  • Fran-o - hope your labour progresses soon. I know what it's like. Mine seem to last for days at home and it rubbish when the pain stops you from sleeping. :(

Although this time I will be in hospital for planned section. I'm going today for 36 wk growth scan after which we'll 'discuss' induction v section, which means means they will most probs try to put me off having a section and I'll really need to stand my ground. My hospital has a lower than average section rate but higher than average forceps deliveries hmmm  we'll see how big my little one is. I feel like I'm at full term size already! So that's another thing, what if he comes before my planned section date? Hopefully they would still do a section. :o

    Morning.

Just back from my 32 week appointment and been told I've to get a 36 week scan after all. I was originally told that as I was supposed to see consultant as my bmi is over but then consultant decided she didn't want to see me ( said I'm not high risk) I then assumed that meant no 36 week scan but my mw told me today I'll still get one and the hospital should send me a letter.

Anyone who has had one, what are they looking for at that stage or is it just to size the baby ?

Morning and hello newbies to the thread :)

Two weeks of work and then mat leave - phew. I'm sat here with paint splatters still on me from yesterday when I helped DH paint DS's room. We are now on countdown to get it finished before baby arrives.

Re-read what I wrote on Saturday and aren't I a contradiction! :rotfl: Saying that I'd just bought a pretty dress for baby and then advising another to buy as little as possible! In my defense it's much harder this time not buying 'things' as we know its a girl and we already have essentials from DS.

If I remember correctly last time I got measured for my nursing bra at 36 weeks (as recommended at the time) and it was fine. I only bought 2 and never got remeasured as I have to go to Oxford for Bravisimo. I just can't get on with Debs or M&S bras.

I'm refusing foreceps faithhope although I assume that if you're having a planned section and baby arrives early that they will still do it as long as you're not too progressed.

Who knows what will actually happen on the day _pale_ As the due date gets closer I can't help worrying which is pointless.

I'm on my first day of maternity leave and I'm feeling daunted. I was really looking forward to finishing my stressful job and long commute but now I'm looking at the weeks ahead and worried about how I'm going to fill them. What do you ladies do to not feel lonely or bored? I'm not sure that my NCT ladies will be much help as I'm the last due date in the group and two are having their babies early this week.

Vicky, sorry you've got back pains. :( Just keeping heat on it and sitting comfortably is pretty much all you can do but the physio will give you some little exercises to do that may help. :)

Clothes-wise we've got quite a lot of newborn babygrows since we'd bought a few then our friends gave us a bag full but we've also got loads of 0-3. Packed both sizes in little dude's hospital bag just in case. :) Not got any tiny baby stuff but if we need it, we'll send people out to pick some things up.

OH is going to be my only birth partner. I'll let Mum and MIL know when we go into hospital but will be asking them to stay at home. If I feel like I need my Mum, she's only 20 minutes away. Decided to be strict with everyone about what I want and not stress too much. :)

Really hope things get moving quickly for you Fran. :)

Nothing really happening here, woke up with the period pain feeling and loads of discharge but nothing else... TV/Films really need to show the real side of labour- it's long, off and on and boring! :p

I've got a week to go but really think that baby's going to go overdue. Just can't see him coming at any time soon so just going to take the pains with a pinch of salt. Every time I tell someone he's due on the 10th they say 'Oooh, could be a Valentine's baby!' and I go 'Urgh, I hope not!'... which means he's going to come on V-Day! :p

Not overly bothered about baby coming too soon anyway as I've got a cold, would rather not be all snotty and congested whilst trying to recover from birth and look after a tiny new person! :o

    Welcome new ladies!

Con- a friend told me to pack a couple of flannels in the hospital bag, she said her DH kept running them under the cold tap then putting them on her forehead/back of her neck to cool her down. Sounded like a good idea so I've packed some! :) Another friend told me to pack juice cartons since the nurses only seemed to want to offer her cups of tea which was the last thing she wanted to drink! :)

I got my nursing bras from Jojo Maman Bebe (but they're Emma Jane ones, think you can get them on Amazon!) and measured the same cup size but a bigger back, there's room for growth inside too as the lady made me check that I could fit a fist in there! They're really soft and comfy and were only £12 each! :)

ETA: Kynthia, don't worry too much about being bored! Make sure you have plans for a few days but don't overdo it, you'll get too tired otherwise! :)

The best thing I packed in my mat bag first time around was a juice box with a bendy straw. When I was drugged-out on gas and air / pethidine, my husband could use it to give me sips of water (the G&A made my mouth very dry).

Also a book for OH to read, and some small snacks for the first part of labour (OH got very hungry later on, and whilst I kept being offered food, he wasn't. So this time he's going to go and find himself a couple of sandwiches to stock-pile for the later stages!).

I would sleep and read and laze if I got the chance :D Otherwise how about researching the groups in your area - you can even visit them to see what you think. Such as the library story time, the local breastfeeding group (if you're going to bf of course!) and the children center groups.

You could also contact the NCT ladies and suggest meeting every Friday for coffee and see who comes. The meet-ups that our group had were a lifesaver for me, didn't matter if there were only two of us or the whole group.

Otherwise its cleaning and cooking 'ready meals' for the freezer. :)

    well done Birdie! :T

I'm having a right faff with nursing bras... I don't really want to buy any grand new because they're so expensive (in my size, wish the cheapo Aldi ones went bigger!!!)

I'm a 34h normally and although all the cups in my old bras fit the backs won't fasten. I ended up buying a couple of M&S bras on eBay in a 36H thinking a bigger back band would suffice however when they arrived they wouldn't go anywhere near me, even less so than my existing ones.
I've never liked M&S bras so not sure why I bought them really but I thought they might be okay!
Now I've just no idea what size I should get!!

You probably need to get measured. Before pregnancy I was a 34E. These became really tight and when I got remeasured she had me try on a 36D and they fit perfectly. It is a combination of the size of the back as well as the cup size. When you are measured for pregnancy bra they will make sure that the back fastens on the tightest hook so that they will last a bit longer and grow with you. You could get measured by someone then come home and search online for a cheaper bra. Might be a more affordable way of doing it xx

Just finished the last coat of gloss paint so the painting is finally done! DH constructed the dresser last night so tomorrow we can get all the painting rubbish out of the room and put it up there.

I've got work this afternoon but I'm so tired think in gonna have a nap now! I didn't sleep too badly last night I just seem to get tired really easily now.

Squirrel I have in a 40H a black and a white maternity bra that I got from debenhams- if you don't mind second hand and think they might fit, pm me your address and I'll send them to you.

For those packing hospital bags- asda have full white cotton briefs in packs of 5 for £2.75, I took two packs to hospital and threw them away if they got leaked on and I got full briefs in case of a c-section, normal pants would have rubbed on the incision

Good luck to those in early labour x x

Thanks for this TL, very kind of you. I was going to PM however after reading a few more comments I think I might wait til I'm 37 weeks and then go and get measured. And I didn't really think about going down in size once bump starts to go! If baby comes before I have a suitable nursing bra then so be it! I'll be t home anyway so ill just whip my bra right off!!! :)
