Thanks Daisie. It's stopped now. Hopefully that's it. No reason was given, just it happens sometime and they would not be able to see much at 6 weeks when the scan next Thursday is at 7wks 1 day.

Claire, we had IVF so I phoned the clinic where we had the procedure. They are very good so I do trust their judgment. I just wish I could have that extra reassurance. She said to go to my local A&E or to them if something changes, like if it gets worse or I get bad pain.

It would be useful to know how common spotting in pregnancy is.

Ah ok, sorry I thought you meant your 12 week scan.

In that case as awful as it is its probably worth waiting for the scan and not bringing it forward because you want to be able to see a heart beat and a scan at this stage wont show you that and so wont reassure you.

Spotting in early pregnancy is very common according to dr google. :)

T2D, I was not cramping when the spotting occurred but had mild cramps for the last 2 weeks.

  • Oh, Peonie! *big hugs* I know it's easy to say, but try not to worry, take heart that it's stopped now. Next time don't be afraid to head straight down to A&E, they will really look after you and sort you out a scan at your Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic (this is what mine did when I had a bleed at 6 weeks and they scanned me two days later). Maybe try chasing your IVF clinic for a scan? I am quite frankly amazed they've not offered you a scan to provide you some reassurance - a happy, calm Mum is what is best for baby after all.

Either way, in the mean time try and relax tonight - I know it's so much easier said than done.

Miss_I did you have bleeding too? Is it surprisingly common it seems. I'm not sure I want to ask dr google about it too much.

For some reason I cracked today and did random afternoon test. Nice quick strong bfp, so hopefully Mondays spotting was just a blip.

Peonie, I've got a scan next week too. Fingers crossed for us both.

Also hopefully the next long term TTC group will start to show up soon. :) RG will be close to testing by the end of next week. Very exciting!

I certainly have had bleeding! I have spotted pretty much constantly since the day of my first missed period (23rd Dec) and I will be 12 weeks on Friday. I have had a couple of bigger bleeds too - although the doctors say they're pretty minor given they didn't fill many pads - one at 6w 4d and one at 9w 4d. I had scans after both; baby absolutely fine and doctors couldn't give an obvious reason for it but said that some women do bleed throughout pregnancy! I'm having another scan at the EPAC on Friday as a midwife I spoke to earlier in the week regarding a different issue (being Rhesus Negative) wants to have me checked over because of the bleeding I've had.

But yes, some bleeding seems to be quite common! Not necessarily "normal" but a lot of people seem to have it. Most people at my jobs now know and a surprising number have said they've had bleeds or know people that have had bleeds in their pregnancies! So do not lose faith just yet - I'm trying not to. :)

Peonie, I've just had a thought. As you're around 6 weeks it might be your implantation bleed?

  • Doesn't implantation bleeding occur about 8 days after ovulating?

Peonie that must be so scary. I hope it stays away.

I can't believe how many women this happens too.

Oh ladies I am feeling really weird this morning. I dreamt last night about being in labour. This was my first pregnancy related dream.

I woke up feeling really freaked out and confused and realised....I do NOT think this is real! I have been completely just feeling like this is temporary or imaginary or not real in some way. It is so strange. Maybe it will feel real if we see something on the scan next week. Or maybe I feel so weird about it because it is NOT real and something is going to go wrong/has already gone wrong. Who knows.

Should have my first mw appointment today - after it was cancelled last Friday. Really worried about being weighed and told off for being obese. I'm sure I have gained weight already since being pg...which is not good! I am just struggling to fancy healthy foods and only seem to be able to stomach starchy things. Plus I have been way too exhausted, dizzy and nauseous to exercise. Eek. I am bracing myself to get told off :(
