    The correct adverb is "worrying".

"Annoying" and "worrying" are adjectives, annoyingly and worryingly are the adverbs.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Because if they did we'd hit them with our Zimmer frames, ride our mobility scooters into them as they walked along the pavement and as they crossed the road, drive into them in our Honda Jazzes.

  • I think the biggest problem is attitude! I grew up as one of four siblings, living with my mum and gran in a one bed roomed house. My mum was a single parent for reasons of safety, rather than through choice (she divorced my father and took a restraining order out on him due to his violence). There was a massive stigma on her (and us) in the seventies for not having a 'father in the home'. My mum spent her life instilling manners, a work ethic and a craving to better ourselves. We grew up extremely poor ( my mum regularly missing meals so we could eat), had hand me down clothes etc. I worked from the age of 16 (as did all my siblings). I became Ill during my first pregnancy and ended up completely housebound for a few months.....during this time I had to be assessed for incapacity benefit! I was so mortified by the process that I forced myself to go back out to work (even though my physical health suffered for it). I have worked every day since! I could have easily slipped into the habit of claiming IB....which made me better off than working ( once the other benefits are tagged on). Only the pride my mum instilled in me made me go out to work. benefits should only ever be a few months safety net.....not an 'alternative' to work.
While most people on benefits are not like those on benefits street - a healthy amount are! I live in a small place but I could name you at least 100 people here who have never worked - due to either depression, lack of childcare, bad back etc etc etc......none of these problems stop them partying all day and night, dumping their kids on the street all day and being professional spongers! There is no longer any 'shame' in being on benefits.....the people I know all wear it like a badge of honour! they all think the rest of us are stupid for working for less than they get 'given'.
Benefits should be reigned back in. I think instead of money, benefits should be given as vouchers for food utilities and clothing - that might encourage the professional jobless to take a job.

it's also not an either/or situation- BOTH the tax evaders and the 'career' jobless need sorting out!. what is worrying is that every town has at least one street that's a carbon copy of that one....so it isn't a daily fail fallacy! benefits should only ever be a very temporary safety net ( hard times can hit anyone) rather than a family 'trade'.

The current prevailing sense of entitlement without effort in this country really makes me rage! (especially when I think of how my mum struggled as we all grew up!). we started out with nothing and everything we have - we have worked damn hard for - we never 'expected' or thought we were 'entitled' to anything........THATS where the problem lies....too much PC bull and not enough getting off !!!!!! or giving a good bloody shake!
:rotfl:If it weren't for stress I'd have no energy at all. First rule of acting: Whatever happens, look as if it were intended.;)
Don't follow in my footsteps, I walk into walls:smileyhea When in doubt .............mumble.
I may look busy, but I'm just confused.:T I smile because i have no idea what's going on.:rotfl:

    The correct adverb is "worrying".

Nope - the word I want is definitely annoying - or maybe highly p*ssed off ...

You are indeed correct. Thanks for the correction!

It's just one possibility. I sincerely hope it doesn't happen, but with all the cuts going on and ever larger numbers of expectant retirees, something has got to give.

That's how we have so many Sirs in top jobs. A badge of honour for lining their own pockets. If you are working class, you have everything to lose and nothing to gain.

I seriously disagree with this in some cases, and feel it's unfair.

My parents came to Europe (first Italy, then UK) with absolutely nothing. Through hard work, things have been built, and we're no longer working class.

Please don't be so stereotypical, it will only serve to get me annoyed!

It wasn't deliberate, only a perceived understanding of what's going on: whilst the Honours List makes a great deal of a working class individual doing something outstanding, it seems to me there are many of those that are knighted without fanfare.

Almost , it would appear that so long as you are the head of a UK PLC, there is nothing more you need to contribute to earn it.

The same goes to those in top military jobs - nearly all sirs - for holding a position they aspired to?

Hard work and graft is often unneeded, that is unless it's embellished with some kind of class enumeration.

Old people get the best deal because most of them vote.
Why else do they pay less tax on the same income for example, then get freebies like free prescriptions and subsidized travel that younger people don't get even when they need it to get to work?

If you are referring to the extra tax allowance for pensioners, it is being phased out
Anyone born after April 5th 1948 does not get it. The allowances for those born earlier are frozen, while the allowance for everyone else increases, and will only increase when the latter catches up.
The advantage for the next tax year will only be £500 and £660 allowance, so the difference will soon be gone.

I didn't mean for that to sound as bad as it was, but I do understand that many people see this as what happens.

We both worked 16h days when buying the first business to pay back the loan and for that reason, I promised never to buy a company again. I've been accused on this forum of having a lot, but at the same time it's been worked hard for, and I can't see it being that way any time soon!
