Been lurking.feeling desperate as need to give up. Get home from work and simply lack willpower. Wake up early hours: heart pounding, feeling grotty and ashamed. Need to simply not drink at all, rather than attempt to cut down. Why can't I see sense? Perhaps de lurking will help0

Hi
I know that feeling all too well. It definitely helps being on here, everyone is very supportive even when you fall off the wagon like me this weekend!
I drank on fri, sat and sun! But mostly in moderation.
That takes me up to 10/14 I think. I'll have to go back and check and change that if I need to.
Didn't drink last night as felt a lot happier. Got some work stress out of the way, all 3 kids have exams this summer and they are now underway and DH had a clear scan at the oncologists. 3 years since last occurrence so looking good. All worth smiling about.
I hope everything is going well for everyone else.
Kind regards

I have will power in quite a few areas of my life. However, where alcohol is concerned I have none at all. Even though I used to say to myself "I won't drink tonight, I won't drink tonight" I'd find myself with a drink in my hand an hour later....
And when I had one drink, I had another, and so on.
When I tried to give up on will power alone, I could only manage a few days without booze before I'd convince myself that I was ok and could have a drink.
So I needed to get help for giving up, and I have to abstain totally. It's not always easy, but it's a damn sight easier than drinking and wanting to drink.
Good luck - if this thread doesn't do enough for you, please seek outside help.0 -

It has to help, no need to be out there on your own.:) The thread is about giving up and cutting down so room for everyone. I think the best advice I can give is to try one AF night and build from there. It won't be easy but you'll feel good about it. Most of us have used distraction as a technique to get started: have a soft drink alternative, plan an activity, go to bed early whatever it takes to take that first step.
Great news for your DH slowdown.:)
I'm planning another today and claim my first smiley this month.
