This is the view directly outside my house..!!!! The water is about a foot deep there but is almost 3ft deep at the other end of the street!!!

A guy got stuck in a drain not far from us and they police and fire brigade couldn't get him out and he died after 3 hours up to his neck and beyond on occasion in freezing cold water

Oh Pigpen I was just reading about the poor bloke on the news site, how awful, from what it said the poor guy was just trying to help his Grandad :(

Worried me a couple of years back when the area DPs brother, Step Dad and Nana live (oh and that woman he calls Mother when she is there) was very badly flooded, nowhere near a river it was the drains that were a problem. His step dad and brother noticed the drains were not coping and they walked down the street in their boxer shorts opening all the man hole covers to get it going quicker. You couldn't see what they were wearing it was that deep. They were carrying people out of houses who were stuck etc aswell. Several people were homeless for months, cars were detroyed etc aswell.

Just got to be thankful sometimes when I moan about climbing up the big hills to get home or trip on the steps that I don't have the worry of being flooded. Unless the roof or something leaks which I doubt. **touches wood**

Lil_me - I laughed when DS said 'Gak!'. What made it even better was that he first pulled the most awful face, leaned back on me, smiled the most gorgeous smile, then said 'Gak!' He's been okay with the Banana Sunshine breakfast baby rice, and the egg custard and rice was very acceptable this lunchtime. I shall have to watch that sweet tooth - two and a half weeks into weaning and already it's causing problems lol.

On the jar it said that due to the ingredients it may stain. Of course, I read that after I opened the jar.

BTW, I once used some delicate handwash laundry powder in the washing machine. Nowhere did it say on the box that you should not put it in a washing machine, but you really, really shouldn't. My kitchen was filled with bubbles that just seem to keep coming and coming. lol

Oh well, must really get tea on!

EDIT Just seen Pigpen's pics - I am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Wow pigpen that is a nightmare - I heard about the poor guy in the drain too how awful. Has it stopped raining yet?

Funny it is so sunny here, DS1 just cut the lawn and has done all the edges with the cutters - he was trying to get off a tv ban.

Have got the washing in as there are lots of black clouds

chicken casserole smells lovely, need to pick some strawberries and make rhubarb and apple crumble.

Shoes still everywhere so floor will move to tomorrow like usual.

Back later to check you are all drying out.

Hev - Definately watch the sweet tooth, my son tried the GAK response and when I gave in let him have pud he started GAKing at everything. I ended up just refusing him the sweet and he soon gave up. Some say they can't play you when they are babies, they obviously are either ignorant or stupid. Second child I was a meanie and he never got puddings until he was 8 months when he got yoghurts :) was much easier. Even now he usually prefers savoury things to sweet.

Right, dinner, must get it made :o bye for now :)

oh poor pigpen! It sounded funny when I read your first wet post about the rain coming down the chimney but it doesn't now.Surely it has to stop raining soon?

Can't remember who asked about flying either before or after work but my system is to do the dailies before work, so at least they're done, then do what ever can be managed after work. On days when I'm home very late ... parents' meetings, governing body meetings, local authority committees (yawn yawn yawn but obviously I LOVE my job) that means that the house is still basically ok even though flying will be at the most on level one. Ans that's after I've read the thread. Fortunately I'm a quick reader.

So as today was an early day -- I'll go and flap.

Well it has actually stopped raining here! But still very windy, my friend had to go on 4 diversion routes to get home and was almost defeated at the last minute but managed to drive half on the pavement to get through. She is working from home tomorrow as I don't think she fancies trying to drive her MG midge in all this lot!

Blimey! It's all been happening on here today!

So many posts I don't know where to start. I hope all those caught in the deluge are safe and dry. I heard throughout the day about that poor bloke firstly getting stuck in a drain and then drowning, its just awful. Pigpen, I hope the floods are retreating. I have lots of friends and family in Carlisle who lost so much in the floods, but on the plus side they all have fantastic new kitchens! I must ring to see if they're panicking yet.

Anyhow, well done to those too numerous to mention for coming back for more this week and thanks Lil_me for the list when you may be by now sitting by candlelight.

I had a whirlwind clean of the kitchen last night and level Three'd it. It really, truly didn't take very long thanks to doing it weekly.
    Tonight I have to
Chocolate-ise some HM hobnobs and not eat them all.
Make a cheese and onion bread- ditto
Clean my camera up to lend it out. Not as saucy as it sounds, just don't want them deleting my pics before I do.
-I'm off to gatecrash my Bro and SIL and the foetus' holiday in the wilds of North Northumberland for a couple of days and promised some treats.

I also need to pack (including wellies)
    Sort the moggies out
    Feed myself
Maybe give the livingroom a once over before I leave.

    Best get cracking.

Have a good evening and stay indoors!
