Glad everything was ok in the end Pidge!!! What a worry.

I'm literally counting down to Thursday so I can ring the midwife. I know I shouldn't wish time away but I just really want to get to the scan so we can see our little one and tell our family and friends.

So glad everything is ok Pidge_Jen, that must have been mega stressful - rest up and take it easy!

Firebird, you try and relax too! Definitely easier said than done, but as others have said - all those non-symptoms are actually symptoms! That's what I've been telling myself :o

My scan date has come through for the 24 November, which isn't too far away! The only thing about not telling anyone is that I think I want to talk to some of my friends about the scan/screening options. I know I need to do what is right for me, but what is 'usual'?? Any thoughts?

Hey poddle just de-lurking to say I think it's pretty normal from people I've spoken to to have all scans and screening. Some people decline screening because they know it wouldn't change their decision to continue, however others still feel that but do have screening because they at least want to know. Plus of course for some it would change their decision.

You do have to do what's right for you, and as I say a good number do decline, but I'd definitely say "normal" or "usual" is to have it all.

EDIT: I would also add if you do chat to people it's a very emotive subject, so can both help and hinder. People can have very strong views...so be warned.

  • I've had the same thoughts Poddle - I actually spoke to my Mum about it, who told me what she did. I don't think it's appropriate to start talking ethics on here, so I won't :) I do however think it's worth discussing with your partner what you would or wouldn't do if the results went one way or another. I expect that will help to clarify your position/decision. Good luck!

    Hi all,
Thanks - still feeling rough but relieved. I'm still worrying about lots of little things so it's easier said than done. Currently munching on the ginger biscuits for the ever present nausea
I think I'm gonna take all the screening. I was quite surprised by how much choice there was. Forewarned is forearmed and all that jazz I guess.
Hope everyone is doing ok, and Penguin, glad they took it well :)
    Xx

Glad you're OK pidge_jen, sounds so stressful. I came to the conclusion last week that medics are used to crying pregnant women. It's amazing how much you can love something that's so tiny and you've never met isn't it? Make sure you relax and put your feet up.

Thanks Cats and Firebird for really good advice. I'm definitely aware of how emotionally (and ethically) sensitive is - and my midwife is so brilliantly neutral I just didn't have any sense of what to expect. I've got a few weeks to decide.

Currently just eating all the time - either to fend off nausea or because I'm starving. Hopefully this will settle down and I can get back into a healthy routine before I get huge!

  • Just popping back in - I wanted to have the screening done but they couldn't get the NT measurement at the 12 week scan so gave me a form to have the quadruple test blood test - decided not to bother because after I'd seen the scan it was even more of a person so I wouldn't have done anything regardless of the results. My 20 week scan results all looked good so fingers crossed our bean is a healthy one - the way he wriggles around feels like he should be :P

Well I can say with certainty that the pregnancy fatigue and almost constant nausea has officially settled in :D:eek:
Any tips on dry food to nibble that's not too bad? Rich tea biscuits maybe? I'm thinking I need to swop hobnobs out haha!
