Not much to report I'm afraid Firebird - just feels like an endless waiting game!
I'm 6 weeks now, and more sleepy than usual. Hopefully there's a little lentil-sized embryo in there that's responsible, but I'm still holding back from fully believing it until the scan.0 -

I had my booking appointment yesterday - nuisance from start to finish, as the midwife had moved it at last minute from surgery to the hospital, where parking is a total nightmare. I didn't get told anything I didn't already know, and answered about a million questions, so not exactly the useful discussion appointment I was hoping for. Supposedly the other hospital where I'll be having the baby should be ringing me today to arrange the scan...if they received the *faxed* notes yesterday. Honestly, what century is the NHS in?! I'm just generally going to be grumpy until I've had the scan and confirmed that the foetus is alive and well. 12 weeks today. I always assumed I'd know by now
Aw, that sucks Firebird; sorry to hear of your experience. I think it's all very backwards as well - having to carry your paper notes around to appointments because the community midwives can't share data electronically with the hospital! It does all seem rather last century.
Luckily it seems to be a little better here and I did actually get my scan date in the post as expected. So irritating though that the letter guilt trips you into taking the appointment that's convenient for the hospital - we should be capable in this day and age of more flexibility in the system and more weekend/evening appointments. I've already lost 0.75 days' pay due to having to attend my two midwife appointments near home, over an hour's drive from my current client and will have to take another half-day off for the scan. Still, very excited for the scan nevertheless as even with all the symptoms I'm not sure I'll truly believe it until I see it!
I've been so much better the last two days - no throwing up or nausea and just mild indigestion as my only symptom. So thank goodness for that! Long may it continue... definitely getting a more rounded belly already. I know some of it is bloat but I'm now fairly convinced that a good deal of it is baby because I used to easily be able to suck my stomach in so it was concave and I can't even suck it in to be flat now!Cleared my credit card debt of £7123.58 in a year using YNAB! Debt free date 04/12/2015.
Enjoying sending hundreds of pounds a month to savings rather than debt repayment!0 -
Well we're having lunch and then headed out for a little bit of shopping before the hospital today. We have a second 12-week scan and combined bloods. I am 12+2 today, so hopefully they'll be able to do what they need to do.
Annoyingly though, my dds choir has been cancelled, so I'm trying to arrange someone to pick her up from school. New to the area and only know a few people
Hope baby is cooperating and lying as nicely as last time! Can't remember if I said, but their big sister was mooning the sonographer! So, exactly the same personality as now!
ETA: Little monkey was lying face out and was all but refusing to move. At one point, it looked like they were waving, and then they had their little hands and their face. After having my belly poked and prodded quite roughly, and being told to bend my knees and smack my bum off the chair, they finally moved after I went to the bathroom. Back to being 12+4 and the original due date of 12th June
All measurements are looking good, which is a relief. I always get nervous before appointments!0 -
More grumps - phoned the hospital today re scan, as suggested by midwife. They haven't even for me on the system yet, and then appeared to be suggesting that I'm not exactly high priority as I'm 'out of area'. Lady then suggested that if I phone the appointments people on Monday afternoon they should have sent the letter out (ha! I'll believe that when I see it) and will be able to confirm when the appointment is. Undoubtedly it will be at some incredibly inconvenient time, proabably scraping in before the 14 week mark. How do I stop getting annoyed and thinking about this?!
Glad to hear things are going well for the rest of you at least. I can't help imagining the worst because of the lack of information.0 -
Hi firebird, I would be getting stressed too. Just because you are out of area it shouldn't matter, ild be tempted to make a complaint if you don't have the scan before the recommended 14 weeks. Hopefully you will get better news on Monday0

I'd be straight on the phone to them and tell them how urgent it is.
I don't think you'll be able to stop thinking about it; I know I wouldn'tAnd I'm sorry i cant offer any real help, but were all here if/when you need to have a grump!

Hi all, lovely to hear people getting 12 week scans. See you on the best thread in a bit.
My news - had my early private scan. And there's a baby in there with a strong little heartbeat. So we've told a few people, and I've had some changes made at work because of certain risks. I rang my GPs who have a midwife clinic between 8-10 weeks, but you can only book in when you're 8-10 weeks (they wouldn't let me before). Anyway, my appointment isn't until I'm 10+2. So I'm hoping my scan will be booked soon after that, especially because I'll be 12 weeks on New Year's Eve and they're likely to be short staffed over Christmas. I'm not stressed about it though, now I've seen the heartbeat I've relaxed a lot.
But - a new weird feeling. It feels odd that people know! Like suddenly my life and body aren't private anymore or something. Oh well - I'm sure it'll pass.0 -
Hi all,
Finally checking in... the sickness has been disgusting for last few weeks. Had a couple of days where still feeling rough but functional.
Firebird I hear you... I didn't have midwife until 10 weeks (earliest appt available) although she said it should have been at 8 weeks! Scan finally come through but not until 12w5. Definitely hassle them.
Bit gutted.. was really looking forward to announcing at work. (Only told my particular friends so far) someone had guessed, asked a friend who confirmed it (was gutted by that too!) then was banging on about it in front of other people. I told someone I really like and she already knew due to the gossipshaven't had scan so wasn't really wanting it to be common knowledge but also, waited years for this.. to share our news! Grr.
Yay Ratison and sweet babu great news about your scans!:rotfl:0 -
