Sincere condolences, Dizzy. You've held everything together so well through the flood and Christmas travels. Well done on reaching your target and I hope you enjoyed raising a glass to your grandma. (((Hugs)))

28/31 please, Shaggy. Ooooh another smiley. Good-oh.

i did! 8 days AF :) and then i got drunk last night on 5 units. i don't know why really. i rebelled and evil me took over :o

i didn't really want to stop and binge like that but my tolerance is low which is a good thing. don't feel so bad today, just a bit slow and rubbish. i also don't feel like i've ruined everything, just made AF a bit harder again.

i do know now though that if i drink it's a conscious decision, not a giving in. a few months ago that would have been a habit and not so conscious perhaps.

    21/17 AFD please shaggy :)

We wouldn't dream of lecturing you dizzy and, more importantly, don't lecture yourself.

So sorry to hear the sad news. You cope with it in whatever's the best way for you but all you'll get on here is support.:A

It's hard to know what best to advise piggles. I think you've done really well recently and proved that you can drink or not drink as you choose. What saddens me is that so many of the words you use are negative so particularly pleased that you recognise you've not ruined everything just by overindulging a bit last night. Sorry if this is the wrong metaphor but I really think you should try for a 'glass half full' approach in 2016 and search out all the help you can get to think positively.

Welcome cathy. Wow!! 6 months is quite a target.

I've had a drink every day since Christmas Eve but nothing excessive at all. Christmas Day I had a drink at lunchtime and then nothing more:eek:. I'm thinking that I'll probably restart AF days next Monday but haven't made a definite decision yet.

:T to those who have had AF days over Christmas and for those who haven't I hope you've enjoyed your drinks.:)
