  • I am quite a gullible person, I remember totally swallowing the antibiotics one from a friend of mine a couple of years ago. In my defense though she really went to town with her imaginary skin disease, lurid descriptions of symptoms etc.

In the end, I don't really mind if people are suspicious. If they're polite enough not to say anything now, hopefully they'd be polite enough not to ask what happened should I have reason to seem sad and start drinking again in the near future.
  • I think most people should be polite enough (unless they've had a few) to accept whatever excuse you give them without questioning it too much. Pretty sure most of my work colleagues suspect, though none have actually been rude enough to ask!

Sorry to hear that some of you have other people spreading your news without consent - that's incredibly unhelpful and impolite, especially at such an early stage :( I would be furious.

    Welcome, Peppa!

On-going scan saga update: I phoned the hospital again this morning, and eventually got held of a more helpful woman. She confirmed that I wasn't currently on the system. Once I'd explained the situation, she went off to find my faxed-over record. At this point, she explained that the reason that I wasn't high priority for the scan was because I was down as 11 weeks gestation on the form, even though I was 11+6 when I saw the midwife, and therefore it wasn't seen as urgent. So she was going to make sure I was entered on the system today, and said ring them again if I haven't had an appointment through by Thursday. So I'm feeling a bit happier that I will get seen in time now. If I'd known it was going to cause so much grief, I would have added a day on to my LMP at booking in!

  • I've decided to just say I'm driving for my xmas party and leave it at that.

I don't know if its just because I'm trying to keep it secret but everywhere I turn there is baby chat at work and I can just feel my cheeks glowing. We never usually mention babies since there are only 14 women in our team of 200. It must just be because I'm self concious about it!

One question .. I have a hacking cough at the moment and each time I cough I can feel pain in the lower part of my stomach. Sometimes its on one side, sometimes the other. I'm 5 weeks and 2 days and haven't seen a doctor or midwife yet as I'm awaiting to hear back from a self-referal for an appointment. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't worry too much unless it's painful when not coughing, it will just the everything stretching as you cough, however if you are really concerned there is no harm in ringing the Doctors to ask :)
Re hearing baby talk, I think it's a mixture of you suddenly notice it more for some reason and also your more self conscious to it.

We told the inlaws yesterday that we needed the afternoon off work next week for hospital test appointments (work together so had to say something) and they assumed we were still having issues and are going for fertility testing/checks so I let them believe that and told my parents the same thing (they talk and didn't want my mum feeling hurt if she thought we hadn't told her). Either way hopefully will be a very nice surprise next week for them. I felt awful lying but it's awkward when we dont want to say anything until after the scan but we have to say something to get the time out of work due to how much we do.

Defiantly ready to start telling people in some ways as we are pretty certain my belly has popped as I have a lovely little bump arrived!

I've certainly got a little bit of a pot belly going on now at 9 weeks. Can't suck it in any more but rest of abs still just about staying flat apart from bloating.

3 weeks til scan. Still feels like an age and that I could just be getting a bit fat....

Arbrighton, it definitely drags from finding out your pregnant to getting your scan. I thought it would never come.

New is it your scan next week? How exciting! I bet you can't wait to share the good news.

I definitely feel my stomach has started to round off. I put on a pair of jeans for the first time in a about 2/3 weeks and gosh that was a struggle. Will definitely go back to wearing leggings :rotfl:
  • I'm only 7 weeks, but my tummy is definitely bigger than normal (partly weight gain before conceiving, and partly bloating). The other day I picked up my OH's running tights instead of my leggings, and was horrified to find them tight at the waist! I used to be 6inches smaller than him

Good luck with the scans girls.
  • Good luck with the scans, girls!

We're telling my parents this weekend, and I will be so relieved when everyone knows!

I am still fine in my normal clothes (well, they feel fine, but I've got what looks like a muffin top, so wont wear anything tight!) However, we went out for the entire day on Sunday - probably about 15 hours and were eating quite a bit so I succumbed to the old hairband through my jean loops! Oh it was so comfy :rotfl:

I'm 13+3 so will probably make the move over to the next thread now, but will still be popping in here.
  • Hi all

I am feeling SO much better it's unreal. Just very excited about my scan now (on Tuesday). Then we can start telling people! Can't wait to see my grandparents' faces when we tell them they're going to be great-grandparents. Have planned to travel to them specially next weekend (after scan) to let them know face to face. After that I think we'll phone a few other VIPs and then succumb to the inevitable Facebook post.

Is anybody else the first in their main friendship group to get married / have a baby? I love my existing friends but think I'm going to have to find some new mummy friends... hopefully more local than my friends from school and uni who all live at least 25 miles away.
