Anyone selling an iPhone would have likely reset the device first to wipe all of their personal content off. How many times has the phone been abroad?

But I do know that the phone has not been deliberately/accidentally re-set.

It would be very, very unlikely for anyone to sell on an iphone without first erasing all the personal data which usually means a reset.

Where was the phone bought from?
Having seen previous bills, the data usage information does not correspond with these.

So what do the previous bills show?
  • The phone was purchased from new many months ago. Will have to check the date.

Previous bills were within the usage allowance of 750MB per month with nearly 300MB left over. I printed the pages from the Orange website to prove this.

No other countries were involved in this.
  • Oooh wait a minute. This phone was an upgrade. Am thinking.

So, it was yours from new.
If it has never been abroad except Canada, then 3.9Gb could be used in Canada only.
If so, it's not a billing error and you are at Orange's mercy.
  • Not necessarily. The current period/roaming period could have accumulated since it was purchased, as a previous poster mentioned. If it wasn't reset, then this is perfectly possible.

The call time could be resetting itself to the 24 hour clock. ????

You have had the phone since new. You have not been in any other foreign country other than Canada. The usage of 3.9gb is all yours and therefore was run up in Canada.

    There is no other explanation.

Call time simply adds up the number of hours and minutes. It has no bearing at all on the data used.

    Mobile data usage:
    ...
    Current period roaming - 3.9GB
No other countries were involved in this.
    ...This phone was an upgrade.
The only conclusion can be made that £3.9Gb were used in Canada.

Are you sure you understand the meaning of word 'roaming'?

Within the same screen it also shows how much each data app has used as well as system services at the end. If you want to find out what has consumed the 3.9GB of data, it's very easy to find out.
  • The only thing I can see is the 'use mobile data for' and the App Store is 556MB. Everything else is small amounts of KB.

Will pursue. Thanks for the info.
