I do 1, 2, 3 time out in the corner for Erin.

However today she decided to turn the tables on me - was cross with me (I think I'd made some utterly unreasonable request like eating the breakfast she'd requested or similar) and she loudly announced...

"Mummy am going to count to fwee"
"What's going to happen when you get to three Erin?"
    "I... DON'T KNOW!!!! WAAAAAHHHHH!"

My giggles at this did not improve her mood at all.

oh my hv came today too. She was nice enough but was dismayed to learn lo has a mainly veggie diet (as do I ). She said he needs orange juice with meals now and that he should only be having a morning/night bottle at 9 months old. eek!! Also he can have peanut butter which my previous hv said no to.

Oh and my fire isn't safe enough. aside from that all ok. and WOAD he was eating a sandwich when she arrived! ! It's fine! !

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a veggie diet, so long as it is balanced. They should check that a baby is being fed a range of protein and keep their nose out otherwise!

Orange juice - did she say why? All fruit juices are very high in sugar so I thought the advice was not to give them or give them watered down to avoid tooth decay, and to give water with meals.

Also babies should have as much milk as they want. Only 9 months for goodness sake, not like you're giving loads of bottles to a 4 year old.

I think that allergy advice now is not to introduce early if there is family history, but otherwise to go with it whenever. So I guess I agree with that part!

I agree with crabapple how silly to say that a nine month lad should only have 2 bottles a day. I'd hate to hear what she advises breast feeding mums to do!

I've never heard the Orange juice advice either, it just doesn't make sense to me. Be interesting to know the reason.

Bangton, your HV sounds utterly clueless! OJ shouldn't be given to children under at least 3/4 unless a few mls is given to relief constipation (much easier to persuade them to drink than prune juice!).

As for milk, that's rubbish! We've just seen HV at 12 months, and I said LO is on 3oz in morning, 6oz in afternoon and 6oz before bed and she said that's fine as up to 18oz is fine for a year old, and she eats loads!

Just follow your baby, I always have with food and milk and she's been in routine since about three months old. I know every child has a different temperament but I think if they want milk, then let them have it

Sorry I should have explained that better! The Orange juice, she said, was necessary to help absorb iron. This was after discussing his meat free diet but she didn't specifically say it was because he doesn't have meat.

I put a lot of effort into my son's meals for the week - planning and ensuring he eats different meals each day so he gets a wide range of nutrients/tastes/textures. Sometimes this falls flat - my raspberries go mouldy or OH pinches all the spinach but that's my aim anyway. I did feel happy with his diet but I'm questioning myself a little bit.

I explained why he didn't have meat and it's mainly because I'd be making two separate meals if I'm honest. OH and LO would eat the meat dish and I'd have to make something else. so this whole - give him what your having isn't true for veggies if my HV is anything to go by! ! I've also never prepared meat - she said shepherd's pie and lasagne is good as it uses mince so is not difficult. I suppose I'd learn but I'd be nervous giving him something like that. It's not like messing up a butternut squash really is it? ?

The bottle thing actually made me stutter!! She'd asked if he had 2 bottles to which I said no, he has an afternoon one and up til very recently a night bottle making 4 bottles (I'm sure this will start again! ). This isn't strictly true though - he also has 2 little bottles of about 3oz. Having said that, full bottles for us are 7oz but he never drains them so in truth I'm always saying he has 7 when in reality it's more like 6.

His weight's fine. He's put on 2lbs in 3 months.

WOAD - I always get the big baby thing btw!! It must be all those bottles ;)

Bangton, my LO is 2 and has never eaten meat. She eats a healthy and varied diet - in fact much more varied than my carnivore OH! Please don't worry; a well-planned vegetarian diet gives you all the nutrients you need.

Ladies looking at baby proofing, please please don't use socket covers. UK sockets are already safe, by law they are manufactured to be safe. Socket covers can damage your sockets, putting your child at risk of electrocution and also creating a fire hazard - When all by themselves, UK sockets already have protection against those things.

Here's a website with all the technical info you could need. If you don't have time to read it, just look at the pictures.
