  • Money wise - a sticky issue... i thought i had more in my ISA than i did so im looking at about 10k in total however im wanting to work in oz so i dont think thats too bad?!
Just a word of warning (which I am sure you already know) Australia is extremely expensive. Or it was when I lived there in 2010.

Make sure you get to New Zealand though, I liked it so much more than Oz.

    Hello Indigo!

You know what they say - no time like the present. If it's been in your head for so long then why not get up and go if you have no ties - do you own the house you are in?

I guess I am a bit of a planner - then come to think of it I will probably lose sight of most of my plans once I get there. The idea is to KNOW whats there and available along the lines of what I like - whether I managed to do then is another matter all together.

It's great that you have £10k tucked away - considering everything is in dollars over there you have more than you think. And you know everything will stretch if you stick to hostels and street food.

Yes it definitely seem likes the right time to go for you!

I was planning to be in Burma over Christmas - along with my cousin. But a friend will be in Burma in January.. so I might switch my months and spend December in Laos (as well as NYE ) and be in Burma/Myanmar for January... then over to Cambodia and Vietnam - it's the backwards journey in the grand scheme of things but I am not sure I will stay in Burma passed when my friend leaves due to how expensive it is so this means more time in Cambodia which suits me fine...

He is my my best friends husband and will be on aid work for my church in Burma for 11 days so he is my main priority - especially as I currently spend my Saturdays eating all his food here in the UK - his wife has allowed him a total of 21 days (10 more than work requires ) so we can explore together.... (they have two little boys so she can't come as well..:()

What are you doing for Christmas though? - I have yet to break the news to my cousin (who is awaiting a large divorce settlement) that I cannot afford "by the beach" resorts in Burma at that time. And we will be in Laos instead if she wants to join me.....

I booked my first two nights in Bangkok... can't find the payment referring to it, the account with which I paid it and can't remember the name of the hotel I booked... madness. Only cost me £11 but even so I took forever to locate it... :o

Right - enough from me. More soon!

Hello Diary lurkers - guess what day it is??
:rotfl: It's Japanese Encephalitis Injection Number 1 Day! :rotfl:

I laugh purely because it's costing me £100 per injection but thankfully there are only two and not three. Otherwise I would be very :(:(:(...

AND more importantly I have been thinking about this rucksack issue. Whats the point in buying a bag from the US that I can't try on. It might not "fit" my back properly and sending it back will cost me MORE money. I am very tempted now by a smaller version of my original Osprey Farpoint which is 55l.... Have a look at it here if you are really interested....

    The saga continues..........

However I need your opinion..These might be THE sandals that are coming with me... but what color...:)

Right back to the grind.. need to plan getting rid of some stuff before I buy more stuff - does that make sense?..

NSK personally I would go for the dark earth or port colour in those sandals. Black is too harsh and the others may dirty easily.

Yup my thoughts exactly. Always just liked the brown for some reason.

JE injections and Cholera paid for = £250.

EDIT; Just tried to hand in my resignation. Got talked out of it by my boss. She has made some valid points about me not owing this organization anything - that I can come back when and if I want. They have no right to call me back... I can use it as I want... and she was shocked about what I have been doing for the last two years........ she said I need down-time in Ireland to really think things through while not working stupid hours ...

So I am not feeling well today so an poised ready with the Travel Fund debit card ready to go mental and book my flight from Japan to Australia as it's only £234 at the minute. I also want to buy my sandals for £65. I also want to buy my rucksack for £100.

But I have stopped myself. :)

The flight will still be there at the weekend and I need to weight up the probability of getting my ferry on time ( end of March ) in order to avail of my hotel that's booked in Osaka which will then give me ample time (21 days) to see what I want to see and leave then around the beginning of May...

But will I have enough time if I missed that ferry or it was full. Would I have enough time to see everything in 3 weeks instead of 4 weeks..?

I can only book the ferry tickets around February next year ( 90 days advance ) so I can't really guess but I am assuming it won't get too full...

    Hmmmm quandary's.......

OR I don't book it at all and try my luck at a flight within a few days of deciding when to leave. That might be the best option to be honest....
