It seems to be s*d's law that the things I really want to come up, arent and the things I'm not hugely bothered by are taking off.

Chives, basil and sweet peppers no.2 showing signs of impending shoots.

    Finally!
Sporadic outburts of sunny weather here so I'm thinking thats helping. All the seeds are out in the mini green house to take advantage and then some will be brought back in in a few hours.

in the seed trays: all Caulis are coming up, 1 (of 6) sunflowers, Broad beans are ready to be planted out. Else the self-seeders are great, well up and growing (chards, spinach, kale (near flowering). waiting now for courgettes, tomatoes, cucumbers in the greenhouse to show signs of life. With the freezing cold the last weeks I'm well behind again, as usual ;)

Is it too late to plant seed potatoes? Have had a run of problems which meant I was away from home so much that nothing got done in the garden.
Haven't managed to sow a seed, and seed potatoes are still in their string bags.
Am hoping to get some tomato seeds planted in propagator, along with peppers and aubergines.
Will plant peas in beds, and anything else I can fit in. Need to be low maintenance as I still need to be away a fair bit due to family bereavement, but at least have someone who can do basic watering.

At what size should I transplant my broad beans to bigger pots? Height wise I mean? Theyre in seed cells to kick them off, but there's 2 in each cell and since they seem to be exploding Im wondering if I should move them sooner rather than later?

I don't think it can be too late for seed potatoes just yet - mine aren't in yet either. The man was busy with other things so the designed plot has not been dug up yet...
re Broad beans, I put them in their final place once they hit about 5 inches and cover them in water bottle cloches. That's more to protect them from the winds than form the cold. Better separate the 2 from the cells ealrier (maybe 2 inches?) though, I think it might be harder to disentangle the roots later.

This time of year is so busy isn't it? But happy busy :D

It's hard work organising two gardens :o

I've got all sorts on the to at the mo- tomatoes, chillies, peppers, sweet peppers, carrots, celery, cucumber, cucamelons, melons and potatoes plus my regular plants.

My greenhouse is nice and busy, as are my windowsills :rotfl:

Unfortunately, bloody slugs have had a good go at my seedlings, but hopefully the beer pots that have just gone in the greenhouse will do the trick. The little swines have been at my tomatoes too

My brother had a go at planting onions in my parents garden today. I've got to redo it because he planted them too close together. And I mean 4 plants within 12 inches too close *sigh*

My heated propagators are proving totally invaluable :D shame I found them for a fiver less than I paid for them a few weeks earlier!

    I'm catching up slowly...

The spuds are in. I went for Sante for the maincrop as they're meant to be quite good for slug resistance and they were available without mail ordering (i.e. immediately!) If they're no good I'll try one of the Sarpo range next year John.

Last weekend, apart from planting spuds, I mowed the lawn, spread compost about liberally, patched and swept the greenhouse, built up a raised bed, chainsawed some logs for the fire, discovered asparagus :j serviced the mantis, rotavated the beds & found enough potatoes for dinner in the compost bin.

Although I've got quite a lot done, I've still not sown anything. I'll be doing plenty over the next couple of days though. I don't think I'm desperately late for anything really.

I've bought (:o ) sweet pepper plants from a garden centre as it was a bit too late to start them from seed.

I'm about ready, at least. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
