I'm so disappointed by how little paternity pay is. :( Just what you want when you've got a brand new baby- worrying about both of you earning diddly-squat! OH is taking 2 weeks but we're going to feel the pinch big time.
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

I know its bad isn't it. That plus the now reduced matenity pay I'm getting means there is no way he can take 2 weeks of it. He will just have to move his clients about or take hol but I appreciate we are in a very lucky position for him to be able to do that.

One of my friends is a teacher and really lucked out, her baby was born at the end of November, so I think her DH took 2 weeks off - which the school had just changed their policy on a few months before- so think he got like half pay or something, went back to work for about 1/2 weeks so full pay, then it was 2 weeks of xmas hols so he was off again!
  • My OH will get 2 weeks off at full pay, I hadn't realised how lucky this is. Work are v flexible about when he can take it, and he'll be using annual leave for a while afterwards. It's fairly likely the twins will have to stay in hospital for a few days so I'll be very glad to have him there.
We bought our furniture from Kiddicare, I've been impressed with their service. remember to use quidco for some extra £s back.

I used quidco but the money never came through so Ive had to fill in a claim form. Becsxx on here had the same thing happen.

    Has yours gone through ok?

    Regarding Tax Credits

I called up to see if we would get anything. I was advised to apply when baby is born because my income drop next year will be around 10k with maternity pay changes as I only get SMP. The advisor said something about SMP being exempt so with my partners lower income we would get some assistance. (He earns 23k)

Apprently there is a section on the form that asks what part of your income from 2014-2015 will be SMP and this is deducted or something. It may be you only get help for a year but its better than nothing at all in my eyes!

I would say if your household earnings are around 20-30k its worth applying - worse they can say is no.

We got this from Kiddicare - DH put the wardrobe together today, I love it because it has shelves and 2 rails. He put the changing table/dresser together last weekend, so just the cot to go now.

I really like this set and for the price I really want to get it, it's just a real shame you can't seem to buy those baskets at kiddicare anymore, they're always out of stock or unavailable.

If anyone has been able to find the baskets anywhere else let me know!!!!

I don't know if they even sell them?! I've never found them on their website.

I'm just going to buy my own from homebase/cargo/Argos etc!

I am on the hunt for baskets too so will let you know what I find. Am really pleased with the set although like Claire said, have had to raise a claim for the cadhback with quidco which was annoying.

Thanks Kynthia - that definitely seems the right thing to do.

Just back from my first NCT class. Really enjoyed it and learnt a lot and the group was very friendly. Thought it would be a bit more interactive than it was, but maybe the next sessions will be more so.

Glad you enjoyed it becs. We finished ours this week & we've now got a Facebook group & arranging to meet up with the girls already in a week or so, I really enjoyed the course, I learnt lots but DH learnt tons! I feel a lot better in terms of what he knows now - it was good to have a proper teacher educating him & not just me banging on about random stuff every now & again! And to know that things like when to go to the hospital or knowledge of anything really - I don't feel fully responsible for it like I did before because he had no idea about most stuff so I feel like the pressure is off and he can actually help
Plus he's now learnt to massage my back without hurting me (he likes doing it really hard!) and that was not something I wanted to fight with him about in labour! Lol

Yah they definitely sell them because I have them on my kiddicare baby gift list which I set up a while ago (probably about 3/4 months) - it's just unfortunately I can't link to them because every time you click on the item to find out the details it just says 'sorry we can't find the item you're looking for'...lol.

I'll try and post a screenshot of my gift list with the baskets on if i can!

Becsxxx thanks yes definitely let me know if you find any!! I think ikea do some but I don't know if they would be the right size or anything.

Alternatively I was looking at this one:
