Got my scan at lunchtime, scared and excited in equal measure! Been awake since 5.30.........0

Well I've just got back from my GP appointment - I have to come on here straight away to talk about it as aside from my OH no-one else knows and I want to share the news
She didn't do much aside from take my BP and listen to my heart, asked about family medical history etc. Because of my irregular cycles she couldn't estimate DD so she said she would refer me for a dating scan and that I need to wait for them to get in touch with me, so hopefully that will be an early scan, fingers crossed! I also had to arrange my booking appointment with the midwife which will be on the 20th of this month, a lot sooner than I expected! I read that this should be between 8-12 weeks though and I think I'll only be 7 max, so I hope they don't turn me away and tell me to come back. Also, my OH is off that day and asked if he could come along - did anyone else do this with their OH?
Princess_kate wrote: »Missy I bought "what to expect when you're expecting" yesterday from asda, price on the back is £16.99 but it was only £8. It's a big book & also has info on how to look after the baby! I also keep doing tests, I find it reassuring to see the line again, today's test the test line was as dark as the control, much much darker than saturday. Have you been having any symptoms yet?I was ill Tuesday with a sore throat and fluey symptoms but that may be unrelated. I've also felt little bouts of nausea where I just feel a bit delicate, but I'm definitely not off food yet! What about you?
Good luck for your scan today Nicky and hugs to you Carrot.0 -
Hi been lurking but not posted AM 34. Had positive pregnancy test mid July after almost 3 years of trying first pregnancy. Due to very sharp pains right side, was sent by G.p. to hospital yesterday evening. After a 5 hour wait at maternity admissions, assessed and then scanned, all good and measuring 9 weeks plus one, though that will maybe change at twelve week scan.
All seems very surreal I think my husband will be more maternal than me he loves kids. I kind of feel I do not wasn't to overly talk about pregnancy ···· Am I crazy ! Completely stressed house been on market near year and fell through twice, not even sure how mortgage will work out now for bigger property or when we will ever get moved Also OH dad has terminal cancer and we only found out Wednesday has spread further.0 -
Is it normal to not see a GP or nurse until 10 weeks? This is apparently what happens where I live which to me sounds wrong.
Especially as I have a Hypothyroidism but when I called GP they said to contact the maternity ward and GP wont see me. When I called the Maternity ward they don't want to take my details for another 1.5 weeks (until im 6 weeks) then don't see me until im 10 weeks.0 -
Well that's both me and Mrs Splank happy
Just got back from the first scan and all appears well. Only 1 day behind where we thought, now at 12+3 rather than +4. Good strong heartbeat and good amount of movement.
We were to be assigned the same consultant/Dr as last time around, but after she really upset the wife regarding low PAPP-A results in the way she delivered the news (although not sure if it was the Dr who was harsh/could have worded things better OR if the wife was taken back by the news that low PAPP-A usually means most loose the baby before 26w and went a bit hysterical) we thought we would go with an alternative as there would always be that wary-ness about listing to her in the future. At least we are dealing with a clean slate this time around.
I did ask about the PAPP-A test this time, seems as though she wasn't really sure but suggested that it was a trial which has been stopped. Seems a shame as it correctly predicted the wife's last pre-eclampsia and was monitored for it more or less straight away. Unless the results they got were not that reliable and created to many false positives. We shall soon see!
I am moving up to the next thread now, hope to see you all over there shortly0 -

DH went to the booking appt with Dale, but he couldn't get off for the one for this baby, so my mom went. I'm really glad that she could go and was in town when we got our bfp for this little one on Dale's due date.
They will ask about family history for both sides, so it's actually better (in my opinion anyway) for your OH to go with you. Less to remember that way!
They won't tell you to go away and come back. The midwives here are swamped, so seeing women when they are exactly 8 weeks can be difficult. I was 7+3 with this one for my booking. Just means that I have to wait a bit more for my scan date (which is in 12 days! :j)0 -
Oh my goodness, in the last 24 hours my normally wobbly tummy has gone quite firm and has a definite bump shape, I know it's probably just wind as I am only 11 + 3 but it has made it all feel quite real :-) waiting anxiously for my scan on Wednesday, I suspect I may turn into a blubbering wreck once I see a picture of Jammy Junior! Still being sick lots but I think I am starting to feel less tired which is a relief.
hugs to all x0 -
Missy, I'm feeling tired but I've also had a manic week in work, feeling quite nauseous from when I get up until late afternoon & I haven't been eating much at all, just not fancying anything & can only manage a small amount when I find something I do want. Symptoms are just signs of change which is reassuring in a funny way. I can't wait for my scan on 21st, think that'll make it more real, everything feels like a dream at the mo!!0

For those looking to buy a pregnancy book I can't recommend 'Expecting Better by Emily Oster' enough. I bought it, 'what to expect' and 'pregnancy week by week' all at the same time- i'm one of those who can never have too much information. To be completely honest I think I read about 3 chapters (if that!) of 'what to expect' and 'week by week'. I found them quite blah and they just didn't appeal to me. The Oster book is written by an economist (sounds deathly boring but bear with me!) and she goes through the advice given to pregnant women, the rationale behind it as well as any studies that have been conducted on it so that you can make an educated decision rather than just being told what you can and can't do. It's really well written and didn't put me to sleep! The information in the other two books are easily available on the 'what to expect' website- which is a little creepy imo (the lady in the videos freaked me out...) and on the nhs parenting choices website.
