At no point ever did he mention price until I'd decided which shoes were right.

I found this. I was also never sold the most expensive shoes either. Pity he's now shut down; so I now have to either order online (not too keen on this, tbh) or visit Sweatshop.

  • I’ve decided to run the 100 mile South Downs Way at the end of next month over three days. Not run further than a half-marathon in one go, so should be good practice! It is training for the Ulramarathon I am running in July.

    Wow! Good luck with that.

    Just 6k for me today.

  • You're all putting me to shame with your distances and marathons etc! I've just finished week 3 of the NHS Couch to 5K podcasts, the distance covered is a bit up and down ranging from 2 to 2.5m each run but that's part of how the training works, building your stamina and endurance. Even though I only covered a distance of 2 miles today I achieved a new personal record for average pace so there are still signs of progress.

Am I just looking for excuses or do others find it hard to cover more ground in the colder weather like we had today?

Some run days are better than others. Today's covered two miles dead on and my mile pace is definitely improving :D

I'm finding that I need to repeat weeks on the training programme, so I've done week 3 twice, where we had to alternate 3 mins of running with 3 of walking. The next week is 5 mins with 3 walking, but today we went for 4m 30 as I couldn't push myself up the hill, so walked that part and ran for 30 more seconds after.

I'm loving the run keeper app, thanks for the recommendations

No shame at all - look at it this way, you still did more than the person down the street who sat on the sofa all night...

In terms of cold weather, it can be a bit more of an effort, but once you are out and warmed up, you should be fine... just make sure you have enough layers on to stay warm. I actually prefer running in the cold and dark rather than blazing hot sunshine.

I'm so relieved to hear you say that about week 3 (and for the heads up about week 4). I did my 3rd week 3 run on Monday and was considering running it again today. In actual fact I don't think I'll be going out tonight, with 60-70mph winds forecast it'll be great in one direction and agony in the other! But I think I will definitely run it one more time before moving to week 4.

No probs re runkeeper. Be warned though, it's been temperamental on 2 occasions for me and not logged part of, or any of the journey. Imagine getting home and being told you've run 0 miles lol. Thankfully you can use the website to manually track your route and it will update it for you :rotfl:

Very well done for going out! I didn't go lastnight because of the heavy wind and rain, I had vague intentions to go this evening but had errands to run and it was hailing/sleeting anyway. I intend to go tomorrow as normal but having booked the day off as a valentines surprise for my other half (who doesn't work Fridays) and more selfishly as a prelude to my birthday (which is Saturday) I suspect I'll be skiving again tomorrow :rotfl:

Running in hail - ouchie! Have had it twice this year. At least it didn't involve wind coming in the opposite direction this time.
