  • It sounds like we might have some little ones making their appearances very very soon. Good luck Fran, Birdie and Faerie. I hope you get to meet your little ones very soon xx

In terms of telling people about me going to labour I think we are going to not tell anyone about me going into early labour at all. This isn't so much for my parents as they will give us the space we need but my in-laws will immediately be all over us and posting it straight onto Facebook etc. It's way more stress than I want or need. When it comes to the time of going into hospital we will then tell my parents as they will need to look after the dog for however long we are away. I don't mind them knowing as I know they will not descend on us at the hospital, unlike my in-laws. I see that time as mine and my husbands time to get to know our little girl. I just hope people don't get too upset over the no hospital visit rule.

For birthing partners I am just having my husband. He is very able to keep me calm and in control and I trust him entirely. I am very close to my mum but I think having discussed it with him he would perhaps feel a little pushed out as I do have a very close relationship with her. Also she has a habit of overly worrying about things and doesn't hide it very well. Not necessarily the best combination with my already panicky self lol.

Mrshappy - I completely understand your fear. I think for the month of April and May I am going to be wanting to know my husbands every movement just to make sure I know he is within easy reach. He is certainly not allowed to go on any meetings to London lol.

AFM, like the last couple of nights, tonight I am sitting with a hot water bottle stuck to my back because I have such painful back ache. Even sitting on the sofa hurts it. I also tend to get shooting pains down the back of my legs. Does anyone else get this? Is there anything else I can do about it apart from sitting with with a hot water bottle on my back? Luckily we have a midwife appointment this week so will be able to ask her about it.

yeah I dont think Id want my 17 year old son delivering my baby :rotfl: however if worst comes to worst he might be great and surprise you?!? Sounds like its more likely your mum could be there though!

the wee dude would probably be more use than my mum to be honest-she would flap too much! I wonder if the cat can be trained to phone for help? Jeeso, I can see what way my already bizarre dreams are going to go tonight! :D
  • Oh I also wanted to ask what sizes you were buying baby clothes in. I was thinking of just getting a few items in one size and then the next size up. I'm just not sure whether to buy newborn and then 0-3 or 0-3 and 3-6months. I'm not really sure what to do for the best. x

Evening everyone :) I've had a lovely day :D My friend organised a little get together with cake to celebrate bump and we all lost track of time chatting away.

Then we went to the baby market and I got a few beautiful dresses and toys for DS, not spending over £1 for any one item which I was chuffed about :)

And dinner of cauliflower curry was a success too so a lovely day in all. :)

Birth Partners: DH will be with me, he works 40mins away but it wasn't a problem last time. Mum will be on call if there's any complications etc - she's my reserve :)

With DS I'd sent DH to work thinking I just had indigestion *rolls eyes* and Mum happened to pop round for a coffee before he arrived back home to find me having contractions! And we had meant to keep it quiet too.
There's no choice this time though as DS will have to go to the in-laws and I can't have them know before Mum, although I wish I could keep it quiet as she's going to worry herself silly.

VickyVics, I'd suggest just buying the minimum newborn clothes now and seeing what you get given/bought/offered. After all if there's a supermarket near you your DH can get emergency supplies whenever you need them plus people tend to go crazy buying gifts for first baby!

I have lots of newborn babygros but not any newborn actual outfits, mainly cos we are team yellow though so didn't like much of the neutral outfits.

Sis in law said that from her experience most people will buy gifts in 0-3 or 3-6 months. She said she will go to the local shops near the hospital and get a pink/blue outfit in newborn for baby to come home in though :) ( next to hosp we have Matalan open til 8pm and a 24 hour asda/tesco so she should manage it)

On my to do list this coming week is wash the dog ( at local dogwash place) and have the car mini valeted. Not sure if this is nesting? I am starting to just want the house sorted but there is so much binbags I need to take to the dump !! We opened up loft room again which is why there are a lot as throwing out lots of un needed clutter to make room for baby things !!

Ive bought one tiny newborn set i.e sleep suit/hat/mittens etc, some newborn sleep suits, and then some 0-3 month sleep suits so we should be covered for any size! And some 0-1 month baby vests.

Ive also bought a few bigger bits for next winter in the gap sale but they were outfits/coat etc.

My type of nesting is cleaning con1888! Normally as long as everything is tidy I just do the basics but I've started cleaning everything! The doors, skirting, windows, every piece of furniture - I've yet to clean behind the cooker but that will come no doubt! :)

On looking at my newborn clothes they are all babygrows with the exception of 4 outfits (no socks, shoes or silly hand mitts) Even the box of 3-6mnths are more babygrows than proper clothes/outfits! (all stuff I had already brought down from the loft) I like my baby to look like a baby as long as possible :)

DS surprises me by seeming so grown up at times and he's not even 3 yet! Who knew that they start learning the days of the week already!

I love babies in babygros, always have. They just look so cuddly and comfortable in them. I really don't like babies in jeans ( each to their own though). Have told all my family friends no denim please, anything else is fine.
  • Saying hi here - I'm due 14th May, with my second son. OH and I have an elder son, who is 8. OH is out tonight at a mate's housewarming, and DS is tucked up in bed and sound asleep - I'll be joining him shortly (in my own bed, though).

I like babies in babygros, too - and they stay put, whereas trousers and so forth don't. Babies don't really have waists, I think that's the problem there! And DS (now 8) looked so sweet in a babygro anyway (-: DS didn't wear trousers much until he was about 5 or 6 anyway, he didn't like them, they fell down. He mostly wore dungarees, which he preferred.

When DS was born, I had OH, my mother and one of my best mates there in a rota - I was in labour for ages, so they took shifts! My mother's a great person to have though in those circumstances, she's all calm and calming, and unlike OH and mate, she'd done it herself 4 times and lived to tell the tale, which was also reassuring in itself. When DS actually emerged, though, only OH was there, as I eventually had a c-section, and only one person allowed in. My mother and mate waited outside and saw us both shortly afterwards.

This time, my mother's going to come and stay in our place, so that someone's around for DS. Babies don't seem to be both conveniently during school hours, and it'll be good for DS to be at home with someone very familiar, I think.

We've bought some vests and babygrows in newborn and 0-3 months, but tried to buy basics or sale items as we have so much else to buy and are assuming we'll get outfits as gifts. I've also been worried about spending a lot on newborn sized items when baby might grow out of them very quickly.

However I went to a nearly new sale today (not NCT) and got loads of bibs (10p each), newborn babygrows in fab condition (£1.50 for the good ones), as well as booties, socks and mittens all for less than a pound each. As these are so cheap it won't matter if baby is born too long/tall for them. We also picked up hooded towels, a yellow blanket, a couple of hats and a travel stairgate (£4 bargain). There were loads of car seats, baby gyms, baths, clothes, books and toys there so I recommend going to one if you get the chance, as this was only £2 entry. :T I had to stop myself buying a John Lewis travel cot for £15 as we won't need it for ages. It was £20 but towards the end of the 2 hours it was reduced. So it seems everyone tries to get there for opening to get the best stuff, but it's worth a look round nearer the end as the sellers slash the prices as they don't want to take it all home. :rotfl:
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!
