It never occured to me to be worried about discrimination at work, although I do think that having been on maternity leave ended up delaying my promotion, despite my employer being very "family-friendly". I had no worries over job security though, and don't this time. I've already told my boss and a couple of co-workers due to the nature of my job (lab-based)
Things are very quiet at work. I've been without a full time project since April and apparently there's no new projects until January (which is 4 weeks before my maternity anyway). The word on the street is that management don't want to make redundancies because we have so much work coming in 2016 that we will need to hire. But it's still a worry for me. I don't trust employers; I've seen too many people place false loyalty in them.0 -
I told my Manager at 12 weeks last time but as I had a miscarriage before I was reluctant to tell anyone else in the office, nobody noticed until I was almost 22 weeks, and only because I was online looking at prams on my lunch. The woman laughed and said your not pregnant are you? and when I said yes and told her that I was over half way there her jaw dropped.:p she had been sitting beside me the whole time and not noticed. I was showing by that point but with the right clothes nobody noticed.;)
I hope to do that this time too. I don't really like to be the centre of attention and the thought of people watching me get bigger and bigger and worse making comments about it is not my idea of fun!
I would however just your Maternity policy at work. There is usually a bit that says you have to tell them you are by a certain time and then a different date later on that you need to state that you are taking Maternity leave.0 -
That's pretty restrained highland lass! I always said I would tell people as late as possible but in reality I'm bursting already and not even 8 weeks! I've told a few people and will tell my family after my scan. I had agreed to do heavy lifting and other work I won't be able to do so have said to them already but asked my manager not to tell other staff, will have to do the same with my other job soon because I need my first day back off for my scan.0

Hi all. Hope everyone has had a good week & glad it's the weekend (unless you are working of course!!) I've had to tell people at work as I'm a radiographer, and certain areas would be unsafe for me to work whilst pregnant, with radiation, magnetic fields & radioisotopes! I hoped to just tell my bosses, but as time has gone on, I've ended up telling nearly the whole of the department as there have been a few circumstances I could have been at risk (and people have been asking why I look like crap!)
I've had a bit of a rough week; when I had spotting a few weeks ago my doctors picked up I've got an irregular heartbeat, and it has been causing me problems. I've been getting really strong palpitations & dizziness, has been a bit worrying! I spoke to my GP who didn't really know what to suggest except to go to A&E if it got worse. I went to A&E on Wednesday, was seen pretty quickly but still don't really have any answers or action plans. They have referred me for some more tests & monitoring which will hopefully be done within the week, fingers crossed I'll get some advice following that. I was born with a hole in the heart, which was only found as my older brother had a lot of issues as a baby. It's never caused me any issues, so I'm not sure if it's that or just my heart struggling with the extra work! I was also told by the midwife that I will need to be referred to foetal medicine for the baby to be checked out for a heart condition, as both myself & my brother had issues. I'm trying not to stress...!
Other than that, my booking in with the midwife went well on Monday, and I had my 12 week scan appointment through the post today, on Tuesday 18th August, bang on 12 weeks from LMP. The midwife also told me to stick with my LMP date rather than my early scan for my EDD, as my scan dated me 6 days behind, and see what the 12 week scan measures at. That suits me fine!
DH & I are off to Ikea tomorrow, I redecorated one of our spare rooms a few months ago as we decided to change bedrooms (we've only lived here since Feb 2014 & hadn't really realised the other room is much lighter & pretty much the same size!) and had planned on spending a fair amount of money on some decent furniture. When we got our BFP we hadn't ordered it yet, so decided to go for a cheaper set! Hopefully it won't be too stressful, although hubby hates shopping with a passion, when I took him to Ikea for his first visit a few months ago, I was practically having to drag him out!!MFW 2016 #32 £1574.66/£1500:j:j0 -

Had our private scan this morning as OH can't come with me to our NHS scan... and all is well :j I did have to do some jumping to wake baby to get a wave but they put me forward 2 days to the 20th Feb and we got to hear the heart beat too. I am so so relieved that we appear to have a healthy and happy baby on board!
Came home and my 2 year old (who came with and sat beautifully, eating an apple) proceeded to tell OH about her baby sister... as neither us nor sonographer mentioned the word baby we got a little worried as don't want her spreading the news just yet. Think however, it is because her best friend at nursery has just had a baby sister who visited nursery this week.
And we got a new niece this morning too! So all in all a fabulous day0 -
Glad everything went well saffagal. Hope your little one doesn't put 2 and 2 together. A nursery teacher I know said one tot announced they were having a baby brother or sister, the staff member congratulated the grandmother - she didn't know her daughter was pregnant, oops! Sounds like she might have an in cling but not enough to work it out yet!0

Hi all - can I join
I got my bfp on thursday and according to a digital test am 2 weeks
Does that mean 2 weeks pregnant I.e 38 weeks to go or do they work it out differently based on period dates?
As my last period was 3 years ago I have no idea when I ovulated (I had the thing in my arm which came out on the 8th June and I didn't have a period before falling)I am a Mortgage Adviser

Congratulations haras_nosirrah and welcome!
Digi saying 2 weeks usually means 4 weeks pregnant as it assumes an approximate cycle of around 28 days; period, ovulation 14 days later, 2 weeks pregnant on digi another 14 days later.
sweetilemon, A may well have an inkling especially going on some of her behaviour a few weeks ago but I'm not too worried about her saying anything at nursery as I am the only one who collects her. We've planned to announce to family next Saturday as having a get together with OH's family and will msg to my family oversees. I have a shirt for LO to wear saying "I'm going to be a BIG sister" so plan to just have her wear that and see how long/ who notices.
Hope that everyone has a lovely week x0
