Sorry ladies, I just have to brag because I know that you will understand this: so in her 17 and a half months, whenever A has woken in the night, I have gone to her and been with her until she either goes back to sleep or I give up on the idea entirely.
If OH went in to her, she would go from crying to full on screaming. Last time we tried to get OH settling her, she cried for 45min until I couldn't take it anymore and went in. The evenings I go out, we just hold thumbs that she doesn't wake whilst I'm out...
Last night she woke after everyone had left and we had just settled on the sofa for a post evening drink before bed. OH offered to try and settle her. He did it!!!! :j :j :T :T :j In 35min he had her asleep in the cot again where she slept until just before 8 this morning
On the toy note, she loves blocks, puzzles, books, pull alongs, ride-ons, and anything that makes a noise. She's also really getting into drawing and we do some everyday using either crayons, pencil crayons or koki's - always in her highchair lol0 -
Hi thanks for the support. The first week is done and was so great having OH and LO with me, then they left and I was OK for the two nights, just kept busy and had early nights! Now I'm on my
Way back down for 3 nights so fi gets crossed I'm ok. Must say I had such a wonderful reaction off LOwhen he saw me at the station picking me up! He was so excited and kissing me and touching my face softly,so sweet!!
Woodern toys related- if you have a Wilkinson's by you they have a lovely range of wooden toys, last year we got s noahs arc from there.0 -
Asda also have some good value wooden toys. My daughter is getting the dolls house for Christmas. She's nearly 3 so it's probably the last year I'll get to pick her presents!

Way to go Saffa!
fran-o glad you had a good time at center parcs. Very restrained on the Haloween front! We have a bargain vampire costume from mamas & papas as they reduce them early and I'm considering getting a pumpkin too!
OH bought LO a smart trike carnival on a whim so LO is sorted on the trike/ outdoor toy front for a bit. LO seems to like it and I really like the fact that it has a kind of plastic 'cage' so he doesn't have to be strapped into it.
I'm getting very tempted by toys! I fell in love with this toy car
at mothercare today but didn't buy it as it was £26! I think I really like the Battat range of toys. Happyland toys looked good too and there was a very cute Christmas set for a tenner. At least I have ideas of how to spoil LO for Christmas now.0 -
Hello everyone. Sorry I haven't been around, it's been quiet tough in our place which is why I have finally got round to coming on here and asking for some help.
LO (she turned 1 on the 6th Oct) *I think* is standing her ground when it becomes miss independent in terms of eating. All last week (Mon-Wed) at nursery she refused tea and they struggled/took longer than normal just to get her to eat 1/2 of breakfast & lunch. She happily ate tea for me but would do the whole shake her head (which I has assumed = no more I'm full).
However for breakfast on Thurs I wasted cereal and toast before giving up for an hour to then try her with yoghurt which she ate. At the play group I go to again she shook her head at the meal and basically ate chunks of cheese and rice carrot sticks.
Same pattern kinda repeated Fri at which come Fri night I openly admit = me crying and getting very frustrated at her not eating and me wasting my time and effort cooking food etc.
Saturday = happy mummy as had hubby not working and we went out for lunch and decided to order a kids meal for her and just let her do it all herself. She happily at the most she had all week, ate the chicken, new potatoes and spaghetti hoops and got upset if we loaded the spoon for her.
Does this behaviour sound like the shaking her head is actually telling us no help please let me do it? I made her scrambled egg this morning and just let her get on with it until she started throwing bits on the floor that is.
Do you think I need to be making meals that she can just pick at herself? I feel I need to mention this all to nursery tomorrow so they're aware otherwise like me they'll assume she's not hungry.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Hi CD, A has periods where she goes off her food/ suddenly eats much less than she has been (I think possibly if her gums/mouth is hurting).
She has whatever we have so at least I'm not making her anything special but it can be very frustrating all the same.
If she doesn't want to eat, I often just tell her fine and then sit down and start eating the food - if she's hungry she'll then either try to climb into her highchair or onto my lap to eat too. If she's in her highchair and doesn't want to eat, then I'll take her plate away from her and "eat" something off her plate. Very often this will cause her to grab for the plate and then eat.
As for head shaking, I don't believe our LO's are consistent with a yes/no response yet at this age. Often A will say no no no, taste the food and then wolf it down.
With regards nursery, perhaps suggest something that she always eats - and so even if she won't eat the regular meal, they can ensure that she has eaten something iyswim. I tend to look at A's diet over a full week rather than day by day; some days she may eat terribly but over a 7 day period, she will have a balanced diet.
I think it is quite normal for LO's to go through phases like this. A will often refuse to eat something she loves if it is presented slightly differently!0 -
A quick update...
As I said on Thursday night she was stuffed before bed and slept through until 6am.
Friday night she woke at 11pm. She came into bed with us and lay quietly for a while, then started wriggling and trying to escape, so I put her back in her cot. She starts screaming. By half past 12 I'm ready to feed her. Cue Hubby "What are you doing". Me "I just need her to go to sleep". Hubby "You're not feeding her she was stuffed before bed". Me "Ok let's give this controlled crying a go". I was very good until I got to the 30 mins go. I couldn't last longer than 15 mins. But she finally passed out at 1.45am.
Sat night she slept through until 6.15 am.
This morning it was 5.10am (she was in bed at 6.15 last night though). By 6.30am she is yawning her head off though.
Babies!!
CD apparently some babies go off food when they start walking as life is just too interesting to eat. My LO was terrible on holiday, but I think there was too much going on in the restaurant to eat.0 -
CD - we have similar issues with food (sometimes wonder if I get anything right! !!)
Have you tried giving her a spoon /fork and letting her have a go? This was a break through at our house as it appeared lo had decided he could do it himself and that was that. .massive novelty of using cutlery!
I do agree babies get too busy to be bothered eating. I feel like that Is happening at our house all the time. He's got a 10 minute window where he will sit and eat and then he wants to get down!0 -
Apparently it's the Sainsbury's toy sale starting today - may go over to the big one to have a look on the offchance they're doing cheapo balance bikes again but I doubt it since the roadworks en-route are horrid.
Still got the eldest's Christmas stuff to buy - apart from the Elsa dress I got last night while Asda had 'em back in stock.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
