    Hi Cinny91 and Bean83!

My company is lame and I only get statutory of 6 weeks of 90% pay and then 39 weeks at £138 per week plus child benefit (not sure how much that is).

Since it's quiet at work I may as well get ye olde excel spreadsheet going and work out how much I need to put aside.

I'm in a lucky position because I have just come back from a work assignment abroad so I have a small nest egg. BUT I also have 0% credit cards which I will pay off before they expire. (Have been contemplating just paying off the CCs in one foul swoop but that would leave me with zero savings so firgured this was the best option? open to suggestions tho).

Baby stuff: so far planning for the only new things to buy will be a travel system and new mattress for the moses basket/cotbed. Everything else will be eBay/second hand. Probably ;) Seriously hoping that my friends and family will start giving me things when I announce I'm up the duff @ 12 weeks. Oh and clothes from tesco/sainsburys/primark etc.

Right going to start on my spreadsheet.

Also want to say that I love this thread/forum. I would feel very lonely without it.

Welcome and congrats to all the newbies! :) (especially floaty - hello fellow 12m+er!) xx

Our workplace isn't too bad, 8 weeks full pay then 18 weeks half pay plus SMP, then just the SMP until it runs out at 39 weeks. We've done a budget for the year which isn't too bad and I'm hoping the same as you japmis, that lots of people will give us things! :)

Rambosmum - have you peeked a look at the 12-24 weeks thread yet? Good luck for your scan tomorrow! We had ours at 10+5 which seem unbelievably early and such a long time to wait til 20 weeks. All the midwives seemed completely blase about the whole thing and just said "see you at 20". In my mind though, I'm screaming "you're just going to let me go off and do this by myself??? How do you know I can grow it???" Completely irrational thoughts I know. :o

    Hugs to you all xxx

My works mat pay is quite generous, I get 18weeks full pay then 33weeks stat after that. This time round we have the added cost of ds nursery fees but I still want him to go and will have to drop a day once my pay drops. I have an isa which is building up nicely. Last time I found I didnt really socialise ie groups etc until ds was 12weeks and I wasnt spending too much.

    welcome cinny and niptuck!

How great to get a bit longer on the full pay! i I don’t expect to need much money while off on maternity, I live at the beach 10 miles from nearest town and hoping to breastfeed so I expect to be home a lot at the start

love this thread such a lovely vibe, so far i am feeling great no symptoms at all....long may that continue :rotfl:

Japmis we get 82 something child benefit per month. How long would it take you to build savings up? I would prob pay some of cards off in one go then its out of the way.

Niptuck- I know im so grateful but its most needed especially with ds £500 nursery fees! We also live near the sea and I had lots of lovely walks with the pram :)

frozenpenguin, i also had my scan early, 10weeks, although I found the time flew in after it last time! i would say not to buy alot of baby clothes as we got tons of sleep suits etc and 2 of the same outfit as well!

I had exactly the same thought after my booking in appointment... what do you mean see me in 9 weeks?! NINE WEEKS!!

    :rotfl:

Yeh might pay off my smaller CC in one slug, minimuffin12, one less thing to worry about!:T

Just had a sneak peak at my mat leave, and I get a wopping 26 weeks full pay, then another 7 on the lower rate of SMP. Might use leave for the last part as I will have accrued 6 weeks worth by then anyway.

Rambsosmum, what time is your scan. Feeling nervous and excited for you!

Welcome Cinny and Bean. Something in the water at the mo as this thread is buzzing!!!

Do you new guys want to add your details to our list. I do love a list!

I have 3 less appts to attend this time and its kinda freaking me out. After my 20week scan I dont see mw until 34weeks which seems like a huge gap! Altho I do have to go to hospital at 30weeks for anti d injection.

Damn it just re-read the maternity leave policy and it's definitely 33 weeks SMP not 39
