Good news in the appointment devil dolly.

My booking went well although got upset when talking about miscarriage. They were lovely though and saying how I have to treat it as a completely new pregnancy . Just got to wait for scan letter in post now.

I had my first at 36, and now i'm 39 on my second. Pregnancy in the late thirties is really common now, and people are much healthier than they used to be in their 30's, so being 35 isn't necessarily something to worry about.

You may find one is faster than the other to process, worth a call to the hospitals to check. 3weeks sounds a long time to process an application though. They should be able to move you up the list for appointments, above the people who are earlier on.

Thank you for the advice. It might sound silly but it just didn't occur to me that I could call them. I did and it turns out three weeks is their max time and my letters were already in the post! First appointment with the midwife on 7th Nov, scan on 17th and another midwife appointment on 12th December. The appointments are all in different places which I thought was odd. Is that normal? It's two different hospitals and a children's centre all in completely different towns.

One question though, are you allowed time off work for this or am I going to have to use holiday (or is it different for different employers). I've not told work yet. I'll have to cancel some of my Xmas leave if I need to take holidays. The appointments are in the middle of the day and I live and hour and a half commute from work and the appointments are all about 30 mins from home so I'll be out for a good portion of the day for each one.

You are entitled to all your maternity appointments off with pay. My employers have always been ok about them (4th baby), I didn't take the mick, just went there and came back and tried to fit midwife appointments towards the end of the day.

Sebb - glad you got appointments sorted. You are entitled to time off but you have to tell your employer. It's annoying for me as I have an hour + commute to work so usually end up taking a whole afternoon off for appointments but they understand.

I think all places work differently with appointments. Mine are all with midwife at my drs surgery apart from scans which are at hospital. Also i will be having a consultant appointment at hospital.

Got my scan appointment all booked now. 17.11.10 in the afternoon. Absolutely dreading it. Wendz, I think I may be the same when talking about losses. The last couple of times I have been to the docs (once for extra folic acid, another for some bleeding) I got upset both times when having to explain my past, so will be worse with midwife I think. Trying to stay positive. This IS a difference pregnancy, but I guess we all worry what will happen, regardless of whats happened (or not) in the past.

Sebb, as others have mentioned, if work know, they need to give you the time. AFM, I am not telling anyone until I know whats happening, so just leaving work early or booking the afternoon off.

I know what the midwife will say though. I work in the chemical industry and sometimes (but safely) work with unknown compounds. She said last time I should tell them, but glad I didn't as things went pete tong, but will do what I did last time and avoid all these activities until I can tell them properly.

OH is a bit down at the moment. I think he is preparing himself for bad news which is making it really difficult to stay positive. I am trying not to think about things anymore that I absolutely have to. What will be will be......

On a completely different point - TMI alert - anyone else notice their pee getting a bit darker? I notice this sometimes and assume its because I am not drinking enough. I have switched from pregnacare to seven seas and feel 10X better, so wonder if this is the cause.

Well we had our scan today and everything was fine. Didn't take as long as I thought but we got a good "look around"! Our pics aren't amazingly clear but we know what's what! Gonna make the online announcement tonight - our closest friends and family have been told at various points already as we've already had 2 scans before today.

I'm gonna hop over to the other thread and look forward to seeing you guys over there soon

Lots going on, congrats to angelmommy and downhillfast on their scans, such a relief to see a baby in there after having to wait so long.

I had a car accident last night, not too serious my fault went into the back of another car, could have done without the stress/ lack of sleep. I am assuming everything is ok with our baby as no pain, blood etc our scan is next Wednesday.

We are telling close family and friends this weekend and then after the scan if everything is fine I will tell work and do the online announcement. Will feel great for it to be out in the open.
