Birdie, my NCT class said once your term you can do all the things you were meant to avoid earlier in case they started labour. This included using the tens machine, nipple stimulation, aromatherapy, reflexology, etc, as well as being relaxed as you're less likely to begin labour when stressed. I like the thought of aromatherapy/reflexology and I bet they're relaxing. :)
I'm surprised to hear that the NCT is advising against nipple stimulation during pregnancy given that rules out breastfeeding through pregnancy. I'd also be interested to know if there is any evidence as I wasn't able to find anything that showed it to be a risk.

Great bargains there Becs! I'm hoping my friend is quick to TTC after getting married in June as a) I want a playmate for my little one and b) I know they don't have a lot of spare cash so will be happy to pass on our stuff instead of storing it all! :)

Thanks for the tips, I don't like pineapple though so that's out. MIL swears by castor oil and says it brought on her first baby but OMG, how did she even swallow it without throwing up all over the place?! Will try the nipple stimulation and TENS machine, can't hurt. Trying to stay calm and relaxed... must watch some nice weepy movies this afternoon rather than anything too scary! ;)

  • Came in to work rather happily thinking it was this week and three more to go only to look at my plan for the next few weeks and read it is this week and four more :(

The longer it takes to come round the more excited I am about the prospect of not having to come in every day. I really do enjoy my job but...I don't know just lately I'm not as motivated in the mornings to get here and get cracking as I used to be :/ My hours are 9-5 but if I start early I can head off early so I used to try and get here for around 8.30 and work till 4.30ish then head home but this past week or so it's almost like something is putting me off coming in.

I think it may be because I know someone is covering for me whilst I'm off and as she has started I'm less motivated in general...does that sound completely ridiculous?

Not at all lush My replacement hasn't even started yet and I just can't get motivated to work as well as I used to, I'm googling baby stuff all the time instead!

I found it super difficult to get motivated from about 4/5 months in Lush! :o Luckily my manager put it down to baby brain and wasn't too harsh on me! :p

  • Thank goodness it's not just me SmlSave and Birdie!

I am planning on coming back to work after 6months (with a change of hours from 5 to 4 days per week) as I would go crackers at home full time and can't really afford not to work. I don't mind being a working mum as I know bf will be home every afternoon except Mondays (when I plan on being off anyway) and I get bubs to myself on the weekends and evening whenever bf is at training camps/tournaments etc. But with bf aiming at Rio and countless other international tournaments I would love to be able to go to and take baby to watch it's not a cheap life and even if my income was just to pay for that stuff it would still need to be minimum what I'm on now if not more!
I have been asked to apply for another job which would be £4000 more per annum for 3 or 4 days but its in another city (not a major commute but longer than I have now) and I would get health insurance etc as I do now but it is in sports/team development so I could really get in there and start making waves ...swings and roundabouts I guess.

Just hoping this isn't a sign of how I'll be once baby is here and I won't want to come back to work. I love my job because I'm normally excited to come in and get cracking, even on eth mundane tasks and I'd hate to lose that. Equally I know if I became a SAHM I'd become a real hermit and quite happily make no mummy friends and live a rather isolated life until baby goes to school.....argh what is wrong with my brain?!

I'll spare you the gory details but make sure you keep drinking throughout labour as I ended up dehydrated and had to leave the birthing pool at 10cm dilated as we were both at risk. My contractions slowed down and I need the hormone drip to get them back again. This meant that it took a lot longer than it should have done and I was exhausted by the end. So my one tip is, keep drinking!!

    Adorable baby!

Good point as I went into shock (zoning out, non stop shivering, clammy skin and vomiting) due to being dehydrated. TENS took me to 6cm! I was so glad to get rid of it tho. The tingling on boost mode annoyed me.

Thanks ladies - he was 9lbs. I feel ok. Slightly wobbly on my feet and having lots of hip pain so mainly sofa bound. I'm glad to be home with no issues at all.

    Con888 - I got mine from sports direct. £2.99 I think
  • Following my issues with my replacement this morning I've just had to give my first disciplinary meeting!!! I was absolutely dreading it but I think it went okay... Thankfully if it happens again it's the big boss that has to do the firing, couldn't cope with that!!
I could blummin well do with a massive glass of wine right now!!!
  • Just noticed on the list that after Birdie there's no due dates for two weeks! Wonder if there'll be a lull after a bit of a rush we've had lately? Or whether some of the little ones will be along early!!
