Welcome fallen archer and huge congrats to you and your wife x

Thankfully the sickness has eased off daisiegg over the past few days so I think I should be one of those people who it goes for at 12 weeks (I hope) I'm thoroughly fed up of it by now so it must know it's outstayed it welcome! But I'm not going to begrudge the weight loss every cloud has a silver lining!

As for the notes I went at 8 weeks for my booking in and we went through the booklet together and I got to take it away at the end so I guess everywhere does it differently! I just had a look at those notes Miss I and they are totally different to mine so I guess each health authority must have their own?

    Huzzah for fellow shorties! :D

Purcy, how curious your notes are different! I assumed that mine were standard issue from the NHS across the country. As you say, each health authority must have their own. :) Glad to hear your sickness is easing too.

I wouldn't worry about the appointment being "early" Daisiegg - consider it a good thing they're putting you on the system early on and you're getting to see a midwife and have any concerns/questions answered. If I hadn't had my scare at the beginning of January, I wouldn't have had any info or contact from the NHS until my booking scan yesterday (at over 9 weeks), which would have driven me insane with the uncertainty and lack of contact from them. Part of the reason it would have driven me insane is the lack of pregnancy symptoms too; occasional tiredness, occasional sore breasts and the closest thing to morning sickness is random smells/brushing my teeth making me gag! I am considering myself very lucky though I'm not suffering from severe morning sickness, but I can't deny the lack of symptoms makes you worry! :p

Daisiegg, yes, I've been prescribed a higher dose of folic acid due to my high BMI (regardless of the fact I've been taking the standard dose religiously since August). I think she's prescribed 5mg dose, whereas I've been taking the standard 4mg dose. The midwife also prescribed me a general pregnancy multi-vitamin as part of this. Oh! And I need to pick up some Vitamin D too, although they don't do this on prescription. Oh! And after 12 weeks, I'll need to start taking aspirin as it's meant to help reduce the risk of pre-eclampsia - she had a chart on her wall and if you met two or more of the criteria, then it was recommended you take aspirin after 12 weeks - one of the criteria being high BMI, the other being a first pregnancy.

Welcome fallen archer, and huge congratulations to you both! :j

Now off to the grindstone, when all I really want to go is go back to bed and try to get rid of this tiredness. No such luck! :p

That is one thing I am worried about as I can't take aspirin....firstly because they don't advise you to take it if you are asthmatic so I have never taken any in my life, but secondly, the year before last I had an allergic reaction to ibuprofen (nearly died in an ambulance!) and after that they pronounced me allergic to all NSAIDs which includes aspirin. I guess there is not much I can do. My husband has a grown up daughter already, and her mum had preeclampsia and spent half her pregnancy in hospital. I guess if it happens it happens and we deal with it :(

Well I was up half the night with terrible diarrhoea (sorry, tmi!) I mean really bad - crippling pains and pretty much the entire contents of my body evacuating in liquid form :o I consulted dr google and apparently it is a really common early pregnancy symptom, although people do not discuss it as much as morning sickness! It was horrid though - I'd much rather throw up - so I hope it doesn't become a regular feature. I have decided to stay off work today...after only getting about 3 hours of very patchy sleep and spending the rest of the night in the bathroom, I'm so tired I feel dizzy if I stand up. I have said I have a stomach upset (technically true!) but in a few weeks I guess I will tell my boss about the pregnancy and then this absence won't have to go on my sickness record.

Oh, did another test this morning (I only have 3 left after this!) and the line is about twice as dark as the control line! :)

Hope everyone has a good day, and does not feel too tired/sick/unwell xx

Hi all, would love to join you all :) I did a positive preg. test on Friday - really wasn't expecting it to be positive, in fact I took the faint line on the first test as a negative!

I'm around the same due date as you daisiegg I reckon, my first day of last period was 29th December, had my IUI on 10th January and then tested on 24th Jan - amazingly got lucky on first go! I've had a few symptoms so far, mostly light cramps, and tender breasts, although I've also had nowhere near as much energy as normal either - feels so early to have symptoms but there you go. As I'm through a fertility clinic I have an early scan with them (booked for 17th Feb) and I've been advised to get a GP appointment for soon after that.

Such exciting times! Told my parents, sisters, in-laws and close friends on the day of my positive result - guess it's a bit different as we've been quite open our treatment: lacking sperm between me and my wife it's not as if we could accidentally fall pregnant :) Know it's early days, but if things didn't work out they'd be the ones I'd want to talk to anyway!

Need to control the urge to buy baby things - not good for moneysaving and far too early!!!

Welcome! The first day of my LMP was 27th December so we are very close to being date buddies :) congratulations to you and your wife! :D

If it's any consolation I am experiencing this too instead of vomiting. I used to suffer with IBS and it feels a lot like that with the stomach cramps. It freaked me out at first (the cramps) but apparently it's all normal. I am not suffering too bad apart from that, I feel a bit tired and I do get nausea in the afternoon but it sounds like I have got it easy compared to some of you ladies on here.

It is a consolation! Not that I am pleased you are suffering but it is very reassuring to know I am not the only one!
  • Welcome and Congrats FallenArcher :jI have actually given into the urge and already bought things :embarasse. But my excuse is that they was in the January sales in Mamas & Papas so it is actually money saving :D:D

Thank you for the pdf Miss_I, it is very useful to know what they will ask and consider these things before the appointment.

My first appointment at the GP's was a little different as it was my registration medical at that surgery with the nurse. I told her I was pregnant and she just asked if I was taking folic acid, which I have been doing for some months now. I am already prescribed Adcal D3 for vitamin D deficiency and she advised the midwife would check the level when they do my 'bloods'.

Last night was the first night I have slept all night since Xmas.

Unfortunately my breast are now very tender and my nipples are like bullets! Even showing through my slightly padded bra (sorry for tmi)

had a scare yesterday evening with some bleeding - not much and it had stopped by the time I noticed. Still I spent far too much of the night awake and worrying :( I have an appointment at the doctors this afternoon, and hopefully they will be able to sort out an early scan, or something. I'm feeling a bit happier now that there's been no more bleeding today so far.

Decided to tell my work colleagues, as I went in briefly this morning and bought home a very long document that I have to read by next Friday. DH is home looking after me and bringing cups of tea, and our cat is helping by sitting on me. Unfortunately she is the sort of cat that shows how happy she is by kneading, and right now she has just started kneading my boob, which is rather sore.

jen - even after I stopped bf'ing DS my nipples have stayed pointy. Most inconvenient - padded bras are essential!
    Welcome FallenArcher and congratulations x
