AFM - now lo is one I have no idea what to do with his milk. I know we are meant to steer him towards cows milk but this morning was a no go so I mixed 3/4 formula with a 1/4 whole milk which he's taken. I just don't know if I dare give him cows milk at bedtime as he still has a night feed (or 2 as he has decided to do for 3 nights ). Is this me being a lazy mum or is it still ok to feed in the night at 1? The hv thought it was outrageous but what do real mum's do? ??! We've had a nice little routine with the formula and solid food and I don't welcome the change tbh

We stopped night feeds at 7 months, and stopped bedtime milk at approx. 18 months as I was getting worried about her teeth (she'd always fall asleep from the milk and then we'd have a tooth brushing battle, which is the last thing you want at that time of the day...). At 12 months, we switched from formula to cow's milk over a six-week period, reducing the formula and increasing the cow's milk by 30ml a week. It was so gradual that I'm not sure she noticed. We then found that she didn't tolerate cow's milk very well, so we switched to goats milk, which is great for her.

When we stopped the bedtime milk, I followed a similar six-week changeover routine - I replaced 30ml of milk with 30ml of water each week until she had only water in her bottle. Again, no complaints. She has a water bottle in her bed at night, and it's often empty by the morning, so she obviously does help herself throughout the night - but as it's water rather than milk I don't mind. I suspect she finds sucking on the bottle comforting - this may well be the reason why your LO too wants feeding in the night rather than because he's hungry, if he's eating well during the day?...

As always, it's about what works for you, but a gradual changeover worked well here, so might be worth a try if he isn't keen on the taste of cow's milk.

    welcome Derby
I would give OH a big NO to marathon - see if he can defer entry. On top of training, he'll be tired at home and find it hard to help. Those first couple of months are so rough!

lazywife I'm only just starting to like LO again after he's been to nursery 2 weeks (3 days per week). I was well and truly sick of him when I went back to work. Work is so much easier!

Saffa sorry to hear about your bad night, hope LO is sleeping better now.

Nutella I love crafting and can't wait til LO can do it. We're gonna try going to and arts & crafts session on a Saturday morning - she also put on a sensory session too at the same time so LO has had a play in paint. I thought I'd like to make santa handprint art but I don't think it looks as good as I thought. I might have a go tho.

Question: Currently debating on whether or not to get a Cosy Coupe or Trike. I quite fancy getting both! Does anyone have a trike that they would recommend? some of the reviews are so mixed.

Aw you guys are fab. I've had a much better day today, we got out and about and he slept because he was tired, not because I had to fight him to do so. Things are good again :) I love that I can share with you rather than breaking down with DH/ My mum, I don't want them to feel helpless when I'm down.
I ebf, when I introduced cows milk i started doing a wind down drink of milk (after changing LO into pjs) in front of telly (most often cbeebies bedtime story) then upstairs for brushing teeth and stories before bed. I don't think it matters which combination works best for you (I know BIL swore by formula milk for ages as pint per pint it's cheaper then cow milk ?!?)

Hi and congrats Derby2 - my eldest (daft saying that when she's only 2 1/2 - but I've got an 11 month age gap) was 7 weeks premature as well and apart from her not being the greatest in terms of gross motor skills you'd never know it now.

BeNiceToMyself - we've got both - the coupe gets used and the trike pretty much doesn't... I'd go for that, but this time of the year you can get them fairly cheaply second hand as people are decluttering their garden and putting toys away for the winter as well... think we paid a fiver for ours and I need to get the other one down from grandma's house to be honest as they're starting to bicker and attempt carjacking on each other now! We got most of our outdoor stuff from a creche that was closing down though so got very lucky in that regard - we have things like a ridiculous nursery sized sandpit and stuff in the garden.

My 2 1/2 year old loves crafts - isn't happier than when you give her a basket full of collage bits and a pritt stick for the afternoon - I'm not as motivated over it as I should be following a small incident where we were doing toy car tyre prints and I forgot to check the toy cars I'd got out weren't the sort that you pull back and they blast forward of their own accord... but I do try to give her the chance when I can (a bit harder when her little sister's only just out of the trying to eat stuff phase though)... Big One starts preschool tomorrow - wibble! She's very keen to go though and keeps asking if it's pweeskool day yet.

  • Thank you Bangton for the birthday wishes. Sounds like you had a lovely day for your LO's birthday.

Myself and hubby are both off tomorrow with her and cannot wait. I've got tomorrow off due to an in service day being a Thursday next April and I don't work Thursdays & Fridays so instantly knew what day I wanted to swap and then hubby booked the day off.

We did our last family photo shoot of the 1 year package we bought followed by a smash the cake shoot today. She didn't know what to do with the cake, which I guess is a good thing as haven't got a sweet tooth on my hands. She wanted to chase the balloons and kept crawling after them and seemed to love the chocolate fingers off the cake. She ate some of the icing well butter cream style icing but I don't think she actually managed to taste any of the cake.

The cake definitely didn't get trashed like I thought it would and we've ended up bringing quite a bit of it back with us. So currently got cake over load in the house as of course have a 'proper' birthday cake for tomorrow.

Cannot believe that a whole year has passed since I was in hospital being induced. This time last year in another 2 hours I was ringing hubby to say come back as was going down to have a c section....time just goes wayyyy too quick. Then on the other hand I'm quite pleased with myself in how I'm some how managed to cope/get on with it and been a mum for a whole year. Makes those melt down moments feel normal if that makes sense as the over all bigger picture is the main thing.

Had LO's 1 year review last week. All was great bar that gross motor section so they have to come back and see her in 3 mths. She's only been crawling for 6 weeks so isn't very interested in standing up. She pulls herself to her knees but if we try and help her stand she gets cross with us because she wants to do it on her own. As she didn't meet that section they have to re visit I was told. Trying not to stress to much about it and just get on with it and do as much as I can with LO to help her get used to being on her feet.

  • thanks Dizzi, think I'll go for a cosy coupe and forget the trike for now. Trike seem like a minefield!

CD happy birthday to your LO. At 1 year my LO had only been crawling 2 weeks! hope the review goes well in 3 months x

LO tried salmon risotto today and loved it. He wouldn't touch filo pastry tho!

She absolutely took to preschool like a total champ! Saying hello to other kids waiting outside, wandered in like she'd been there forever and was most upset when she had to leave!

Just bought a lot of crafty bits from Lidl this afternoon (ours still had loads of toddler waterproof sets in as well btw)... paperweaving sets and animal boxes plus stickers and things (guaranteed 20 minutes' quiet in this house and then 20 days of finding the flaming things afterwards).

Been to get them both weighed - there's 1 kg and a bit difference between the pair of 'em! Not much in it now - only about 2-3cm as well depending on who's had the growth spurt last... need to start looking at car seat weights as Erin's hitting the limits soon for her current one (suspected she was close hence going to get her weighed) and I really really really do not want to have to swap to just a high back booster with a stubborn 2 1/2 year old!

    Hello all.
Not much to report here. Baby has had a cold over the weekend and is on the tail end of it now... Lots of snot! We've also had tooth number three (front top left) pop through on Sunday. As you might guess, some nights have been hard work. Definitely feels like autumn here now and we had the foot muff on the buggy for the first time today! He's in the winter sleeping bag too!
Just sitting under a sleeping baby (fed to sleep) and wishing I put on a jumper before i sat down! :snow_laug

    Hi Ladies

Fran o, hope LOs cold clears up soon.

It's defiantly colder here too. Had our heating on most mornings for the last week or so and have been putting LO in his bedtime slipper socks!

Not much to report here. Just about to tackle my huge pile of ironing.

I have a question actually. Baby monitors, who still uses them? We do and he is 2 and a half. We have a video one which is fab and I can't imagine not using it, our new house is a lot bigger than where we were before and I wouldn't hear him from downstairs, plus with his asthma/cough I like to keep an eye on that. I know a ton of people don't use them though, or stop using after a certain age. What do you all do?
