  • BabaMoose - I hadn't really thought about baby not being there when you register - all 3 were with me when I did it. I do, however, find it very old fashioned and strange that just because I'm married, daddy doesn't have to attend but they take my word for it that he's the dad. We could be separated, I could've had an affair etc etc although I'm glad as hubby was in Afghanistan when dd2 was registered lol.

    Nickit - dd1 is 16, dd2 is 9 and baby is 11wks. When we had dd2 our oldest was at primary school. I used to wake the baby as we were about to get in the car to take dd1 to school then feed/change/dress her when I got back. This time around, I would wake and feed Joshua when dd2 was eating her breakfast, quick bottom change then walk to school. She now walks herself - so much easier!!! Best advice I could give is let baby fit in with you rather than the other way around. Good luck xx

    :rotfl: Angelmommy, that's hilarious - and so true!

    BabaMoose, the hospital sends the birth records through to the register office, so they know you've had a baby even if you don't bring it with you :) At least that's how it's done here.

    Hope everyone else is well - have a good day all x
  • CD, I don't use a changing bag as such, I've got a Kipling Defea handbag which is like a tardis. We bottle feed as well, but just take the disposable SMA bottles and teats so don't have to take separate bottles as well. I am also using up my maternity bed mats which ended up not being used by cutting them in half and using them as disposable changing mats.

    How much do people carry in their changing bags?
    I tend to have:
    disposable changing mat
    cellular blanket
    4 nappies
    half pack of wipes
    cardigan
    sleepsuit
    2 vests
    trackie bottoms
    t shirt
    socks
    saline drops
    3 bibs
    dummy
    small bag cotton wool
    nappy bags
    3 bottles of milk
    3 disposable teats
    and then my own stuff (purse, phone, lippy, pen).
  • Hey everyone

    My lo just has a small bag now, like a rucksack, and all we pack is spare clothes, nappies, wipes, snack and drink. Obvs if we are out for longer then a bit more. Lo likes to put stuff in his own bag atm so we end up with a bag full of happyland people or books!!

    When he was tiny I def used to overpack, tons of clothes, nappies, muslins, milks, cream, calpol, hats etc! I never needed it all but couldnt help but pack it!!

    All I pack is:

    * 3 or 4 nappies
    * handful of nappy sacks
    * wipes
    * tiny sudocrem and calgel
    * 1 muslin
    * 1 each of spare vest, sleepsuit, bib, hat and dummy
    * as much expressed bm as I reckon we need or a tommee tippee bottle with formula pot and flask if I'm out of ebm
    * purse, phone, pen, notepad & keys

    The hat is one of those thin ones, the vest and sleepsuit are also thin and my change bag has its own change mat so I don't need another. I figure on having the minimum to cope with most day to day snafus rather than taking everything she might conceivably need, but most of my journeys are less than an hour from home or big supermarkets.
  • Normally I pack 2 of everything, so bibs, dribble bibs, muslins, vests, babygrows, nappies, bottles and bottles of milk (going to look for teats as cow/gate I think have stopped the cartons as that is what we did buy).

    Then have a pack of wipes, pack of nappy sacks and a changing mat. The biggest bag I have is the boots one that came free when I bought some nappies as I am in the parenting club.

    I took 3 of everything above yesterday due to being out for so long as that was the 1st time we'd been out the house for that amount of time.

    I keep thinking that at home I can change her more than 3 times a day so being away from the house in that sense scares me.

    The boots one has been a lot better to use in that it has separate compartments as the one that came with my pram is just one big bag so everything gets muddled up.

    My boots bag does not get my personal stuff in, so I have my handbag that draps across me with my purse, phone and keys in it. Would be fab to just have it all together.

    When G was little I used to put in 4-5 nappies (depending how long we were out for, that would do a half day with a couple spare I think), fold up changing mat, wipes, spare vest & sleepsuit, blanket, muslin, toy (that he never ever played with til he got to be much bigger - totally pointless effort!). I bf though so didn't have to worry about bottles. Now I take one nappy, half empty pack of wipes, water cup, snack pot, book, handy wipes. I figure if the worst came to the worst and he did two huge poops or something its not often I'm further than a few minutes walk from a shop where I could grab a small pack of nappies/snacks/bottle of water so why bother carting a ton of stuff around. If I was going for a walk out of town I'd bung a couple more nappies in to be on the safe side.
