  • I have been trying to ring the midwife service to make my booking in appt for past 3 days but all I get is voicemail. It's a mobile no and it says to leave message and she will call back within 20mins unless she is on leave.

I have left a message each day but had no response.

There is an added complication that due to where I work I am not allowed to take my phone into the building, I can only use it during lunch but I asked them to call me back during my lunch hour and gave times.

Do I keep trying or ask GP for a different number? This is my first so I have no idea!

Good luck with the scan Toots. I'm sure it will be great :)

Skint, I hope you're feeling better soon. Sickness sucks!

I think it's normal to be nervous about the scan. I sure am. At this stage we can't feel anything from the little beans inside us and it feels like a lifetime before you get to see the little monkeys on the screen and get the reassurance you're after.

Flutterby - I would call the GP and ask for another number. Explain what you've said to us. They must surely have more than one contact number! Good luck!

I came home to a letter from the GP last night, saying I needed to call and arrange a telephone appointment with the doctor about my 'Urinary MC&S' results. So I managed to call before they closed and am expecting a call from the GP at some point today. Quite nervouse as a google search shows it could be anything from a simple UTI, to a kidney infection or a bladder infection. I'm hoping that, as they sent me a letter rather than call me, it is not urgent and is just a UTI. Hope I don't have to wait long for a call either. A lot of the symptoms that could come with any of them, I've had as normal pregnancy symptoms. Or maybe they weren't. How on earth am I supposed to tell???

  • Euro that definitely sounds to me like the testing has picked up a mild uti or something - if it was a kidney infection or something more troublesome then I'm sure they would have called you so try not to panic - easier said than done I know. Let us know how you get on.

Flutter definitely see if you can get another number - I had the same panic and they gave me 2 numbers and left messages on both. Someone did call me back though and they were really helpful.

Skint I keep getting the watery mouth too which makes me think I'm going to throw up but I never do (yet anyhow). The joys!

Hope everyone has a good day x

  • Im currently sitting with an empty styrofoam coffee cup which I've been spitting into all morning. IT. IS. GROSS. Thankfully Im the only one in the office for the rest of the afternoon, but Im just producing so much spit that I have to get rid. Yeesh! Horrid!! Everytime I spit I have to stop myself gagging. When will I start glowing?? Because at the moment, glowing I am not!! Haha!

I saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks too, but im naturally a very pessimistic person and am absolutely convincing myself I will be receiving bad news at my 12 week scan....it's awful isn't it?

Well, GP has just called. Seems the culture was positive, ie, it grew a bug. But I have no symptoms, and there were no red blood cells in the sample, and only a very small amount of white cells in the sample. That combined with the bug they found also being a known skin contaminant, he thinks my sample just got contaminated by skin contact when I provided it.

So, no action at the present time. If I develop symptoms, or am worried, I can provide another sample and they will test again to be sure.

Thanks both. After another frustrating day of getting voicemail every time I could try the midwife finally rung me back this evening! She did apologise, she had been on leave and only came back to work today. So I am meeting her on Weds for a chat and then have my booking in appointment the day after as she is having an operation and will be off for two weeks.

I gave back my ticket for my xmas do today and got the money back so that will go in the B fund. Not told my colleagues I'm not going yet tho, will probably use the emergency on the day excuse!

I am still petrified that I will have a miscarriage, I had one in May and I'm the same stage now, and I'm not sleeping very well at the moment. There's not much I can do about it though.

I don't feel pregnant which is weirding me out too. But from what I've googled that's not unusual for 5 wks.

  • Gelly - SOOOOOO pleased for you!! Everything crossed for your rainbow xx

Euronorris - I have had a contaminated sample before. Hopefully that is all it is for you.

I had a real sicky feeling weekend last weekend but not too bad this week (just cursed myself there no doubt!). 10 weeks tomorrow, double figures, a quarter of the way!

I too am now worrying that there won't be a heartbeat at the 12 week scan despite seeing one at 8+3. I was like this last time, worried all the way until about 18 weeks when I got stretch marks and decided that the baby must be growing, then when you can feel kicks its a bit more reassuring. In fact I worried to 42 weeks last time and decided I would worry less when the baby arrived...little did I know thats when the real worries start!

Hope everyone else is doing well. My scan is 2 weeks today, though I think it has gone fast so far, I'm hoping the next 2 weeks fly by!
  • Hi Ladies, sorry not been on much as feeling quite under the weather. So pleased for you Gelly, fingers crossed this is it for you.

I am feeling so anxious, our 12 week scan is on Tuesday and the last time i got this far we found the baby had Edwards syndrome, what followed was a few weeks of agonising decision making before it was taken out of our hands. We have been offered a cvs but it is invasive so want to leave it and only take it up if we seem as a big risk through the nuchal screening.

The 12-24 thread is so quiet!

We had a mc in June so when it came to our 12 week scan we decided to go in with the mindset of "it's either good news or bad news, nothing we can do to alter the outcome" which as horrible as it sounds was quite comforting. Luckily for us everything was fine (twice as fine!) but it was a great way for us to relax during the seemingly endless wait to be seen!

At my booking in appointment the midwife explained about a new test they can do on your blood, rather than the rather invasive CVS test. It's not offered on the NHS though. So you'd have to pay for it privately and your blood gets sent off to the US I think. It's around £500 I think (possibly more), but poses no risk to the baby.

I have a leaflet for it at home somewhere. I can scan it on and post it on here later if you'd like?

Here is an NHS link about it: http://www.nhs.uk/news/2013/06June/Pages/New-Downs-syndrome-blood-test-more-reliable.aspx

And I think this is the company that do it: http://www.fetalmedicine.com/harmony-test

It is expensive, but I just wanted to put it out there as an alternative if it is affordable for you.

Fingers crossed all is wonderful and you won't need it xxx
