:T Thanks for the link, Yeovil is still a good 45 min journey but it's a much nicer place to drive around! I actually intend to take my car down to Yeovil for it's MOT toward the end of February. The other half wants to take his car to the dealership down there as well for a proper service so we're going to turn it into a day trip and go to the cinema while we wait for the cars). I'd be able to take a minor detour and visit them on my way home.

Excellent news. If its a saturday your planning, might be worth giving them a ring to see how busy they are.

I did that with my local shop and they said, Saturdays can be a bit manic, so went in on a friday morning, no one else there. The 2 owners spent over an hour with me and the other half, both doing analysis and trainers and got some other bits as well. Ended up spending over £200, not very MSE, but well worth it.

Yeah I work mon-fri so it would have to be a Saturday. But, given as I'll be booking the MOT up to 3 weeks ahead I can give them a ring and try book a suitable slot; their running shoes definitely aren't cheap though are they!

On the bright side, tonight's run was very good knee/muscle wise, so things have improved despite the shoes. I felt the difference running in colder temps though! I think I'll still invest in a pair of proper running shoes locally (they're only £25-£30 after all). I live in trainers outside of work so if I end up getting more after a gait assessment then I'd use the others for daily wear instead, they wouldn't go to waste.

Thanks to you and everyone for their advice so far though, it's been great. Having a proper running top & jacket has made running much more comfortable, I'm still not as reflective as I could be, but I'm better than I was.

I've just done a google search and, as I suspected, it looks like my nearest options would be Bristol or Bath and both are about an hours drive away and are places I rarely go.

If I told you my local shops consist mostly of hippy shops, witch/pagan shops and crystal shops, followed closely by cafe's (mostly vegetarian) and then charity shops, you can probably work out where I live! ;)

Is there a Sweatshop nearby? I personally haven't got any shoes from my local Sweatshop. I have the problem of having small feet, which makes getting shoes a bit difficult.:o

Just over 50 miles for the year for me. Second race of the year on Sunday. I just hope it doesn't involve spending most of the race with an ambulance up my backside. I should add that I was ok; but was right at the back.

The previous race I did was 10 miles. For reasons unknown, I then went on to Facebook and said I really want to do a half marathon now.:o:rotfl:

  • I haven't done much running of late, but I have just booked myself up to run my first ultramarathon - 52.4 miles on 13th July - I better get in training for it!

I just had to google them as I'd never heard of them before, there's 1 in Bristol but they seem expensive so I imagine I'll try out Kevsan's suggestion for gait monitoring in Yeovil and then head to my local Sports Direct!

Good luck with your half marathon, and to fufu with your ultramarathon - that sounds crazy!!

I know of two good running shops so if you're stuck, shout :)

Thank you, that's very kind of you to offer. I live near Street so have Clark's Village less than a 10 min drive away (that's where Sports Direct is). It's just the gait assessment that I have nothing local for. :(

You could go Sweatshop and then buy elsewhere?

  • Its great to see that we are all still doing this and have made it to February past the fickle "new year, new me" opening weeks of January.

Keep it up guys and dolls :)
