  • Off topic but a note on Sky - we cancelled ours and bought a Now TV box. We got an entertainment pass for three months with the box then bf went on eBay and bought a bundle of 10 24hr Sky Sports passes and another entertainment pass for just £3 (usually £10 each) which he is now using to watch Sky sports when there's a match etc on that he wants to see. There's a lot of the sports passes on eBay as they were given away free with packs of lager for a while and a lot of people have put them online as they don't use Now TV. We also know that the £8.99 for the entertainment package and the cost of the movies package (gets you a great range of films) is still less than our Sky was once our passes run out :-) plus we've worked out you can share the subscription in more than one house so we are splitting the cost with bfs parents!

Back on topic, trip to Tescos ended up in a £4.42 spend from the GC will update my sig now

Thank you for that I am thinking of getting rid of sky.

Well after reporting yesterday my final amount for March, I went through my spend book and have just noted that I have spent £101.24 on random trips to supermarket and local shops for bits of food I hadn't even accounted for
Which means that my March grocery challenge ended up being £338.70 against my budget of £200

The extra bits I brought - apart from £30 which included valentine's day steaks, 5 tins of soup that were on offer, carrots and a couple of other bits - was just wasted money from what I can see.
Glad I have done my spend book as this extra spending I would never of noticed.

Hoping that I stick to £200 this next month as I am certain we can do it without cutting back, I just need to stop spending thoughtlessly.

Feeling bad so fingers crossed to be on budget next month - off to update my signature.
Christmas is the most magical time of the year :santa2:

LSD £1.25 but enough for three days food!
It's really easy to default to cynicism these days, since you are almost always certain to be right.

liking the idea of telling your DH that anything is wants to buy off list comes out of his pocket. Not sure if that would work for us though as the end goal is to cut grocery spends full stop, as opposed to the extras coming out of another budget... I'll have to have a think about this...I guess the fact that it would come out of my DHs pocket would probably be a bit of a deterrent. :rotfl:
I know it all comes out of the same budget in the end. I think I just started it because he was always adding 'rubbish' stuff. I just said he would have to pay at the end of month when do budgets and the first month I gave him an itemised bill off the whole month's receipts. He nearly fell through the floor :rotfl: but I think it made him realise how much money he was wasting. He's much more careful now it comes out of his own budget :j

That looks a gorgeous piece of fish :) could you tell me where you bought it please ;)

Managed to add another NSD. I did go out but avoided all the food shops and dashed round banks etc and home again.

The gammon in the S/C was great. Did it in cider, black treacle, pineapple juice, peppercorns and bay leaf. Had with HM duchess pots, HM cauli/leek cheese and peas. Will have cold with chips etc on Monday and then at cut up and freeze for basis of two more meals :J

Hope you all have a super weekend

  • Several NSD's to report, so am now back on track.
Lunch today was an ice cream and a hot dog, but in mitigation I was at the Central Districts Field Days, which was very adventurous as a tropical cyclone was due to hit. Cyclone delayed and we had a great time looking at toys for the farm. Managed to leave without buying anything, but enjoyed the experience. Winds are now building, but still have power, and candles lit just in case.
