    12/30 AFDs 152 and counting :)

That sounds as though you're planning on having a drink to celebrate being AF for six months Barny. Have you noticed any changes in your health since you stopped?

Had a really terrible day today but not had a drink and no plans to this evening, so another AF day.

    Every little helps.

Confession time... I had beer yesterday.. BUT! Only 4 and I just wanted one, I have feeling chappy and a bit down (for no reason whatsoever) and hubs came home so we went to the cinema to see Legend (great movie, even better tickets were free) and then we went to a bar and bought some beers for home.

I still deem yesterday successful as I stopped at 4 even when hubs had one more before bed, normally I have no self control and would have had about 8 so although I drank I controlled it.

Being able to control your drinking once you decide to is a massive stop forward, Gonzo. Good on you for halving your normal rates.

We went to dinner at the friends' house who gave me the bottle of AF red wine a few weeks ago. They'd got another one in specially for me which was a bit of a facer, and I'd taken some pre-chilled BBs with me so they wouldn't have to scrat around trying to find something for me to drink. I was worried I'd feel deprived again if I drank the lookie-likey red but this time I didn't and honestly, that level of kind and thoughtful hospitality knocked me out.

    13/30 please, Shaggy.

    8/20 for tonight please.
  • Just found this, I posted it back in January 2011, the last time I was trying to give up!!!
This article was in 'Look' magazine and these were the benefits of giving up alcohol. Getting ready for work this morning I definately haven't at to use as much concealer under my eyes as normal!!

2 days later - When your bodies dehydrated and full of alcohol it suspends 'non essential' things like fat burning. Now it's had chance to recover, you'll feel more energetic and your gym workouts will be more effective.
1 week later - Your concealer and foundation will be redundant! Alchohol deprives your skin of vitamins and nutrients, so after a week of booze free you'll notice clearer brighter skin.
2 weeks later - You'll see fewer lumps and bumps, as your body will be free of boozy toxins that contribute to cellulite.
3 weeks later - Alcholol hinders deep sleep, so giving up the booze means you can get better quality beauty sleep and should wake up looking like you've just had a relaxing facial.
1 month later - Thank the teetotal Gods for your trimmer waisteline - if you've cut out just four glasses of wine a week you'll be 1,000 calories better off.
6 months later - As well as skin, alcohol also dehydrates your hair, leaving it thinner and fragile. After six months your hair will be your crowning glory.

DECLARING TODAY 12/29 Thank you, being part of this forum is making a massive difference not just to my appearance but physically, have a great day everyone and stick with it, it's worth it!

I'm only a week in and if I stay dry tonight (I am very confident), that'll be less than 21 units with 3 AFD and 4 ALD, this has meant that I will have consumed 3,276 calories (6 bottles of Blossom Hill red, soft and fruity) fewer in just one week! I have also combined this with stepping up on my exercise routine to burn about another 2,000 calories in that week too.

Thanks Shaggy, would it be possible next month to move onto a combined 28 ALD's/AFD's (or maybe just call all 28 ALD's?), as my real target is being at or under 21 units per week, with a combination of both alcohol low and free days? Only after I had started cutting down, it became clearer what I needed to do to achieve my goal.

Do I still count as AF if I have had communion wine?

The days when I have handmade chocolates from this shop that contain Plymouth Gin (we live just round the corner from the distillery and the chocolate shop), brandy, whisky and anything else they can get into a chocolate count as AF in my world, so I would have thought a sip of the communion wine would have been okay. If, however, you're the priest and you down an entire bottle post-service - that would probably be pushing it.

    14/21 please, Shaggy.
