Hooray wangdoodle! So pleased for you x

Welcome floatylight hugs for the sickness, when I read about the ladies with HG it makes me feel grateful I'm only sick 5 or 6 times a day! I can't imagine how awful it must be but I hope it doesn't last as long for you this time x

Hugs for the crummy treatment you received any name especially with your history I'm amazed they're not taking better care of you, let us know how your scan goes won't you I'm pleased they were so nice and managed to squeeze you in, at least someone has a heart!

AFM got my scan date through for the 6th of Feb hoping time flies until then!

    hugs to all x

    I am truely shocked.

Despite my history of miscarriage, the medication I am taking as recommended by the miscarriage clinic, and the fact I have had pain and bleeding, my midwife couldn't (wouldn't) refer me for an early scan. In fact, she encouraged me to book privately saying lots of women need that reassurance. I am sure they do, but surely I am presenting with enough risk history.

So, I am waiting for the private clinic to ring me back, they are fully booked but trying to squeeze me in somewhere.

I am not really sure she was listening to me anyway, she was more concerned witht the fact she was running late, and I had only been booked a half hour appointment instead of the hour I should have been. I did try to explain that may have been because the GP wanted me seen early and the receptionist had squeezed me in, in fact I couldn't take the appointment at 6 weeks because I was away. She said 7 weeks isn't really very early for a booking in appointment as they usually do them 8-10 weeks.

    And that was that.

Thankfully, I am booked in with the other midwife (who I know from previous pregnancies and miscarriages) next time as the one today is on leave and I going to ask if I can switch over to her care.

sorry to ask but how many mc have you had?

I was told (along with a few other ladies on the ttc and pg threads) that wed get a reassurance scan on the nhs which never materialised, but I have a feeling if I had pushed harder I might have gone one. Part of the reason why I didnt was because I was trying to fit it in with work and DHs work and so we could get a private Saturday booking.

If youve had more than 1 though I would have thought it wouldnt take so much persuading - I know youve booked privately now but you could always try to ring your gp and see if they will refer you.

The one good thing about going private though was we got a dvd of our baby at 9 weeks :)
  • I was planning coming on here tonight to be all bouncy and excited about our pregnancy, however the last few hours have made me rather drained.

Am currently 6+4. Pregnancy test was positive on Saturday, although to be honest I've known in myself for weeks, but didn't want to jinx it by testing "too early".

However, I took myself to A&E earlier this evening as I started bleeding quite heavily/passing some large clots. A couple of hours later, after much questioning, blood pressure test, urine sample, etc and an internal examination I'm back home under orders to rest and am having a scan at the EPAC on Friday morning. Cervix is currently closed, so Doctor says not to lose hope just yet and see what we find on Friday's scan. If we see a heartbeat, then wonderful, if we don't, then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. I'm hoping and praying we are one of the lucky ones, but given I'm still bleeding I'm not holding out much hope.

Sorry for dragging the thread down, but only DH and myself know about this pregnancy as we were planning on telling everyone once we were 12 weeks, and I just wanted to talk about it to someone outside of the situation.

sorry you're going through such a difficult time, I'm glad to hear that the doctor has taken good care of you and referred you up for a scan. I really hope your scan goes well on Friday and that the bleeding is just something random and harmless.
I know lots of ladies have graduated to the 12-24 week thread and have had bleeding so however scary it seems there is always hope.
Until then hugs for the uncertainty which is often the worst bit and try and rest and take your mind off things x
  • My lovely neighbour, who is a nurse and has recently had a baby, took me to the hospital- and everything is fine!

I have never had a scan when they have said that before!

We saw a strong heartbeat. She has measured me at 6+1, whereas I think I am 7+4, but this early, as long as it is within 2 weeks either way they don't worry as it is so hard to date. (this was a reassurance scan not a dating scan).

claire I have had 3 mc, and have been checked out by the recurrent miscarriage specialist earlier in the year.

The midwife I saw earlier said she couldn't refer me for a scan as only a consultant could do that. I know that is not true, as I was referred to the EPU previously by a midwife at the same practice. I was too emotional to be assertive with her though.

interestingly, the lady who did my scan at the private hosptial used to work for the local NHS hosptial, and she was mouth-hanging-open horrified when I told her. The local hosptial has a pathway for ladies who have had three consequtive early pregnancy losses of two weekly scans until 12 weeks- so my midwife got it really wrong today.

Tomorrow I will ring the EPU myself and ask what I need to do next.

    Any name that's brilliant!!

Your midwife sounds like she's taking rubbish. After 3 you are entitled to extra support which I'm sure should include scans. And I can't believe she couldn't refer you!

OH and I are still quite nervous about the whole thing, and it's still very early days, but thankyou, we're over the moon. I didn't get a DVD, but I did get four photos of my little blob!

I have no idea what was going on with the midwife, tonight I am too tired after such an emotional day to think about it. I do think I need to take OH or a friend to appointments from now on, to help me speak up for things!

Miss_Imaginative- sorry to hear you had such a horrid day, but as percy81 said, I am pleased you got such good care from the doctor. I am keeping everything crossed for you xx

Oh well we did pay £100! I couldn't find anywhere cheaper near me.

Pity you don't get DVDs at the 12 week when they look more like a baby!

Many thanks for your hugs and kind words, purcy81, it is much appreciated. :) I'm quite impressed with the doctors to be honest, I was half expecting to be told to get a grip and go home! But the treatment I was received yesterday was brilliant and the staff at the hospital really looked after me. I've been told to rest today and tomorrow, so no work for me. Feeling somewhat guilty given it's my first week of a new job. :o

That is somewhat reassuring to know that lots of women have progressed further into their pregnancies after bleeding - you just automatically assume the worst, don't you?? As you say, nothing more I can do now is try not to worry and rest up. A day of reading/lounging on the sofa it is then! Thanks again for your support x
