Hi Ladies
Crazy week here. Took LO to a new park last Saturday and ended up in a and e!!
There was a roundabout with a metal frame with a little girl spinning herself super fast on it. A was stood with OH waiting his turn before he let go of OHs hand and bolted to try and get on. The roundabout was still spinning and hit him on the side of his head with such force he flew right back. I have never seen a lump come out so quickly, it was the size if a golf ball in 30 seconds. Took him to the hospital who monitored him for a few hours and did all the routine tests. He was fine and has a huge bruise to tell the tale!! So frightening though.
I can't remember who asked about photo day at nursery? Whenever A has one they put up signs and put it on his daily forms so we know. I have always taken a spare outfit especially for the photos and asked them to change him into it, I think a lot of the parents do that where he goes. Did you not know about the photos? If not, it's odd why they wouldn't promote it as they get a small part of commission for the sales made. Was there any reason she was changed? If she had got messy then I wouldn't mind. If there was nothing wrong with her outfit before and you hadn't been told about photo day I would be miffed.
Katie glad playschool is going well, it's crazy how they can turn off the tears as soon as you leave!!

Evening ladies
Hope that we've all had a lovely weekend, and hope all the poorly little ones are recovered.
At nursery, A (16 and a half months, been going since she was just over 1) does drawing (crayons, pencil crayons, paint with brushes/finger paints), water play, sand play, garden play (balls, climbing, swinging, sliding), sticking, messy play - with playdough, foam. They also do reading, free play with a selection of toys they have there. Snack times are a big part of the day - they do hand washing before snack, sit at a table (on chairs with straps) and all eat together. They also do singing and nursery rhymes in the morning with the older kids.
I had an afternoon off this afternoon - it was lovely actually; met a friend, wandered around a national trust property, had a cuppa and a walk and some adult conversationWhilst I was out, OH entertained LO and cooked us a roast dinner.... I could get used to this
Anyway, taking A to see the inlaws tomorrow morning and planning to try out a soft play group tomorrow afternoon.
Have a lovely week all0 -
Sunshine, I posted about photo day - OH was told as he dropped her off that morning; no mention in her daily book or any signs or notices beforehand. The t-shirt she wore that day had some paint on it that I cannot get out (from a previous painting day at nursery) but as it is clean I still send her to nursery in it. She keeps spare clothes in her box as whenever they have water play she gets thoroughly drenched! The clothes I leave at nursery are second hand things that I wouldn't dress her in for going out but fine for being at nursery in if that makes sense and I would have sent some of her non-nursery clothes in for photos. Whenever I think about it I get annoyed again!0

oh dear Delain and Continual I hope your LOs bugs go away soon.
sunshine I hope LO feels better now. You must have been so scared!
LO started crawling about 3 weeks ago so I guess that's one of the reasons I haven't been posting as much! I've also noticed that he seems to be a lot clingier but this might be because he can crawl to me for hugs. I read this book 'what every parent needs to know' which was recommended to me by a friend. I love it 'cos it makes me feel better about giving LO lots of cuddles and affection and attention - it tells you that it helps mould LO's brain so he can cope with stress and strong emotions and be loving himself.0 -
 Sunshine how awful! Glad he's all better now, must have been scary to see.
We've been to the park today, G has started making us imaginary cups of tea and cakes at every possible opportunity so OH and I were slurping from invisible cups and eating invisible buns in the middle of the crowded park! Also picked up today's free lego from WHSmiths, he's loving it! Think I might give it a miss tomorrow but Wednesday's looks good.
BNTM I'm sure I read that clinginess often increases when they start to crawl as they suddenly realise quite how big the world is and get afraid you'll disappear into the sunset without them. G was the same but he overcame it fairly quickly as I remember.Newborn thread member

Oh dear Sunshine, hope all is well now.
Re nursery - my LO today did painting with her feet. She does painting a lot, not massively but nicely spread out. I want to find a big scrap book to put everything in from nursery. Besides that today she's played with bead runners, loved hitting the button to make a train spin and ring and loved listening and joining in with singing time. (that's what was mentioned in her diary)
When I picked her up she was in the mirror den sticking her head out, smiling at another baby and then disappearing back in. She then crawled out holding onto a wooden love heart which was quickly thrown when she spotted me.
We visited a play centre for the 1st time at the weekend. It's free for under 1's so as she's now crawling we thought we'd check it out. She loved it, though wanted to crawl up the slide most of the time.
Can I ask how much people are thinking of/do spend on birthdays and Christmas? LO is 1 in 2 weeks and we've been buying different things but then undecided what to give as birthday pressies and what to put away for Christmas.
We've spent £53 on her pressies for her bday, is that too much? It's 6 items all together, two of which were from a kiddicare store so were massively reduced.
So far we've spent £33 on Christmas pressies. One toy is from the two for £15 section at argos, decided we'd use one as a Christmas pressie and another is a bargain puzzle for 99p. (Found that on the fb thingy I mentioned - it's called bargain finds for all the family)
I guess I'm just nervous given that Christmas is only 2.5 months after her bday. Don't want to spoil her on her birthday and then have her expect loads at Christmas because it's okay as they're from Father Christmas if that makes any sense.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
CD, I wouldn't worry about how much you spend or whether you will spoil her or create expectations - she honestly won't understand what's happening anyway! She will enjoy getting some new things to play with, she will enjoy the attention and general buzz, and she will undoubtedly enjoy wrapping paper and boxes (bubble wrap is the best!), but the concepts of 'birthday' and 'Christmas' are lost on a one-year-old. My LO was 7 months at her first xmas, so 19 months at her second, and she had no idea what was going on, although she did enjoy 'helping' me unwrap presents and scrunch up the paper. For her first birthday, as well as for her second, and indeed for xmas, we ended up spacing presents out over three days as it was all a bit much for her in one day.
For us, it's only very recently that LO (now aged 2 years and 4 months) has started developing an understanding of birthdays and presents. Don't worry about what others think you 'should' spend or whether £x is too much - just go with what you feel comfortable with0 -
We had a tantrum the other day as Erin had decided it was her birthday and the calendar disagreed!
Just made some cupcakes as a present for grandma - they're cooking at the moment and then I'll let Erin loose decorating them - the last lot looked like an explosion in a cake sprinkle factory when she did that (with pink sparkly princess frosting as well - so utter heaven for her).
Christmas - I'm planning on spending a max of about £40 per child on them - a bit of Happyland each and a couple of little books and things, possibly some more dressing up bits for the box as well since the blue sparkly fairy slippers that have been decided belong to Elsa (not those hideous hard plastic things - these are more like fabric ballet pumps) have worn through with overuse!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -

CD I agree with Nutella, there isn't a right or wrong amount to spend on a LO, just what is right for you. G's first bday present was off Ebay, he doesn't know any difference as long as it works! I can't honestly remember what we got him for his first Christmas, bad mummy! But I know it was a wash out due to teething and no sleep the night before. Last year was better but he slept through Xmas dinner and at present opening ended up having to have a rest on the sofa and watch some cartoons as he got so overwhelmed with all the excitement! He actually opened a Christmas present in July as he got so much from various family members. This year I want to get him a good farm set (recommendations welcome if anyone has a good one? Want a realistic type one rather than the cartoony type iykwim) and a few little bits to do a mini stocking, Lego will be high on his Crimbo list for other people to get.
Other than that we've had a nice morning, took G and dog to the bigger park near us so G could take his balance bike. Apart from me getting annoyed with some of the yummy mummy types in the park and burning my tongue on a hot chocolate it was fun!Newborn thread member
