Sunshine - we got a short notice one at Surrey Park Clinic in Guildford. It wasn't the cheapest one I've seen (£125!), but they could squeeze us in today, which was what we needed.

babyb - it was an external scan. To be fair, we couldn't really see the eyes as such - just the eye sockets, but the sonographer was really reassuring, pointing everything out to us, so we could see it. She even turned on the colour to show us the blood flow through the baby and the umbilical cord. We were in there about 30 minutes, so had plenty of time and didn't feel rushed at all, and then went back into the waiting room whilst she prepared the report and pictures. We got a 2 page report and 4 pictures each in individual cards to keep. One even has the scan picture and the heartbeat picture (the graph bit if you know what I mean!)
We had a private scan at 7 weeks with our son (because we'd previously had a MMC), and we didn't see anywhere near the same level of detail. I find it amazing that even by 10 weeks, everything is in place, it just has growing to do! I mean our bean is 4cm long, yet we saw so much!

On a side note, with my son we had a heart scan at 20 weeks, and although they told us his heart was the size of a thumbnail, we could see all 4 chambers of the heart, and valves in amazing detail. The scanners that are available now are incredible in the amount of detail.

sexymouse - we will also have the downs screening done when we have the 12 week scan on the NHS, but they weren't able to offer that today (too early). I can't wait for my NHS scan again though, just to see baby again! I nearly cried in the scan today with relief that everything was OK!

We've told direct family, but I'm not telling work till after my scan, and probably not until I've had notification that I'm definitely no longer at risk of redundancy. Phone call was just to double check what they did with me last time as I don't fit their boxes, so I have to test my sugars the week before my scan, at least I have my date now 17th Nov, my half birthday ☺ still terrified it may be twins though!

Sorry if Tmi but have developed an orange discharge - it's not constant and doesn't show when I wipe but is puzzling me. No brown or red but not sure whether to call the midwife or Dr. I can't really find a definitive answer online so I guess I will have to call one or the other about it.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Update: called the maternity triage and they said it can be hormonal changes and all sounds completely normal which is good news. :)

Glad the scan went well Lolly! Sounds amazing!

We're going to try and hold out until the NHS scan at 12 weeks, as we want to save all the money we can for baby stuff and covering my maternity leave as I will only get SMP, which is a bit pants as I am the main earner.

Sexymouse, I'm glad that triage were able to reassure you. I'd never heard of that before, so I can understand why you'd be concerned.

Lemon, I'm glad it turned out not to be serious. And exciting that you've got your scan date now! :) Fingers crossed you escape the redundancy cuts too! Have you had any symptoms that make you think you might be carrying twins? Are there any differences I wonder? Would be interesting to know.

The nausea has mostly stayed away for me. Am 6+1 today, so am hoping it stays that way. I felt really rubbish on Monday, but I'd had some cramping on Sunday evening and Monday morning so I think there must've been a little internal growth spurt that sucked out all my energy! lol I've also been going to be earlier and earlier. Average is now 9.30pm, but even by then I'm knackered!

Does the sore boob and nipple thing ease off at all? Mine are agony, and are now really uncomfortable in bed! :(

The sore boobs does tend to ease off a bit in the second trimester but is more prominent in first pregnancy as the breasts undergo lots of changes in preparation for potentially feeding the baby. In subsequent pregnancies they have less changes to make as the milk systems are in place. My boobs grew massively the first time but haven't changed at all yet and I was really hoping they'd get bigger as I'm small. Mine have itched a bit so must be growing slightly. I went from 34B to 38DD last time but I'm now slightly smaller than my original size.

Well done staying up that late - I normally head up to bed about 8 and I'm asleep by 9 as long as Ds is asleep. Luckily DH puts him to bed

Oh man, 6 more weeks of really sore breasts! lol

I'm already on the ample size at 36D, so I dread to think how big they are gonna get. I think I'm probably already more like an E already, as they have definitely increased in size. I need to get measured properly really, but was wondering if it was best to leave it a while still as they may get bigger again.

8pm? Sounds like heaven! I did that on Saturday, and didn't get up until 9am on Sunday either! lol

I am finding myself in bed earlier and earlier every night! Last night was about quarter to 9 but I am not sleeping through the night so find myself knackered in the mornings. Can't wait for a long lie this weekend.

My boobs haven't grown, aren't sore either. I have hardly any symptoms. Was saying that to the midwife yesterday but she said I should be grateful which I am but does make me worry a bit more. My biggest symptom is spots! I had a lovely spot free face before pregnancy :(
  • euronorris- I have the same issue my boobs are already a 36G and they are even bigger now, I really need to get to M&S and get some new ones.. literally spilling out and so painful!

I am 7 weeks today.. I have just been to the drs who did my blood pressure and asked our preferred hospital which luckily we had already discussed. I managed to get a midwife appointment this afternoon (she is only in the surgery on Thursdays) so hopefully all will go well, all this talk of early scans is making me want one just so I know all is okay at this time, I still have the cramping to the left abdomen, I will mention it to the midwife later on.

  • Lemon glad all is ok with you x

OMG the boobs... mine are so sore today, tingly and spilling out... I also can't stay awake past 9pm much to the amusement of my OH!

I keep wanting an early scan as well but OH isn't keen - he just thinks we should persevere and wait for the NHS one. Am just going to see how anxious I feel, I feel ok today about waiting but that may change with symptoms.

I also keep breaking out in spots which is horrible as I am really into my skincare regime etc and nothing works with these hormones. Oh well, a few spots are so worth it :)
