  • Congrats toooldforthis, great news, yet nerve wracking at same time. Hope it works out for you.

Not sure what it's like for maternity bras but Bravissimo is great ordinarily.

WTDN- yay!! The early scan is amazing isn't it!? Had mine last Monday and still not over the high of seeing heartbeat.

Whoever recommended the Emily Oster book THANK YOU! This is exactly what I've been after, some evidence-based reasoning behind the (often conflicting) recommendations. Downloaded it this morning and about a quarter of the way through already

Congrats WTDN! It's a great feeling. I have a booking in appointment tomorrow, does anyone know if I will get a scan?

TOFD - welcome and fingers crossed this is a sticky one. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for you.

FallenArcher, could you give me a quick summary of whether Emily Oyster says I can colour my hair? It's really terribly grey and looking terrible. I can live with it if necessary, but if not I will try to do some light root touch ups.

Congrats Tooold, hoping bean is sticky x

Re Bras - I got fitted by the Freya ladies, very nice bra. And surprisingly Primark does soft nursing bras up to I think 38F, 2 for £8.

Re exercise - my midwife told me to carry on as normal. I questioned this as I roller skate, play roller derby (like rugby on wheels, inc intentional hits to make opponents fall), and wild swim in rivers.... She laughed and suggested yoga!

She basically says unless you're planning on injecting the hair dye into a vein rather than put it on your head go for it! :) all the 'data' for not dyeing your hair comes from rat studies where they had the dye injected- not exactly representative of real life. :)
  • I used to play roller derby- not the best choice of sport for an injury prone person like me but I loved it. All of the skaters were so cool. Felt like the dork at school wanting to be in with the cool guys! :)

I ate an enitre pack of braesola and parma ham after the relevant chapter. :) haven't told OH that i'm 99% sure it'd be fine to clean the litter tray though... Take the perks where you can get them! ;) now just need to convince him that runny egg and peanut butter ARE fine. He threw away my breakfast the other day (egg on toast for starters with a slice of pb on toast for pudding) - wasn't impressed!

TCD - I love that your breakfast has starters and pudding!
  • Tea&cake, shhh about the litter tray ;) DH hates doing it but at least it's getting done for now! As for eggs... last pregnancy I made marzipan with raw eggs for the Christmas cake. I did know the chickens had been vaccinated against salmonella though, as they belong to my Aunt. We have chickens too, but they're a rare breed and stop laying around October.

Wow to the people on roller skates. I could never even manage to stand up on them when I was a child, had to use walking sticks to stay upright. My sense of balance is terrible (though cycling is OK)!

Hoping for a better night tonight, DS got us up at 5am as he was hungry and had done a poo :( Took him to the doctors as he's also still being sick on and off, and they said he's OK, just the lingering effects of the norovirus we had a couple of weeks ago.

On the subject of things we can and can't do - what about Steam baths and massages? I have a groupon voucher for a turkish hammam that I really want to use..

I don't think so! Shouldn't do anything that raises your core body temperature at any point in pregnancy (so steam rooms, jacuzzis, even hot baths are out) and as for massages, I was told absolutely not during the first 12 weeks, and after that it should really be a specific pregnancy massage by a qualified person. :( I had a pedicure a couple of weeks ago and she would not even let me have my feet in the foot spa!
