hello ladies - I did come on this thread briefly after having my daughter but I've been so busy getting used to being a mum of two the weeks have flown by before I've realised!

continual diamond I am in Notts too - always nice to see someone on here who is nearby IRL!

I was just wondering if anyone on here is breastfeeding, and if so whether you've ever had any negative experiences? With my six year old son I always had very positive experiences with people even congratulating me for feeding and it's also been the same with my daughter until tonight.

A security guard at Sainsburys told me in front of other customers that I couldn't feed her in the shop I'd have to go to the baby changing rooms to feed her and that was "Sainsburys' policy".

I told him that the Equality Act 2010 says that I can feed her in public and Sainsburys cannot treat me differently to any other customer purely because I was feeding her. He just walked off and when I raised this with the manager, he told me that he had never heard of the Equality Act and admitted that he did not know whether Sainsbury does have a breastfeeding policy or not as they have never been given any training in the topic.

You'd think a company that big would know the law and needless to say I'll be contacting the head office.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this kind of experience and if so, how you dealt with it? xx

    I'm in Notts.

Had the kids at the park this morning - Robyn is actually really good on a scooter so the hope of getting rid of the pushchair (or at least using it less) is tantalising... if I can get a cheap single with buggy board I'm going to try getting by with that for a while and am definitely getting rid of the double strollers I have at mine and my mums as they're just too heavy/big for them now.

Unfortunately the splash pad wasn't open till 10 and it was too hot to hang around waiting for it so we just had to slum it on the swings and slides!

Hi Marywoo! I've been bf almost six months with my first baby. We've had a few strange reactions eg macho bloke yelling about yummy mummys across the shopping centre when I was feeding in a cafe, a pub landlord making odd comments and not knowing where to look! We've never had any request to stop/ move thankfully, I would not have been as confident in my rights as you were! Well done :)

hi dizziblonde we've been frequenting the water parks too, my son's always been a real water baby!

I'm really impressed that you were at the park before ten, I struggle to make it out of the house earlier than midday! :rotf:

hi fran I recognise you from the pregnancy threads :) I've never had anyone shout at me, that must have been unnerving for you, I hope it hasn't put you off feeding xxx

I'm in Notts too! Where are the water parks you've been going to? My mil has taken him to the fountains in the square. Have you been to the beach thing? I want to take G when we get back from our hols next week.

Mary I think you did brilliantly standing upto that idiot! Hope head office are more use than the store manager. With so much in the press about it you'd think staff would be told.

How are the LOs coping with the heat? G has been a bit out of sorts today but not too bad. I can't cope though, hate being all sticky and hot all the time.

    Evening ladies :)

Hope everyone's well and have had a good day. Lovely day here - LO and I went to a farmers market down the road this morning, and in the afternoon we went on a little family outing to the local boating lake. It was LO's first time on a boat - she loved it! :) We all came home shattered though - I feel ready for bed!

Katie, my LO gets quite sweaty and sticky, but doesn't seem bothered by the heat. If we didn't have fans I think we'd have sleep issues though, as her little bedroom gets really hot.

Have a good evening all x

If you're over toward the Derby side of the city - West Park in Long Eaton has a toddler play area and then a splash pad right next door to it which is really nice on a hot day (although a 2 year old armed with a water cannon is a rather worrying thing). Gets absolutely heaving in the school hols though - they were out pitching UV tents at 10am earlier in the week when we were there and then a few big kids spoilt the littlies' play area a bit.

Not water related - but Wollaton Hall just had a big new play area fitted as well and that's got a lot going on (but obviously you pay for parking there) and we tend to go over to Markeaton Park in Derby a fair bit which has the big open air paddling pool along with the huge play area... few other bits like bouncy castles and stuff you have to pay for but I'm cheap and we just go on the free stuff! I'm kind of limited at the moment as to where we can go because of having the 2 year old + 1 year old combination - too big a little sis to sit in the buggy meekly but too little a little sis to really run amok up slides and things. She's a demon on the scooter with seat though we discovered today!

Never been on the riviera thing but I've seen it a lot when I've been in town for various things and always laughed at the utter bonkersness of it - but we have both sets of grandparents living in coastal towns so have easy seaside fixes if we want them (I'm still nursing the insect bites from the last visit though)

I've never had a problem feeding in public yet. Well done for standing up for yourself :T It might be a good idea to write a letter of complaint to Sainsburys to see what they say. A lady at my local breastmates put a formal complaint to a gym and got us all a free swim. I think the manager had a heart attack when over 30 mums and babies turned up!

I was just feeding DD and remembering when my breast was bigger than her head. At 5 months she's now rolling and trying to sit and crawl.

Oh and I think there's a paddling pool area at Viccy Embankment but I haven't been there as it's a bit of a pain to get to for me... not sure what's at Highfields Park either - the tram works put me off trying to get to that one!
