The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 13

The thing to remember about alcohol is that the moment you stop - you're free. The Moment! You don't have to wait a day or a week or a month. You are free the moment you decide to stop.
Everything else is the illusion. Alcohol tries to trick its way back into your brain and body.
But once you realise you're free - FB or anything for that matter - will have nothing to do with alcohol anymore. You won't associate the two. They are not related.
You're free. Stay free.0 -

Which AF wine did you have ElusiveLucy?
Becks blue for me tonight, +1 please Shaggy0 -
WANT TO BE SE - That is amazing, well done you. I remember you from previous posts and I think that is brilliant you have achieved that. Do you plan to be teetotal now or learn how to moderately drink?
How is your SE business doing, I bet your children are both in secondary now?
Another AF for me tonight, so 17/15 please Shaggy. I'm on a roll at the moment. I am considering what to do tomorrow night. Its Friday night, I'm child free and wondering whether to have a glass or two. But I don't want more than that, do I have the will power to leave the bottle in the fridge. Or shall I carry on as I am and make 7AF's in a row. Decisions, decisions. My aim has always been to cut down and stick to recommended levels, not give up completely. But I am questioning why to have a drink just because its a Friday night and I can. Hmm.......Live for the moment and plan for the future0 -

10/18 for me tonight - another night on the AF wine and it's working! My thoughts are that by the time I get fed up with AF wine I will be AF on school nights and an then switch back to water, lemonade etc. What goes around comes around.....I hope!0

I bought a few bottles of Sainsbobs AF sparkling when I first gave up so that I always had something on hand when OH wanted to celebrate by opening a bottle of fizz. The I discovered B***s B**e which I prefer and I hadn't realised the sparkling was going out of date until I checked a month or so ago. I now drink it well chilled with a lot of ice on very hot days and it's absolutely lovely for that. It's very much like elderflower champagne. I heartily recommend it.The thing to remember about alcohol is that the moment you stop - you're free. The Moment! You don't have to wait a day or a week or a month. It took me quite some time to feel free, I have to admit, but I think this is true.
OH had three pints last night and a rotten night's sleep as a result. I think he's finallly, finally, finally made the connection between drinking and his sleep being disrupted. At last.
And I'm laying off F'book other than checking for PMs every few days having recently been found by some American cousins I hadn't seen for 40 years. It can be useful occasionally.
26/31 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
WantToBeSE wrote: »Hi Everyone
You may remember me from lots and lots and LOTS of previous threads, where i could NEVER stick to even 10 days a month AF.
Well, thanks to this thread, i realised i really had a problem with alcohol. So i decided to do something about it. I went to get some professional help and am really pleased to say that i haven't touched a drop of alcohol in over 6 months!
I've not gone this long in my entire adult life, and honestly have no real cravings for it anymore. Occasionally i might see some on offer in the supermarket and think "i'd love a glass of red tonight", but i know too well that i wouldn't stop at a glass.
So it's better just not to start at all.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who supported me many times on this thread, your efforts were not wasted!
After two years I still get a passing thought that a glass of red or a G&T would be lovely and then I remember that, for me, it probably wouldn't be a good idea. That's it. I can live with that.
Huge, huge congratulations on realising it, making the decision, doing something practical about it. It seems like such a huge undertaking to begin with, doesn't it, and then it all falls into place once you start to live in a different way.
And thank you so much for coming back to the thread and saying what you'd done. I often wonder if people who don't post any more are okay and to hear such a great success story is a real treat.
Well done.Better is good enough.0
