Congrats firefly!
Con, how about a Prince Lullaby Slumber bear? We used the white noise machine pretty much every night for 2 years with DD1.
Alternatively some Lamaze toys - a pram toy or a toy to clip onto the car seat?Mortgage when started: £330,995

Congrats Firefly, hope you and baby are recovering well
Con, sounds like you have lots prepared already, a few ideas, depending on budget: a favourite children's book or series of books, a baby sleeping bag (you could ask for the 6months plus size if you have first size already), baby blankets (a gift one might be more luxurious than one you bought yourself!), buggy or bath toys for when baby is a bit older, or clothes in a specific size?
A lazy weekend ahead for me, housework and resting. Going to cook a big batch of mince today so we'll have frozen chilli/ bolognese ready in the freezer. What other batch cooking have people done or planned to do? Need some inspiration!fran-o0 -
Thanks for all the replies about nappies. I think we have enough for now. We have loads of supermarkets near us so I'll just send dh when we need more.
Congratulations firefly!
Good luck bz, hope things pick up for you soon and you're getting enough rest.
I had an awful day at work yesterday. I've been struggling with back ache quite high up, have seen a physio but she gave me 2 stretches to do and that was all. I had a bra fitting yesterday and have gone up a fair few sizes. I wore the new bra yesterday and my back was worse than normal. I think I need to get a bra extender - thanks to whoever mentioned them recently! Anyway, I was exhausted when I got home and even though I had a fairly good night's sleep I still feel exhausted today. But we have to tidy up as we have our first viewing on our flat today!
I may treat myself with spending time in the nursery folding tiny baby clothes later!0 -

If you have a slow cooker (if you don't I think they're wonderful and essential!) - pretty much anything you can toss into one of those in the morning and switch on! Just don't freeze potatoes, they can turn brown and squishy.
For example, next month I'll be doubling all of my recipes to start getting some things into the freezer. Salsa chicken is a favourite (chicken breasts into the slow cooker with a jar/container of salsa over them on high until they're done and shredable, served with whatever you'd have for tacos/burritos), fajitas, philly cheesesteak (great for beef roast leftovers - peppers, onions, mushrooms - if wanted - with strips of beef, a splash of worcestershire sauce and a bit of beef broth, cook until beef nearly shreds and serve on sandwiches with cheese), cottage pie, shepherds pie, chicken pot pie (I make mine with a pour on topping instead of a crust - just freeze the bottom bit and make the pour on topping fresh), Sante fe style rice and beans, and fish pie. That's what I have for next month that can be made in advance, but for quick and easy on the day dinners, I have toad in the hole (with mash and green beans), curry with rice, chilli mac, and bean burger.
Bean burger - 3/4 pound mince (cooked) + 2 cans baked beans + splash of worcestershire sauce
Chilli mac - Recipe from here (it's in US measurements) - She has a ton of other recipes like this, we just like the chilli mac the best! Also, feel free to use less mince than is called for, we usually only use 1/2-3/4 pound mince per recipe instead of a full pound.
Don't forget that if you freeze something in a glass pan or dish, let it thaw completely and put it into a COLD oven, otherwise it's shatter city!!!
Topping for chicken pot pie - 1 1/2 cups (12 oz by volume) self raising flour + 1 1/2 cups (12 oz by volume) milk with a splash of lemon juice (or buttermilk) + 2 tbsp melted butter + dash of onion granules + dash of pepper - Pour over the top of the chicken pot pie right before it goes into the oven. DH says that the crust is his favourite part of the pot pie! Also, you can use any meat in a pot pie, doesn't need to be chicken. I've used pork and lamb before and they both worked really well.
The 365 days of slow cooking website has lots of slow cooker recipes as well, and I use some of them on a regular basis. You can freeze most of the recipes in a medium sized zip top bag (freeze flat for more room!), then just either thaw over night and dump into the slow cooker, or just dump into the slow cooker the next morning frozen, depending on the recipe. Website here.
Also, pinterest is a wonderful source for finding recipes and info on freezer cooking!
I love cooking, although I haven't really felt like doing much lately, and I'm working on our menu/budget for February today. Let me know if you want any of the recipes I've found! I'll try to give credit where credit is due, but some I have lost the source for, since I write them in my recipe books.
Hope that helps!0 -
Morning ladies,
Congratulations firefly xxxx
Fed up today and nothing is shifting my mood. DH doesn't help, esp as he is going on and on about losing weight and eating healthy.....do I care...right now, no. If he wants to diet and Lose weight that's fine with me, just don't go on about it! (New year health kick) can't wait till he goes to running club at 2pm.
He also wants to go out tonight to a really nice restaurant/bar not far from us. Last night I was all for it, today, nope. It's my birthday in a few weeks so it's an early birthday treat just in case little man has any ideas about coming early. Also this place has wooden chairs....and after sitting on a wooden chair at the doctors the other day for an hour, I will have a numb bum all evening. Might see if I can find a small cushion. Menu looks lovely and already chosen what I want!!! I am sure I will have a lovely time laterjust need to change my mood.
Mmm, not sure what shoes I will wear tonight, swollen feet, even my slippers don't fit anymore :rotfl:
Sorry to bring the thread down, just having one of those days.

Thank everyone for all the suggestions, have asked for a playmat/baby gym. I do have a second hand one but it's not interactive. I told them to pick any out of Argos as I don't know their budget and don't want to ask but his friend linked me theost expensive one ( it's a mamas and papas) and asked if that ones okay and I said yep
I'm really quite overwhelmed by everyone's kindness, been writing down what we've been bought and when baby is here I think I'll print some photo thank you cards for them all. The guys might not be too fussed but will tell OH to get them all a pint too or something lol!!
Having a nice bath then going to a football game ! Not been to one since I started showing, hope I can fit through the turnstile lol!!!!0
