Peaty... I have researched and researched my little heart out. I have certain desires that I want to fulfil when purchasing said bag and when I have found bags that fit this specification I then go through different blogs and reviews over and over again comparing each one against weight / size and other specifications...
This last one posted was pointed out by someone at one of the London outdoor stores which I frequent on a regular basis in order to check sizes, ensure I like it after not seeing it for a while, try fitting smaller bags inside it and so forth...
It's painstakingly boring to some but it means I am generally entirely happy when I buy something and although some items are expensive I never have to go through this again...hopefully!
Shyspender you are right however I am hoping this hoody takes me all the way through the next 5 years never mind 6 months... It will conquer the exceptional air-conditioning in the SEA airports and buses etc that over-compensate for the heat but hopefully will be a good mid / base layer that will accommodate some high altitude climbing as the Everest Base Camp is on my wish list as it Mount Fuji and eventually somewhere down the line Antarctica.... I think long-term....; -)
CEW I got my own message sent back to me...lol!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
My mum always said if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. I am spitting feathers so I bow out. Love ya Kat...
Ooh on the subject of being nice, I didn't mean to say that backpacks are boring to me. Just that the most time I ever spent researching one was choosing between the Animal one with pink or blue flowers. (I got both)...I am ignorant, but not bored! I think the research you do is top top notch. You could be a professional reviewer!

Ok probably for the best LDL.
Also its ok re your comments about backpacks. When I went travelling I didn’t really know what I was looking for and if I picked a backpack again I’d probably choose a different one, the one I got was too narrow.0 -
Lilt - I understand you signing off for the night.
You and I both understand it must be difficult for some users to be so constantly tiresome and arrogant and down right oblivious to the desire I have for their swift departure from our presence so we might proceed forthwith.
The oblivious commentary on subjects that have already been discussed and deliberated upon is repetitive and somewhat ignorant of the topics at hand.
Ultimately though the peculiar "desire to please" is what worries me most and is somewhat bordering on the infantile and are mostly obscure in their irrelevancy and delivery.
Thus I am lead to believe these users can only be either very young in their worldly outlook or perhaps just loners, socially awkward, unable to maintain or hold down what is the common perception of "normal" relationships and therefore have nothing better to do than to interrupt and de-rail those that meet online. They also seem to live under bridges.
But it takes all sorts right?
Mother always told me that I should not tolerate such diabolical impertinence from one who's mental capacity is not much more than a brick. So the cloak of invisibility has been thrown and the "spam" button is our friend.“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
Payslip is in. Another £2100 to the travel fund! Whoop!“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Most probably a bit of both. However don’t worry once you get travelling Kat you will be away from these people, in my 18 months travelling from 2009 to 2011 the friendships I made were far stronger than those with people ‘back home’. So don’t worry about this issue for now and just concentrate on your saving and the anticipation of your trip.
Anyway I’m going to be back on the road for three months from October – Central America is the destination, I start a new job in January and couldn’t miss the chance to do a bit more travelling before then!
Travelling is the most wonderful experience and certainly makes you a more accepting, well rounded and generally more interesting individual. Anyone who hasn’t done it is truly missing out.
Also just noticed that your last day at work before your trip is Friday 12 September 2014, my last day before my trip was Friday 11 September 2009, almost exactly half a decade before! There are so many similarities between us it is uncanny!0 -
Fufu I wholeheartedly wish you a wonderful trip. Please don't pay for wi-fi. A narrow backpack seems to fit your world view perfectly. Stick with it.
Kat, once you have a blog set up, there are these wonderful block buttons which stop imbeciles with a keyboard. I personally wish MSE would do something about it. Meanwhile I continue to hit spam.
Edit: Bah my mum would not be proud of this. As many things as I have to say, she is still right. So I vow from this moment forward to not entertain trolls in any way, shape, or form. Other than hitting the inevitable spam button. Sorry Kat for dragging it on and allowing further posts to clam up your thread!

Thank you LDL.
As a traveller I see wi-fi as something that should be avoided as much as possible. I don’t have a laptop, tablet or a smartphone and I certainly wouldn’t want one to go travelling with.
Travelling is all about meeting new people and experiencing new things and I would not want to be sat in a hostel using my tablet, etc and avoiding human contact – you go travelling to get away from all that.
I’d suggest just to find an internet caf! every couple of days to check your emails, etc and enjoy the freedom travelling brings.0 -
Kat my payday is not til tomorrow and as per YNAB and your challenge for Aug I don't actually touch it until the 1st.
Can't believe how much you have shoved over there immediately though!!exciting times!!!!
I was sat thinking last night about the enormous difference you individually have made to my life. From getting out of debt, to the challenges and keeping me on the straight and narrow. Letting me live vicariously through your travelling exploits... And cheering me up and on at every turn! I can't wait for the next chapter!!!

Awww Lilt you make me smile.
What doesn't make me smile is that the current mileage on my bike might see me missing out on a LOT of money..; - (“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
