  • For £6 a night thought I would sleep anywhere but in a room with smelly boys. Lol!

  • So that flight I booked..............Ugh!

On Sunday I met with DueSouthTwin who shares an equally obsessive personality trait that allows for muchus time spent wallowing in a cup of tea at the massive Starbucks within our cinema.. that is before I coax and cajole her to watch some trash "just because" we have Cineworld cards and can walk out if we don't like it - we never walk out - we sit and endure - like last night at The Expendables 3........

We watched Lucy on Sunday in case you are wondering - a thinky number, with thrills and a few spills and the weirdest ending that you would never imagine...

    Anyway I digress....

As I sat with DST I spoke about my plans, my flight bookings, my recent hotel bookings ( she was thrilled don't worry ) so I also checked my bank account to figure out where I was with my travel fundings.. then realised on top of the £276.44 that I was charged for my flight a further £341.76 was taken out.... que a little :mad::mad::mad::mad:.

    • So I sent them an email.
    • That wasn't sufficient so I sent another.
    • On Monday I rang them before I went out.
    • They are based in Madrid.
    • Their operatives don't speak English.
    • She managed to convey that a refund was already being processed.
    • An email followed later that day to say I had been charged twice in error and £232.50 was being refunded.
    • I queried this and asked why I was not getting the full amount back.
    • They emailed back and told me why I was paying £276.44 and broke down the fees for me.
    • I politely told them they were imbeciles, I knew what I was paying but why they were not refunding the ENTIRE amount of £341.76 PLUS the AUD to GBP fee of £6.87.
    • They told me they would call the airline and check this and get back to me.
    • Today I receive an email saying a refund is processed and will be in my account "soon". With no indication of HOW MUCH is being refunded.
    • I will go mental if it's not the entire amount.
    Time will tell......

Still haven't bought a rucksack or hoody. Got some capri pants though - put back a £30 royal blue tunic at TK MAxx. Regret that.

I reported the troll too. Unreal behaviour... Back to THE TOPIC AT HAND...

I cannot believe the craziness with the money. That could have been so much worse if you hadn't a: realised and b: had the money in your account!!! How they can charge more the second time around is a little strange too. Hope everything ok with bank and you get your money back. If not, did you pay on a VISA debit? They have the same rules as credit cards to a point, you can be refunded via the bank.

Sorry for hoody and rucksack woes... *hugs*

  • Ooooooooooooh Lilt I DID pay with a Visa Debit?? I might hit them for the AUD to GBP transaction fee! The third party booking people charged me and then the Airline charged me in Oz dollars - I spoke with a rep online and they said "yes madam it's $610" - I said "no it ain't it's £618 which is $1098" - then she gave me the number for their office in Australia.

So I called them - and they were useless. Need to fess up to the LL and tell him that 3 minute call might have cost a bit. Then the call to Madrid yesterday morning.... Ugh!

A hoody has been spotted - but even though it has everything (thumb loops for my personal comfort / a nice hood / zipped pocket / a good length / suitable warmth retention / non-bulkyness and a high collar ) its the colour and the price that scare me...

Have a look... at least I know when I hit the peaks of the Himalayas I won't need to replace it...; - )

And the rucksack in case I haven't shared this already.... This one is special! it allows a little one (that I will carry empty inside) to be attached on the back - any brand as well. Thick strong material / rainproof cover / adjustable back-straps / lockable zips - but it's bigger than I wanted AND more expensive but I NEVER want to have to do this again so at lease when I go trekking in said Himalayas I can squeeze in a massive jacket, a few more layers and a sleeping bag - and use the compression straps to make it smaller when I want to...?

What do you lovely people think?...

Some people don't know when they aren't wanted do they.

The hoody is eyewateringly expensive, yes, but looks very durable, weatherproof... almost like you could go swimming in it and not get wet! :D lol. I like the blue colour, but I am a Chelski supporter, so of course I like blue.. haha!

And the backpack, for the unitiated into the land of backpacks (yep me), one looks much like any other to me. The weight is the key part yes? The smaller one would be a great addition. I am sure this should come in very handy, even once you're back home :D lugging tesco shops back home :D

I think the bag looks great. The fact you can put any smaller daypack into it has got to be a big bonus and I also like how the straps and harness all get zipped away for when you are flying and travelling.

The wiggle factor of the hip strap and the height adjustable back support look great too.

As for the hoodie, I think the blue is great. It looks like it does everything you want and, if you are going to be living in it for six months or so, hopefully the cost means it will suitably last you that long and longer.

I completely agree LDL, but then again, we wouldn’t know otherwise, would we?

When I went travelling for 18months I made sure I got a backpack that opened at the side as well as the top. That way if you needed something that was right at the bottom of it you didn’t have to pull everything out and you could instead just undo the zip along the side and get to it easily.

    Hope this tip also helps.

How do you find these backpacks? Do you find reviews and then find the product or is it the other way around?
