What do you guys drink of an evening instead of alcohol? Sometimes esp as we're coming up to the weekend I fancy something 'special' to celebrate making it to the end of a week, even better I'm not working this weekend! I have lemonade but its the same everyday. Any recommendations for something a bit different?

Diet ginger beer, although I really like the old jamican brand non diet drink, it is very high in calories, for my recent efforts I also got some low cal tonic water in too.

Today's winge is I've put 2lbs in weight on this week despite a) not drinking and b) not raiding the fridge after drinking!!
    Really don't know why?

Well done SandyPan. The weightloss thing didn't happen for me until I was six months into being totally alcohol free, but I then lost the extra stone I'd been carting around for about 10 years over about three weeks by cutting out the things I knew were the problem - basically Twinks Hobnobs and cheese.

B3ck$ B1u3 every single night so that I don't get tempted. I was never a beer drinker, more of a red wine type, and the last time I tried an AF red wine, I minded not being able to join in with everyone else with the real stuff, so I stopped looking for a substitute red wine once and for all. (The all tasted vile to me, anyway.) For celebrations and special occasions I have a few bottles of Sainsbob's sparkling AF white 'wine' stashed, but I recently managed to track down the new Ech0 F@11$ sparkling AF white 'wine' and it was very drinkable. If they're not available for any reason, I'd plump for tomato juice with a hefty dash of Worcester Sauce but I can only manage two of those per evening because it's so acid. What I can't do is stick to sugary soft drinks all night - I end up feeling very sick but the sugar overload.

    11/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

I did used to have the AF free beer if I was the DD in summer, Bavaria 0.0% is the nicest one I have found so far - but I am a beer drinker and it tastes like 'proper' beer.

I'm going to have a gander in the shops tonight, might give ginger beer a try!

This weekend I'm not even concerned about not drinking which feels nice actually. To not feel like I'm missing out which is what happened every other time I have tried to cut down.

I really dislike sweet drinks so when I'm AF I'm happy sticking with fizzy water or coffee. Plus one of my main motivations in cutting back was the empty calories so I really couldn't bring myself to have juice or anything like that.

sandypan, I found that the booze was sabotaging all my attempts at healthy eating. I came on here and got the drinking under control (kept mainly as a weekend treat) then joined Slimming World. The plan is designed to allow some treats whether it be booze, chocolate, cakes or whatever so it suits me fine. So keeping my weight where I want it (4+years now) is additional motivation to keep alcohol under control.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.
