Just worked out I need to save £4k if I want the full 12 months off.

    7 months to go.......

£571 a month needs to be stashed in the ISA to reach the target

Japmis - don't forget you also accrue annual leave while on maternity, so depending how many days you have and how your holiday year runs you may be able to take the last month as holiday. I'm planning to do that if I officially go back after 9 months, so I actually start back in January rather than December. Or I'll take some time unpaid and use all my leave in the new year to extend my return to work a bit further. Will wait and see how much leave I have at the time. I went back when my DD was 8 months as I only took 9 months leave and started it at 37 weeks but DD was 2 weeks late! This time I plan to work as late as possible, as 8 months really felt too soon but finances meant I had to go back.

I have just been trying to work out how much i need to save to take the full 12 months off, and it is around £2500. Definitely do-able!

Congratulations to all the new BFPs!! It doesn't seem 5 minutes since I widdled on a stick!

Scan on Friday and I am terrified. i keep waking up in the night with these horrible dreams that I'm having the scan and told there is no heart beat again.

It is so close to the end of term, but I am busier than ever with coursework marking, and the head of department keeps assigning us other things to do. Cannot wait for sleeeeeeep!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Welcome more new people! This is getting really busy now! I almost don't want to move over to the other thread. I'm 12+1 today and will move over tomorrow if all goes well.

If I want the full 12 months off I'll need another £2k plus using all my leave, but I don't think that's do-able, but we will see. If I could get the enhanced mat pay I'd be much better off- 6 weeks at 90% 18 weeks at 50% plus SMP (which would make it close to 80/ 90%) and then the rest at SMP- I'd be able to take the full 12 months off.

My scan is at 9.20, so pleased it's early I'm not sure I could cope with waiting all day, already don't think I'm going to sleep tonight.

I haven't had it in writing but a senior manager has told me I have a permanent job, which means I won't have to job hunt on mat leave, which is awesome :j

I haven't officially told them I'm pg yet (though manager knows) and I'm hoping not to have to until I get a perm contract through, but my work is so slow at such things I'm not holding out hope!

And for the person asking child benefit is £20.70 per week if this is your first child, if you already have a child under 16 it's £13.70 per week. And you don't get it/ pay tax on it if you or your partner earns £50k (not combined income).

That's £1076 per year for your first child.

I've also succumbed to the lure of maternity wear. My work trouser do up and I can cope in them but this week, as soon as I've got home I've had them off and pjs on. Which must be so sexy for the OH! So I pulled out a pair of mat jeans I bought off ebay ages ago and they are sooo comfy!

Good luck for the scan Rambosmum,

looks like lots of money saving mummies to be at the moment :)

so does anyone else do any fitness? i have been running for just over a year - was acutally training for half marathon not sure if that will be doable now but i went for a run with group last night and felt totally fine. everything i have read online is basically as long as you not starting anything new and take it easy...ie water, rest etc then you should be fine for continuing with running - so far so good for me anyway

I won't qualify for child benefit so I really need to get my financial act together ASAP. We can survive on partner's income alone (I think) but not sure how I feel about that being an independent woman (*cough*).

Good luck today Rambosmum..... see you on the other side in 4 weeks time :)

Niptuck I used to do loads of exercise (gym and yoga) but have done nothing for last 3 weeks as I nearly vommed on the treadmill (before I knew I was pregnant) and just the thought of down dog now makes me faint!

Flying to Amsterdam tonight, can't wait to sleep on the plane! :D
