I've told my parents, and one of my sisters because I was already talking to that sister about the whole TTC process (she's had two little girls in the last 4 years, so had recent experience). DH has told his Mum and step dad. And I told my boss cos I knew she'd understand, and I wanted her to have a heads up if I had morning sickness or any other issues. And that was supposed to be it.

But...I'm so excited I caved and told two of my close friends. One lives in Australia and recently had a baby herself, so I knew she could keep it to herself, and the other is my closest friend and I just couldn't keep it from her.

I'm rubbish at keeping secrets like this. I get too excited. I do the same with people's birthday gifts! I know they'll really enjoy it and I want to see that reaction so I cave! Ridiculous! I'm a grown woman! lol

I've managed to resist telling anyone else at work or in the family though! lol

    Welcome Vanilla.

Hope everyone is feeling well today. I had my flu jab this morning, and have succumbed to my impatience and we are off for an early pregnancy scan this afternoon. Fingers crossed all is OK!

We've told parents and I have also told a couple people at work as my department is about to go from a 3 person to a 1 person so my boss is going to have to do something about that! I posted earlier on that my colleague has been diagnosed with breast cancer and her last day was yesterday, possibly for 6-9 months and I will be away in May.

Had my booking in which was long but glad it to have it done. I had a low blood platelet count (thrombasthenia) when I was younger so midwife a wee bit concerned about that but hopefully my blood comes back fine. Now I just need to wait for my 12 week scan date.

I'm home. All was great, thank you euronorris. Only 1 bubba in there (phew!), and measuring at 10+5 (I'm 10+4 based on LMP), so bang on track.

The sonographer was great, and showed us hands, feet, heart, head, eyes...fab! And baby was bouncing around all over the place! I'm feeling so reassured and relieved, I've been worrying a bit over the last couple of days as I've been feeling a bit of cramping and my sickness has eased. Whilst I (rationally) know that with no other symptoms, it probably doesn't mean anything, my irrationality was starting to get the better of me.

MancMama - we have told parents, siblings and a couple of close friends, as well as our respective managers. We basically took the view that we would tell the people we would tell if we had a problem. It really is a very personal thing though. I know some friends didn't tell a soul until 12 weeks, others told everyone!

lolly so glad to hear your scan went well, sounds absolutely amazing!!! I can almost hardly believe that will be me and OH in a couple of months... wow.

lulu best of luck in the next thread and with your beautiful 2 babies.

Thank you all for the feedback on telling people - I have told my manager and it went great - mainly so I can have any time off needed for appointments etc. He was so excited for us!

Seeing my parents and siblings tomorrow for a family meal but I'm not going to say anything just yet... I think I like having the secret just between us for another week or two at least... might wait until booking in and when I'm officially "in the system" let them know.

Is it weird I keep forgetting and then remembering?! It's like getting a BFP all over again. Still hasn't sunk in haha!

Glad the scan went well lolly - looking forward to mine next week though not the blood tests (decided to get the downs screening etc). I'm making the most of my DS's nap and will hopefully have one myself in a minute with my guard-cat (he always guards me when pregnant).
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

  • Great news on the scan Lolly, do you mind if I ask where you went in the end? I've got one booked for 8plus 5 but not sure if I'll be able to wait that long!

We have told a few close friends who knew we were TTC and I have told my PA at work so she can help cover for me but that's it. Plan to tell the parents and siblings if all goes well at the early scan as I think/hope I'll feel a bit more secure about it then. It's my parents first grandchild and I know they'll be ridiculously excited, just not sure I could cope with their disappointment as well as my own if anything did happen. I think I'll tell my boss next week, I'll be 6 weeks by then and will start to need time off not long after for appointments etc.

Was a bit worried this morning that my boobs felt less sore but then I gagged brushing my teeth so (bizarrely) that made me feel better! Boobs seem to be back to normal levels of soreness now too.

Hope everyone is doing ok x

Lolly - can I ask whether that was an internal or external scan? You seem to have been able to see so so much, I didn't think that eyes/hands/feet would be big enough to see - we certainly didn't get to see them but then it was very quick in and out.

We have now had 2 private scans, one at 6+5 and one at 10+1. The 6+5 gave me more worries than reassurances. The 10+1 helped as we saw and heard the heartbeat but I am already getting nervy again and cannot wait for my official NHS scan. I need to relax I know, but can't help it! After 11 months of TTC I am v pessimistic about the whole thing!

MancMama - we told parents and siblings around 6-7 weeks, mostly due to a family event that came up and I knew we wouldn't be able to hide it. We told more ppl after the 10 week scan but again that was because it would've been too obvious at certain events with me not drinking!

Lemon - hope you managed to speak to the midwife today and its all ok
