  • Mrsh, I was going to ask same thing about finger food! Ds is 7mths tomorrow so been thinking about what I could start him on with finger foods. Im petrified of choking, honestly to the point where I could easily talk myself out of giving them to him but I cant do that so things I have thought of are, a strip of melon, the organix carrot stick and rice cakes as they would be melt in the mouth. The annabel book said to try steamed apple and pear.

I have been pureeing his food so should I just mash it now? And has anyone switched to follow on milk? I havent but I do have a tub in cupboard.

congrats jem! Big hugs lazywife xx hi to everyone else!
my ds crawled into the kitchen after me this morning and pulled on my pj bottoms, made me feel all fuzzy :) night all xx

  • Ps kerri, can only echo what others have said, we didnt have a routine until about 3mths, when Dh went back to work I just soldiered on with feeding, changing and sleeping. they kinda work it out themselves. I can barely remember the early days now, I was in a haze! Even now the house work gets done when I get round to it, I dont worry too much unless someone is coming.lol x

we haven't yet put her down before we go to sleep as I'm nervous of leaving her in a room we aren't in!!

The midwife and HV during the safe sleep assessment (they both do it where I live) said that they shouldn't be asleep in a room alone as they need to be able to hear someone else breathing but your comment has made me realise that they didn't say what age until! Is it til six months like how long they're meant to be in with you for?

Any get up and go I had has got up and gone as I have tonsilitis :( on the plus side, mum had used coming round to help look after Thomas so I can rest as an excuse to clean my house. I gave it a token protest but she's insistent that she's enjoying it as it's what mothers do when their daughter has a baby, apparently. I'm not complaining, I hate house work lol
I'm really lucky to have her so close by -she's a ten minute walk from her house to mine and she finishes work at two. And middle sister too, although she tries to tell me what to do but she's been doing that all my life so I know how to handle it- remember that it comes from a place of love, smile and nod and sound grateful then do what I wanted to anyway :rotfl:

  • Hi minimuffin,

We're on follow on milk, a lot of people say it's a marketing fad and not to bother but we have because lo was on constipation milk so wanted him on milk that didn't have to be a made a special way for ease if we are out. He's been fine off it.

We tried toast fingers, biscotti by Heinz I think and banana as his first finger foods. I've been reading the blw website and annabel karmel for recipe ideas so going to try some over the next couple of weeks and try and get lo off his mush :)

Milk - we didn't do follow on. Kept her on the stage 1 milk until 12 months and then switched to cows milk over a 6-week period to get her used to the taste. Once she was on 100% cows milk she got constipated, so we switched to goats milk which is perfect for her :)

Choking - I too was terrified, the old timers on here might remember my worries! I watched a video on the Red Cross website (they now have a brilliant first aid app too, which is free to download). I also did one of their courses on first aid for babies and children. It was excellent and covered all sorts of useful stuff like rashes, burns, minor cuts and injuries, colds and flu, CPR, general safety issues in the home. .. and choking of course. I think everyone who has a baby should do a course like that :)

Argh I HATE moving house! Solicitors are so slow and unhelpful :(

    And breathe.

I'm saving my pennies for sainsburys next week, had a nose yesterday at what they've got in. Bit gutted to see the jeans aren't the nice lined ones he has now but the denim is nice and soft atleast. Sure I can find something to satisfy my shopping needs anyway ;)

It does say 6 months, however:

    1) If LO goes to bed at 8ish (I have no idea how we will ever get to this time!) then she would be in the room on her own as we would be downstairs so this means there are portions of the night she would be on her own - just as with naps I don't sit next to her. I will have a monitor but its still weird leaving her on her own!

    2) There is no way we will make it to 6 months with her in our room, her cot bed is huge so wouldn't fit in our room and she won't fit in the moses basket forever.

I was saying to my husband yesterday I wonder if we can treat her like a bonsai tree and keep her in small clothes to mean she stays mini forever, I just can't imagine her being big!!:o
