My plan is to have hubby as my birthing partner, but I have a fear of going into labour and not being able to get a hold of him, and only having my 17 year old around  I know I am probably being a bit bonkers about it, as hubby only works 10 minutes away from home, but the thought of that really freaks me out!

I don't know what to do reg our parents. I am pretty close to both sets and I speak to mine every day.. they are also only 10 mins away. I think I'll want to tell my mum when I head to hosp but then feel it's only fair to tell OH's too.

I actually thought about having my mum in with me as a birthing partner but think I have decided against it. OH is very laid back and I was worrying he would be TOO laid back and not helpful enough but the more I think of it I might need him and him only to balance me out as I'm the total opposite from him.

He is definately being my birthing partner though but our hospital does allow two if wanted.

Who are most of you having as birthing partners ?

I still have a slight worry about that about my DH but since doing NCT he is much better informed and I feel a lot better about it. He hardly knew anything before other than what hed seen on OBEM etc but now he knows all about the types of pain relief, and types of massage and relaxation in birth, interventions, c-sections and all sorts and I feel like he knows what I want and is better prepared now to speak for me if needed.

If I got into a panic I guess I might want my mum waiting in the waiting room or something but I dont think Id want her in the room and she doesnt fancy being in there either.

I think we'd tell them when were on the way to the hospital and they can drive in later as its only 15 mins away. I dont really want them sitting there for hours seems pointless. DHs dad lives abroad and his mum 6 hours away so dont have to worry about that luckily!

That's the other thing, OH is hard to get a hold of, don't get me wrong he isn't often out (other than at work) but his mobile is often out of charge and he doesn't always answer the home phone. Have told him from now on he is in 'training' and needs to keep his mobile close by and in POWER !!

I guess if I do decide I want my mum they only live about an 8min drive from hospital so could come up. OHs parents live the same distance, we all live in a kind of triangle of the local villages.

If I was to go into labour whilst he was at work though that could be a slight probem, his work is about a 40 min drive away but he doesn't drive and its around 1hour30 in total with public travel. My dad actually works in the same town as OH though and he does drive so think I will maybe say to my dad that if things do happen fast could he get OH and bring him to me... I know things usually take time but there have been a lot of quick births on here and I will feel better knowing he will be with me within 40 mins rather than a few hours !

Actually, now I have had a minute to think rationally, the teenager would probably phone my mum and dad as they live 5 minutes away and let them take over, and labour is hardly likely to be so fast that he would have to deliver his sister, I am clearly going slowly insane and getting my knickers in a twist over ridiculous scenarios............

I've bought OH an in car charger and an extra mains charger so he can keep topping his charge up for this very reason! Just noticed you said he doesn't drive, but could charge his phone at work with the spare mains so it's fully charged before he leaves. The spare charger only cost ~£2 on ebay.

I got my 3rd Emmas diary pack from Argos today. Its got 8 Aldi nappies in it plus 2 small packs of wipes, so definitely worth getting. And some Metanium cream.

7th!?!?!? How on earth did that happen?!?!?!?

I'm just having hubby with me... Mum and I are too similar, both quite highly strung, so would fall out!!!

He's only ever 20 mins from home at work, and then it's 15 mins to hospital from home.

I collected our pram today and sent it to Mum's with her. It's the uppababy vista in taylor indigo...it's LUSH! I was so worried about the colour, as I ordered it from a sample, and we're team yellow, so I thought it could be too boy-ish, but it's not at all, it's really stylish and elegant looking. Yay!

We now have the car seat (cabrio-fix) in the conservatory, the isofix base in my car and another isofix base ready to go in hubby's car. Hopsital bags are all packed... I think we're ready if baby chooses to come sooner rather than later! :)

He works in the shipyards so don't think he can charge it there. It's not from overuse that it runs out though he just forgets to do it at night so I've been making sure he is charging it each night before going to sleep.
