The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 13

Hi All - I haven't been around these parts for a few months but I'm back to join up for November. After a very hectic (and boozy) October and with December on the horizon, I really need to have a Be Good To Myself month. I'm just finding myself constantly tired at work and spending too much money on nights out.
So, I'm going for an ambitious 24 AF days in November.0 -
Distraction is an excellent technique. I find that because I go out on a Monday evening to a dance class, it's easy not to even think about drinking. That generally gets me off to a good start to the week.
Feeling a bit under the weather today after too much last night. Since my holiday I've gone back to drinking red with DH as enjoyed sharing a bottle with him when we were away. Harder to keep track when I don't have my own bottle IYSWIM. I'm sure I had more than my fair share yesterday. Need to watch that.
I agree having an AF monday does help to start the week on a good note.
I could never work out how much I had if I shared a bottle with someone. Back in the old days it was because they drank faster than me (I like to savour it plus I water it down) so I ended up with a thimblefull. Then when I started to cut down I couldn't tell how much I'd had from the bottle with someone else pouring out approximate measures into their own glass. Or worse, pouring approximate sloshes into mine
Without getting the marker pen out it's a tricky thing to deal with when sharing. I don't know what I'd do really, apart from have mine n' theirs bottlescharmed1318 wrote: »Didn't quite manage 31/31 only 30/31, due to an interview I was offered yesterday, for today, and a mystery shop I had planned, afterwards, at a particular establishment, so I had to order the real ale anyway, but after the interview I felt I deserved to drink it.
So no target reached, but considering other months, I did particularly well, I think
HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE
one day missing isn't bad at all, congrats on the interviewand a well-earned beer! I'm a fan of real ale but haven't had one lately. Now with my targets I can only have one pint, but the good news is it can be whichever beer I want, not necessarily the weakest because I'm not going to have 4 pints

Including last night I made a pitiful 4 AFDs for October in total.
I have however this month kept a count of how much I have drunk and how much it cost !!!!!!:eek::eek:
I'm in for November and going to improve this months figure so I'm going for 10 AFD's even though I'm away on a jolly for 5 days this monthAs of 24th August 2016 total money owed was
£15,708 :eek:0 -
27/25 AFDs for the month :-)0

No more AF days to report so I missed my target by 1, although most drinking days were low alcohol. I will do better next month.
We had a lovely Halloween party here which was fun, but I feel a bit slow this morning!Trying to keep in budget.

I was definitely not AF yesterday and my kitchen is littered with empties this morning, but, I am awake after getting to bed at 2am, dogs fed, cuppa made and a load in the WM and I don't have a hangover! The empty beer bottles are our friends' (who are both still snoring) and there is wine left over from the bottle DH bought me last night. Whoo hoo :j:j
Bring on November :rotfl:0 -

I don't think it matters what the motivation is for cutting down or stopping as long as you remember whatever it is that motivates you when faced with the choice to drink or not. Money-saving wasn't really a great motivator for me but what I saved during my first year AF on booze I now spend on stuff that I really, really love. I've just finished a six week Saturday morning course learning how to plaster so that I can fix the walls here when chunks fall off, and I've got a very fine collection of blue plant pots that look fabulous on the sundeck. Smiles all round, here.27/25 AFDs for the month :-)
Well done, Barny!charmed1318 wrote: »Didn't quite manage 31/31 only 30/31, due to an interview I was offered yesterday, for today, and a mystery shop I had planned, afterwards, at a particular establishment, so I had to order the real ale anyway, but after the interview I felt I deserved to drink it.

 Hi there RobotRobo! Well done on the 21 days so far - the earlier ones are the toughest if you've got a embedded habit of quaffing every night as I did. Good on you. :T:T:T
Of course it's possible to stop drinking. Lots of people have, and I did it last year and I know that my alcohol-free life is such a massive improvement on my old boozy life that I'd never want to risk it by just having one. I know it would lead to another pretty soon and then I'd be back to my old ways and I just don't want to go back to being who I was when I drank. Each person has to find out what support they need to keep them on the straight and narrow, so I hope you've got yours organised. Good luck with it.
Most people on this thread are cutting down; very few give up completely. I think I'm the only person posting every day at the moment who's knocked it on the head completely, but there are people who've used the thread in the past to stop once and for all and they generally pop back in once a year or so which is lovely.
Either way, you're very welcome.Better is good enough.0
