Operation-garden-wall starts tomorrow! I've started a thread about moving plants if any of you have some tips.
It does mean I can get some veg planted just after the Easter weekend, which is the best news ever.0 -
Not raining today so I'm hoping to finish planting the Broad beans out. Digging up the beds is as nightmarish as ever, never ending deep roots from Horsetail, couch grass to thistles , drive me mad!First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

The spuds are in. I went for Sante for the maincrop as they're meant to be quite good for slug resistance and they were available without mail ordering (i.e. immediately!) If they're no good I'll try one of the Sarpo range next year John.
Last weekend, apart from planting spuds, I mowed the lawn, spread compost about liberally, patched and swept the greenhouse, built up a raised bed, chainsawed some logs for the fire, discovered asparagus :j serviced the mantis, rotavated the beds & found enough potatoes for dinner in the compost bin.
Although I've got quite a lot done, I've still not sown anything. I'll be doing plenty over the next couple of days though. I don't think I'm desperately late for anything really.
I've bought (:o ) sweet pepper plants from a garden centre as it was a bit too late to start them from seed.
I'm about ready, at least.
I have tomato sproutage! Much earlier than expected too. Still, should be fine to stay in the tray til moving happens.
I'm having a debate as to whether to go mental planting a few things the week I move. I'll be planting lettuce, but undecided as to whether to plant other stuff or not.:oIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I need to get lots done this weekend.
Including moving my broad beans, thinning out my tomatoes, buying some growbags, and a whole host more seeds to be started in trays (might need more trays!)
Am also going to be trying my hand at a gutter garden, so will be cleaning down the exterior wall where it's going, drainage holes to put in, liner, compost and then sowing. I'm quite excited at the project.Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
weeding is finished, it is the golden time and I will keep on top of it so the summer months get a lot easier. Parsnips have sprouted, broadbeans settled in their bed. 20 tomatoes looking very strong and out during the day. One more potting on for them.
Slug nematodes ordered for the first time after getting 4 out of 5 lettuces eaten. Watering can area stank so I looked to find one large dead stinky frog in a can and one large very weak frog in another, weak one has survived and from now on I will make sure that all cans are stored upside down
All squashes and courgettes sown at 26 degrees and are starting to pop up. Brassicas have been pricked out into modules and are doing well under net. Carrots starting to pop up, beetroots growing strong in modules as are lettuces. Just got kales, swedes, some chard, runners and french beans and some repeats like lettuces later. Relatively easy this year as am not squashing as much in and will be growing squash up obelisks, so taking up less room
Spent 4 hours on the allotment yesterday, weeding and cutting paths and edges. Azada tools are making life much easier and am picking weeds up after being chopped, to stop re-rooting. Soil surface is getting rock hard but raised beds are lovely and friable, I have broken the surface of the rest so that any rain can penetrate
Oh loads of glossy rhubarb picked yesterday and drought resistant flowering bee loving perennials ordered for the allotment as I am making life easier. Bocking 14 looks good and will be ready for the first cut in 3 weeks0 -
of course the beans aren't planted yet, I spent all my time digging and getting rid of those blasted roots - not that it will make that much difference to the weeds later in the year....looks neat for the moment, thoughFirst they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

Well that was a lot of catching up to do! My computer died
I built it 12 years ago but alas it's time was up so I'm back with a nice new one
Back on topic...............Nice to see BME back home :T
My minarette type cherry tree is covered in blossom again this year so looks like another bumper crop :j and both apple trees are looking good too. Raspberries, blueberries, redcurrants and strawberries all happy, in fact I've spotted the 1st tiny green strawberryGooseberries seem a bit late though.
Lots sown and in need of potting on, but I'm having trouble with a mini tomato after potting on, they keep curling up and dying so I'm guessing to damp for tiny toms so I've got more just up and will put into modules then little pots.
I forgot I'd put 2 courgette seeds in the heated propagatorBet you didn't know that they can grow 15" towards the light then the seed leaves  have composted them and stuck 2 more in.
The nasty fence that downstairs own half blew down in the winds, great we thought proper repair time. Only before hubby could catch them and offer to do it, the owner had been out bought a silver metal bracket and screwed it to the bottom of the panel and put a heavy pot on the other bit on the patio!!!!!!!!!!!
Hubby has now had enough and bought 2 new arris rails and a fence post and is just going to do it tomorrow whilst they are at work. And then I'm going to paint it white so it reflects what light there is in my shady south facing garden.0 -
One of my courgette seeds has started to show itself!:j very pleased with this as only put it in last weekend....
Need to transplant a few of the tomato plants today as they have developed their first true leaves and I may be brave and plant out the broad beans and the butternut squash as they are getting a bit big for their current pots....I will probably cloche them though...still don't trust it not to frost over and ruin all my work!!Mortgage 12.12.12 £55842 12.12.13 £42716 14.12.14 £28837 13.12.15 £25913
