Gosh, the weekend goes by far too quickly, a well, only 12 weeks left at work :)

I have a bit of a random question-I had a belly piercing done about 10 years ago and took it out about 5 years ago, yesterday it started being a bit sore and today it is quite uncomfortable and very red. Does anyone know if this is just down to stretching? I wasn't expecting anything like that to happen, especially as I haven't had a bar in it for years.

I've not started looking at nighties yet, so am interested to see where is the best value :) I also hadn't given any thought to what to wear in labour, aaaagh.

I got one for about £7 in the debenhams sale. I'd ideally like a water birth so will wear a bikini top for that.

Con could you watch the Winter Olympics on tv? I've been watching that in the mornings past couple of days x

I don't like the olympics much lol, but going back to work tomorrow anyways :) I never thought I would use THAT smiley with that sentence but be good to get a bit of a routine again. Work is stressing me atm though but not much I can do about it really.

I still have my piercing in (with a maternity bar) so not sure if it's down to stretching or not. However, mine has stretched ALOT these last couple of weeks (31 + 5 now) and has occasionally looked a little red. Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows more :)
  • Stsarina I've been ok this weekend, thanks for asking :) no more bad 'crampy' type pains. Just the general achyness and slightly uncomfortable belly but I think baby is growing so my belly this weekend, especially all the skin south of my belly button, feels SO stretched like it's about to tear!! It's such a weird feeling my belly feels so tight it's almost like I can't stand up properly!!

I have just opened a bag of Haribo (completely absentmindedly), eaten about 3, then realised my next midwife appointment is tomorrow and if I have another urine test that shows high sugar they might actually throttle me (the last time it happened was also ironically due to pre-appointment Haribo consumption....it's like my kryptonite). So I'm now sat on my bed staring out the bag of Haribo half hoping it will just spontaneously disappear because I don't think I'm strong enough to touch it without accidentally eating more......argh

  • Mrshappy and faith I have also had my belly pierced for about 12 years, and I had to take my belly bar out at about 12 weeks because I found it also got really red and angry, and at that point my belly hadn't really even started to grow - I wonder if it's something to do with hormones in pregnancy reacting to the pierced part of skin in your belly button.

So I completely took mine out, but I do put it in for an hour or so every other week because I'm paranoid about it closing up, even though after about 6 years they never heal up by themselves anyway (so the experts say).

Mine does seem to have been ok since I took it out though so it's weird that yours is red even though you haven't had a bar in for ages. Maybe just do some salt washes and see if that clears it up? Again it's probably just the hormones I expect, I tend to blame them for everything I can't explain :)

Con I am the same, I am not even enjoying my job at the moment but if I'm at home for more than a few days (like I was last week due to my hip) I get cabin fever!! Though I've just put that down to living at OHs parents at the moment - I hope once we move into our own place I'll be more happy being at home without feeling like I have to get up and go out every 5 minutes!!

I am loving the Olympics at the moment though :d

Thanks secret and faith, I've been slathering it with savlon cream and will try salt wash. If it doesn't settle I'll ask a midwife at work during the week-it's very handy being in the same building as them :)

Msa I thought the urine test was just for protein? So you should be able to eat your haribo :)

At one point when I was ill the only stuff I ate was sugary bits and I've never been tested or had anything come up about sugar?

    Hopefully someone else can confirm!

I think they might test for more than one thing as I'm sure they're also checking for infection. Twice they've sent mine off for further testing as their tests showed a possible infection but I had no symptoms and nothing was found. What was funny was right at the start I had symptoms of an infection and got antibiotics, but their dip test didn't show it. :rotfl: So I think symptoms are a more reliable indicator.

I've just googled and they test for ketones, sugar, protein and bacteria/blood cells (two indicators of infection).
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
  • Ethan arrived dramatically on the 7th.

Thursday 6th, I woke to wee as usual around 6am and found blood clots when I wiped. Looked in the loo and there was more. It was bright red and I remember thinking this is not right. I called DH, he brought my phone and I called labour ward. They said to come in bring my bags and they cannot say if I’ll still have a homebirth.

Got to hospital, had an examination and large clots came away in the consultant’s hand. Some quite alarmingly large. She said I was 2cm dilated and sent me to go walk the stairs for an hour. I wasn’t in any pain, didn’t feel anything. Went off, found breakfast, ate and walked. Came back and passed another clot almost as big as my fist! I was still fine and not in pain. She advised breaking my waters and starting labour via drip. The midwife suggested monitoring so I opted for monitoring. I was hooked up to CTG to monitor baby’s heart rate and my contractions. Heart rate was fine. I was contracting every 10 mins or so but didn’t feel it. 8pm, they came back and said I will be kept in and DH to go home so off I went to general ward.

Friday 7th – 5.15am ish, got up to go wee and fluid just leaked everywhere! Trailed me to the loo! Was told my waters had gone. 5.30am I started having lower back ache and numbing pains in both legs on and off till about 9am. The midwife said to time it and I needed 3 contractions each lasting over 45secs in a 10 min period before they can do a check. I kept having 1 or 2 lasting up to btw 1 to 2 mins in every 10 mins so I decided to have a bath. Didn’t quite like being in the bath as being on my back caused me more pain.

11.30am – I insisted on being checked against the midwife’s advice. I was 6cm dilated. Got wheeled to labour ward and hooked to CTG again cos of the bleed. Had meptide – made me slightly sleepy and pain bearable. Around 2pm pain went up lots of notches. MW tried to help me breathe through them. I was completely and utterly exhausted. She suggested epidural to help me rest and I agreed - I was 8cm dilated. Immediately the anaesthesiologist came, he got called to theatre so didn’t get it. At this point, I just couldn’t push anymore. MW checked and I was 10cm, I felt this incredible, indescribable and unbearable pain. DH said he could see the head and whenever I stopped pushing, it went back in. Next thing, I heard look at me! – I opened my eyes and there were about 9 people around. Apparently baby’s heart rate dropped from 140 bpm to 80 bpm and I was zoning out. Had 2 midwives on either side pushing back my hips and knees as his shoulders were obstructed and wouldn’t drop. I was asked if they could cut – I said yes, got injected, cut and he was born at 3.09pm!

Now, I’m going to go back and catch up!
