Calling early for today, so 12/30 for this month and I'm off on holiday for three weeks so I won't be posting for a bit. I may take my computer and log on at some stage but then again, I may not.
TTFN.

Did you try moderation or just go straight in for being alcohol free?
I had tried moderation unsuccessfully for 3 decades but every time ended up back where I started if not worse. This time I just stopped. I realised one day that I didn't want alcohol to harm me any longer. I'd made many bad alcohol-related decisions in my life even apart from the long term physical harm. Cutting down was never going to work for me (I know it does work for lots of folk). And that was the day I stopped.0 -

Aphidgirl I have done a bit of reading on th blackouts and I think as I understand it they are caused when your blood alcohol rises too fast...so maybe dilute your drinks, take it steadier earlier?

12/30 Though only just as I came home at 8 wet, tired, hungry and tried to pull DH off the waggon.
Fortunately no booze in and we live in the back of beyond so all good. Not proud of self though.0 -
Hi Everyone,
I've been reading this thread every now and again for a few months now and its a great inspiration.
My issue is drinking far too much at the weekends. I can easily go all week without a drink as I work away in a different city so my friends/family/boyfriend arn't here to go out with! When I go back home at the weekend though I'm in the mood to socialize and spend all of Saturday and Sunday (and sometimes Friday night) out with people, usually drinking for long periods of time.
The result is I feel exhausted and/or hungover most Saturdays, Sundays and even Mondays lately. If I'm tired/hungover from the night before I tend to start drinking again to feel better and then the whole thing happens again the next day!
It's becoming a problem as when I drink a lot I tend to have memory blackouts where I can't remember leaving the pub/party or getting home. These have been happening regularly over the last few years and its horrible not being able to remember the end of the night. It's also affecting my work a little bit as there have been two Mondays in the last 6 months when I have not gone to work due to being so tired and ill from drinking all weekend, and a few Mondays when I have gone in but have been so tired I've not got much work done and left early.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hi and post for a bit of added motivation to change things! I am sick and tired of being sick and tired, as they say, but I don't feel like I could give up alcohol completely. I'm aiming for moderate drinking at the moment but its very difficult to achieve!
I'm off to a party tonight and will being trying very hard not to get drunk....will see how it goes! Hope you guys all have a good weekend
Welcome Aphidgirl! Your post struck a chord with me - I've always been more of a social drinker too and the Mondays have always been the worst! I'm not as bad as I used to be, now at the grand old age of 45 I don't have the social life I used to have in my younger days! But I well remember the Mondays wasted by having just drank so much over the weekend. I always found (and still do find) wine to be the worst for memory blackouts etc. It's so heavy and a disaster for me on a night out so trying to steer clear of it and just drink it with a meal. How did your party go?MarylandCookie wrote: »Hi Shaggy, could I join please? Been a lurker for a while, but think the support on the thread is just what I need.

Hi guys
Although last night wasn't AF, and I'm not going to meet my target, i am actually really pleased because i only had 1 glass of wine
A normal Friday night is 1 whole bottle, so 1 glass is great for me.
I need to make sure i stock up on Schloer, as i didnt have any in last night.0 -
